I never said you said River Grande River. I just cut and pasted the whole entry. Fail on you. Rio Grande is not wrong. George Strait says Grand goes it rhymes with fan in his song. And Grande does translate to Grand. Fail again.
Anyone know any good Texas Independence Day jokes? I have to attend a party later tonight. No slavery jokes please.
On the topic of the Rio Grande, I really like Dean Martin's "Houston". Great song. BTW it has nothing to do with y'all's silly argument.
My favorite part of Pee-Wee's Big Adventure <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QltlctqfY4E&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QltlctqfY4E&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> And "THERE'S IS NO BASEMENT IN THE ALAMO!!!" Happy Texas Independence Day everyone! Texan before American anyday
Go Scots! I live a few blocks away from the rival Augies of Augsburg. My band plays at O'Gara's every now and then so drop me a line and I will let you know the next time we are there otherwise if the Rox make it to the playoffs let me know if you're up for catching the game.
Yeah, Mister North Texas, but spelling "Rio Grande" as "Rio Grand" is wrong. If you spell it properly, people will still read it "Rio Grand" (no E). I can't believe you believe I'm a gringo... that's like saying The_Yoyo has no rep...
I've studied Texas history extensively for pure pleasure and certainly slavery had an influence on the early history of Texas, but most Texans who fought for liberty in 1836 were simply folks trying to find their way in a strange, dangerous, and marvelous land. They weren't big land owners, or politicians, or devious plotters of bringing Texas into the United States. It just seems to me that Texas Independence Day should be a day to celebrate Texas. Those other issues are more suited to D&D and a different thread, in my opinion. If I became a bit more verbose than strictly called for, my apologies. I won't apologize to the goofus who made the comment about the President, however. That was entirely out of line.
It's Texas' terquasquicentennial. Happy Independence Day! Random history lesson: The Declaration of Independence was adopted on March 2, 1836, but it wasn't signed until March 3, because the first one written had several errors, and the signers wanted them corrected before signing it.
Ah, it's good to be a state employee. Not the most random day off (that's Civil War Heroes Day), but I'll take it.
