Apparently Kevin Garnett is being shopped. The Nets have offered KMart, VanHorn and Kerry Kittles for him. The Mavs are even willing to trade one of their stars for him. Should we be chasing KG as well? http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/story/8207p-7686c.html
repost but i'll reply anyways. logically, trading Kmart, van horn and kittles for garnett is a great deal for the nets. just think of the damage KG can do in the east. but the thing is that after Kidd and KG, there aren't any more offensive or defensive threats that could knock down the lakers or even the mavs in the finals. i'm actually all for the mavs getting garnett. shipping out 2 all-stars and draft picks/chump players would get the wolves interested. then you could shift dirk diggler to the 3 spot and put KG at the 4 spot. cuban can always find another 2 that can put up 12 points a night .
Would you give MoT, Rice, Griffin, Moochie for KG? I am not sure if it works $$-wise but I bet it is close. Ming---------Cato---------Collier KG------------KT Nachbar-----Morris-------Wizard Mobley-------Torres Francis-------Brown------Maddox At that point, I am sure we would use the MCE for someone at the 2/3 and/or 4/5 depending on whether we re-sign any of our own FA's. Would Minnesota do this? They need a PG - Moochie They'll need a 4 that can shoot - MoT They need eventual cap relief - Rice They'll need a prospective stud - Griffin I think the Rockets would. What else would one side or the other need to sweeten their end to make this happen?
We can't get KG without gutting our team in the process. Though KG is an exceptionally talented player, the cost to acquire him is prohibitive.
Many people have said this before and I will say it again. Please give the current lineup a chance to show what they can do first.
KG's contract makes virtually impossible to trade him. To come up with enough cash to send back you have to either 1) include a bunch of crap contracts that Minn doesn't want or 2) give up so much talent that you have none to surround KG with once he gets here. I seriously doubt KG ever gets traded.
B-ball freak:- Keep your hands off our future STAR! Griffin will make his mark in this game and do just more great things as than Garnett!
What Htownhero said. The T'Wolves would probably laugh at NJ's proposed trade offer. What use does any team have with Kitles and Van Horn, and their ridiculous contracts? Kittles and Van Horn are nice 3rd or 4th options, but don't deserve more than 5 mill a year. The T'Wolves aren't the biggest market team around, so when they do spend money, they'd rather spend it on a guy like KG, than 2 role players.
haven't we already been through this a few months ago? Houston would have to include Francis in any deal, period. ain't gonna happen.
OK, this may be farfetched, but...my excuse is it works on REAL GM. HOU sends: Mobley - SG Taylor - PF Rice - SF Cato - C 1st DC in 04 Rights to CHI 1st DC owed to HOU MIN sends: Garnett - PF Szczerbiak - SG MIN gains one young star Mobes, a low-post offensive threat (Mo) with potential, a defensive presence at 5 (I'm really trying hard to justify this), a vet scorer--who if reports are accurate will be ready to fire in Oct and a couple of 1st rd pick they don't have. We gain a second superstar, that can play ay front line position and a solid 2/3 scorer. We loose some quickess at 2, but gain a whole lot at 4. KG provides us a lot of versatility and can work in a rotation w/EG, KT & Boki depending on the opposition. We also get rid of our most expensive multi-yr contracts. We really don't gut our team, but clear out some space for younger guys to play. Of course big risk is relying on our #3 C to back-up Yao. However, KG can probably spot him some minutes. MIN gains some stability, given KG/WS both only have one year left on their contracts. Yes, we also risk signing them next yr, but then if we don't there will be other options (say Duncan). OK, maybe I'm crazed...tell me why it won't work?
well..one possible reason...how do we play KG and Szczerbiak? We may have 5 star players which require the max in a few years (Francis, Ming, Griffin, KG, Szczerbiak).
You guys are absolutely right. It's crazy to talk about trading a proven superstar like Griffin for an over the hill vet like Garnett. Thanks for showing me the light.
It won't work because Minnesota would never be able to justify the trade to the hometown media. Losing one of the top 3 players in the league and another all star for mobley (who IS very talented, but probably a little less valuable than Szerb because of size), 3 decent players, and two future prospects. Yes, it might be a pretty fair trade a few years from now, but they would get killed by the hometown fans and possibly risk the franchise being moved. Garnett is a seat filler, that is one reason why it will take a star player who is also a seat filler to get Garnett away from the T-wolves.
Now I would do that in a heartbeat! We get rid of Cato and Rice, replace Mobley with Sczerbiak, replace Taylor with KG and we get to keep Griffin and Nachbar. Yes we lose the picks, but would we actually need them. I mean, come on: Ming,MCE?, Collier KG, Griffin, Thomas Nachbar, Morris, (Griffin) Sczerbiak, MCE?, Torres Francis, Mooch, (Maddox ?) MCE? Michael Redd would be perfect... But could Collier be a legit backup? Probably not. If a center, who?
