Jason Kidd is an NBA coach....playing on the floor. Why would Jason Kidd take shots away from Dirk, Caron, Jason Terry? He does exactly what his team needs for them to win.
This only happens against the biggest, most physical point guards, typically the same guys that just about every PG struggles to contain. You're taking a handful of instances that stood out to you because of your confirmation bias and assuming incorrectly that they're true for all his matchups. And when you're using defensive +/- to support your point you know you've lost the argument. Incredibly flawed statistic.
OK after we debate on who is a better pg we should remember none of the players you named are on the table. I would like Chris Bosh yes but if it is possible to get another good PF add him to the mix without losing Brooks/Martin we could be instant contenders.
go watch his games against such unstoppable point guards as earl watson, jameer nelson, Darren Collison, Lou Williams, etc... I regularly see back up point guards score against him with little to no trouble. And we haven't even talked about his defensive IQ yet, he has no clue about how to disrupt an offensive set, his only focus is to stop his man from driving on him.
Oh good lord, he has good games and bad games, just like all the guys you mentioned. He has outplayed Billups, CP3, Kidd, Nelson, Nash....all of them at various stages.... And he has been out played by them all at other times. I don't understand why Rocket fans can not embrace a guy who is 20th in the entire league in scoring and has only started like 100 games? He is a borderline all star player, a guy who is getting better and better..... It is staggering the hate a guy who is playing as well as AB is playing is getting. I can only chalk it up to ignorance. DD
my point is that brooks is much more replaceable than a lot of people believe, if we have a chance to trade him for a true "top 5" player in any position, then there should be no hesitation.
The Point is not about how good Brooks is as a PG, but how well Brooks will go with the system next season when Yao comes back. With Yao as a centre, Ariza or Batier as the defensive wings and spot up shooters, Martin as a efficient scoring machine, we do really need a playmaker type of PG, who can run the team and feed others up, and don't forget C-Bud, firing from the outside. It has been already shown that Brooks does not go well with Yao on the court. Yao slows down, but Brooks plays rather depending on his own speed. Lowry plays much better than Brooks on this point. Defence wins the Championships. We can not afford two guards with bad defence on the back court simultaneously except we only play it for fun. We have to discuss players when putting them into our team's system, not just treating them as individual talents. It's true that Brooks is a good scoring PG, and he has not yet reached his ceiling, but his not an integral part of a championship contender for This Rockets due to his style of play, just like Carl, though he is so good but does not have the talent that this Rocket most needed. If there were any chance we could trade him to get Bosh, I would do it in a second, since we are building a Champion.
Top 20 in PPG in the ENTIRE NBA is easily replaceable.... Time to add to my ignore list...sigh. Brooks is great with Yao, he spaces the floor. He was great with Yao in the playoffs with Portland, and he will be great with Yao again. And Yao...By the way, may not be great any more..... Defense wins championships...ROFLMAO...BALANCE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS !!! You can't win a basketball game without scoring.....for reference, see Battier, Trevor and Hayes in the starting lineup.... DD
I totally agree with you. AB and Martin will average around 20, and Yao will be right there with them. It doesnt make sense to me because Scola doesn't demand the ball like Bosh would, and yet Scola is in the 15 & 8 range. To me that's perfect.
Lou Williams 9 points on 12 shots J. Nelson 17 points on 15 shots Earl Watson 10 points on 6 shots Yeah extremely dominating performances Sure, Collison put up big numbers on him, but he has been doing that on everyone since CP3 went down so it's no disgrace... Actually he's done quite well on help defense and his speed allows him to rotate well to double guys up and break plays.
It boggles the mind how people are so willing to give up a guy that is 20ppg in only his 3rd season, and only his 1 and 1/2 starting season. I see a lot of people (china cough cough) worried about big Yao's touches, and whether he will be a focal point of the offense. Hey people....HE WON'T BE !!!!!! Yao will be relegated to that of a SUPER role player, he will no longer be the main focus of the Houston Rockets, he will now be probably the 3rd option....behind Kmart and Brooks. Or at least an equal option..... So, get used to it, ....the change is coming, and guess what......It will be better for the team and for big Yao. DD
I've been added to your ignore list more times than I can remember, yet you keep replying.... Top 20 PPG in the NBA, let's see what names we can dreg up from the past. Glen Robinson, Shareef Abdur Rahim, Jason Richardson, Corey Magette, Mike James, Antoine Walker, Stephon Marbury, Jalen Rose, etc... Many of these characters went from top 20 PPG to obscurity in a very short space of time, points is the easiest thing in the world to replace, we saw that this year with artest, yao and mcgrady gone. Defense on the other hand is much harder to replace.
we lost 60 points this season, with mcgrady, Yao and Artest all going. Yet offensively we are scoring more than last season. Points is the easiest thing in the world to replace.
Ahahaha. Defense is cheap. Go look at what defense-first guys get paid. Go look what people are willing to trade for them. If you really think it's harder (aka more expensive in assets and/or dollars) to replace defense than to replace a high-volume efficient scorer who can create his own shots, then we have nothing else to say to each other because it's obviously pointless to try and communicate with somebody who knows so little about the subject matter.
