    !??!?!?!?!?!?!

WTF are you talking about? "Only since 9/11"...? Jeff, you and I have disagreed about a number of things over the years, but I can't ever recall you making such a flat-out incorrect statement. That's just factually wrong, and if anybody else had posted it, I'd be using a lot less generous language to describe it.

Two, is the GOP also traditionally the "foe" (WTF???) of blacks, too? Or could it be that we just disagree with roughly 90 percent of the black voting populace on the best political agenda for this country?

Foe. Now I've seen it all. The definition(s) of foe:

"A personal enemy; an enemy in war; an adversary; an opponent".

    Wow.

I'm not privy to US intelligence. I'll leave it to the treepeople to spin what the US Joint Chiefs of Staff thought about the aspirin factory.

However, I'm glad that I nailed the conservative spin on the bombing (please insert weirdo conspiracy soundtrack here). Unfortunately, you punted a few questions.

    A. Were the Joint Chiefs of Staff having sex with Monica Lewinsky?
    B. In your understanding of the conspiracy, did Clinton or Kenneth Starr bomb the embassies in Africa, leading to US retaliation?

It's all about the nu-skin line and pyramid schemes.

In 2000, 77 percent of Jewish voters voted for Gore. Traditionally, Jews vote for Democrats over Republicans - by almost a 3 to 1 margin in most cases. Jews largely identify with the Democratic platform. As any Democratic consultant. It's not like it is a big secret.

I would say that there have been plenty of times when the Jewish lobby and the GOP have been on opposite sides of the fence on issues or "adversaries." But, if foe is a word that makes you uncomfortable, how about "the GOP has traditionally been opposed by Jewish Americans?" or "Jews generally vote for Democrats over Republicans?" or "The GOP is not well-represented in the Jewish community?"

I wasn't attacking the GOP. Jews vote for and side with Democrats in most cases. That has traditionally been the case. I don't see the problem with stating that fact. I don't get why this shocks, offends or troubles you. It's old news.

But, if "foe" just gets your goat, insert one of the others in its place. It's all good.

That was pretty perceptive of you to figure out what we meant when we said, "Pretty convenient timing, bombing a target less than a week after admitting he lied under oath about screwing an intern, don't you think?" There were lots of ways to interpret that-- we could have meant, "What with the pennant races and pre-season NFL football games hogging the news"-- but you nailed it.

Of course, I have to ask, you mean that Gaylord Shaw, Clarence Page, and the New York Times are conservatives now?

Thanks for being so gracious. Thank you. Thank you.

Again, you have ignored that simple common sense, cause and effect thing. You know, if you bomb US embassies then a retaliation might occur. Who knew?

Do you guys not deal much with cause and effect in Texas? Is that something that is pushed off until higher level education? Do you guys just sit around in a circle punching blocks and circles into holes, amazed at the magic when one thing works over another? LOL.

To refresh your memory, refer to the 'Updates' section of this page:
    http://www.state.gov/www/regions/africa/kenya_tanzania.html

As you read this page, you might notice an awfully strange set of dates sequentially leading up to US retaliation. However, there is in fact an a) event, that leads to b) responses by the US. Be those responses, commenting on the bombings, mournfulness from the President or the Defense Secretary or the Secretary of State, or an attempt to inflict damages upon Bin Laden... oh yeah, Bin Laden did in fact exist before Bush! But an amazing a) cause has an b) effect. Simply, simply amazing.

Incidentally, I recall listening to NPR's trash news myself during that fiasco. I can see where our retaliation may have come from left field. However, as in all issues of politics... given enough information, the democrats are always right. (kidding)

I don't read the Times, or Gaylord Shaw, or Clarence Page. Since you do, could you summarize their rudimentary opinions on the war in Rwanda or the bombings also in E. Africa vs. our hypersensitivies with what's going on in Israel. That should be educational.

I have often said in many posts in various threads that most of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudi. I don not think that the Saudis are our friends and they should be on the list.

Uh...no. The Middle East has never been a huge export partner. I'd really like to see some numbers to back up your assertion.

If you were really an economist you would know that the governement cannot control the economy. In fact it was a lack of understanding market dynamics and flawed monetary policy that turned a normal recession into the Great Depression.

    LOL.

Now to something we can perhaps agree on. BK, don't you find our obsessiveness with the Middle East a bit strange? I concede that peace there will help the US secure its own borders... but sometimes I wonder if the sides would be more amenable to discussion if they were getting the ever living crap knocked out of them.

Then again, the whole thing bores me, and I feel as if somebody should just buy a bunch of land in Montana for the Jews. Montana would instantaneously change the weight of its electoral votes (or vote :)) and A River Runs Through It could be recast with all Jewish characters.

I'm glad you interpreted the tone of my last post. I worried after posting it you'd think I actually felt affronted. If that's a word. It feels like one so I'm using it.

I find the Middle East to be about as interesting as the abortion debate. If I were still inclined to stay up til 5 AM, drinking cheap ber and smoking cigarettes and arguing with friends-- as I did in college-- I bet I'd want to debate the merits of either or both sides endlessly.

As it is, I'm willing to settle for rock-paper-scissors as the end-all, be-all solution over there.

"Ha ha, paper covers rock! Israel out of West Bank!"

I like the Montana suggestion. "Oy vey, dey're biting today! Ah, whadda you know from biting, you schlameel."

Likewise I'm glad that you didn't get annoyed with my sarcasm. I think that you and I both know politics are a complete waste of time. Unfortunately we keep getting sucked into the roles. :D

Definitely. I don't know if its p*rn, flyfishing, beer... or the happy gas they spray around in Utah, but I'm perfectly fine not worrying about the Middle East. Not to be crass... I just don't think that I'm in the critical path.
