Couldn't agree anymore. I was just stunned how passive he was. Even Bill Worrell was like, why not ride the momentum and finish that play strong with a 3 on 1? Makes no sense to pull it back out unless you're scared of your ability to finish a play. Battier messed up so bad that game.
I don't get it either. They can pull stats till their blue in the face, but I can't get down with it. If you just go down the list of best scorers to ever play the game and none were just 3pt shooters. Hell, even bird was a midrange/post up guy. Trevor needs to get back to filling the wing on breaks also and cutting down on the 3's. Brooks need to also get into attack mode mid range and his fg% and overral game would go sky high. I hate the transition 3 with a passion.
Yeah his pullup mid range jumper is money and I'm confused at times why he doesn't utilize them more in his game. I hope it's not because DM & RA told him to shoot all those 3s.
Not saying you are wrong, but are you sure it's wise to compare our middle of the pack guys to arguably top 2 shooting guards of all-time? When T-Mac was here shooting those long 2's he took a lot of flak from fans for it even if his percentage from there (low 40's IIRC) was quite good actually, (sometimes even better than Kobe). There are times (and players) when the pull-up 3 in the break is vastly better option the anything else. See Jon Barry (2004-2005) for example. Guy with a limited finishing ability due to lost athleticism and diminishing off the dribble skills.
When you're 6'8 with long arms like battier, its not about dunking over someone, its more about just attacking and 9 times out of ten, the refs will call a foul or the defensive player ole' at the rim. Now if dream or another great shotblockler was at the rim, i can understan, but c'mon. Its called playing scared and taking the easiest path of least resistence.
I bet you anything Shane will be watching tape on that play over and over again. Shane played terrible down the stretch last night, but it was just one game. Not to mention, he was being asked to guard Rip and Prince the whole night all the while playing heavy extended minutes without Ariza taking some of the pressure off of him. Shane is certainly not a choke artist. How many times have you seen him hit big 3s when we needed them the most? Calm down~~
I'd always felt T-Mac was more efficient taking one dribble and pulling up a long 2 instead of jacking up 3's. And about the bolded in your post I disagree. You never take a 3 if it's a 2 on 1 possession. Imo come playoffs time teams tend to play physical and it can take rhythm out of an even really good shooter and you can't rely on their perimeter shooting in those games. You can always rely on an athletic guy with some handles to attack the rim in fastbreaks though. I agree some guys just don't have it to go for a lay-up or a dunk but we have wing players capable of doing that. The coach should just play them more and cut down on Shane's minutes. The organization can just trade Shane in the offseason or bench him I don't care. I want Trevor start along with Kevin. The Lakers won the championship in 2009 with Trevor playing minutes which belonged to Sasha the year before.
I've always wondered myself why MJ shoots around 50% in his career and Kobe shoots around 45% in his career. It must be because MJ runs the floor much more and finishes around the rim better. In fact all those teams before 2000 ran the break more often than teams in this league right now. And guess what they didn't slack off on the defensive end either. I don't accept the 'lack of energy on back to backs' excuse. You're a wing player who plays 30 minutes every game. You can and you're expected to run fastbreak properly in spite of how hard you try on defense.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing...if yao is fronted where's our clutch player coming from? But that's what the offseason is for lol.
