How effective would Lowry be playing alongside Yao? Consider some numbers from last season: http://www.82games.com/0809/0809HOUP.HTM With Yao on the floor, Lowry averaged only 2.6 free throw attempts per 40 minutes (293 minutes). In 608 minutes as a Rocket last year, Lowry averaged 4.3 free throw attempts per 40 minutes. Doing the math, that means when Lowry was on the floor without Yao, he averaged 5.8 free throws per 40 minutes (in 315 minutes), which is more in line with what Lowry has done this season. 5.8 versus 2.6 -- big difference. Overall, Lowry averaged 16.1 points per 40 minutes with Yao off the floor, and only 11.9 points per 40 minutes with Yao on the floor.
That is to be expected, and AB I guess would have the same problem playing with Yao. Yao need ball in his hands and he is more efficient than both Lowry and AB in terms of scoring. More shots/FTs for Yao is good for the team, AB/Lowry would have less shots and less impact scoring wise. Since AB can't do the since Lowry does when they both don't score that much, Lowry could just be the better fit once Yao comes back.
Wow, that is pretty startling. Could it also be the players that Lowry was playing with? I mean did he have anyone that would or could run with him? It seems that he is a great guy to get the fast break going......and needs finishers around him, could it be that he had no one to run with during his time with Yao? Clearly Yao is not going to benefit much from playing with Lowry, he doesn't run, and Lowry doesn't space the floor enough to give Yao room. Which is kind of why I have been arguing with the Lowry should start crowd, because it is obvious that they do not mix well together. AB on the other hand can shoot the 3ball making him much more effective with Yao. DD
Slightly less assists than his norm, too. Which means Lowry wasnt exactly feeding Yao all kinds of easier looks. Maybe Lowry passes to Yao better than Brooks. But does Lowry w/Yao's 1 more assist and 2 more rebounds than Brooks make up for the 5 point lead in points Brooks has on him? Does Lowry's better defense over Brooks help the team better overall? Brooks has a better winning % w/Yao. So the w/Yao stuff doesnt really go Lowry's way decidedly. Without Yao is another question. We already know we have Yao for next season. So it looks like Lowry stays that change of pace guy for when its time to rest the starters.
I say trade Brooks or Lowry -- IF the Rockets can pull off the unlikely summer scenario of upgrading to John Wall, Chris Paul, Deron Williams or Derrick Rose. Short of that, let's give this trade business a rest.
No, he is solid but struggles against the quickest guards in the league. I think we all remember how he made McGrady earn his shots in the play-off series against Utah. However, he is getting older, and seems to be getting by on reputation now more than anything. Granted, sometimes its better to have a good rep than be scrappy and new. Fisher is not in the Rondo class, but he is not a sieve like Steve Nash either. And I think I have a pretty solid idea of the concept. I took the impression that the post I responded to was joking about how Brooks took Fisher to school last year. I responded in kind.
Granted Lowry hasn't been able to play along side Yao with Budinger, Ariza, or now Martin. Nor has the team had this much time to get the offense going the way it has been with Yao out and Hayes in the high post. Then again, its inconclusive either for or against Lowry or Brooks, since so much has changed in the team, the offense, and the players in the time Yao has been out. Losing Ron Artest who is an offense disruptor is a big change as well.
It does give you data on how well Lowry and Yao work though, and clearly, as has been said, not as well as with Brooks. DD
trade u man, aroon is few players i think would the basestone for rockets in furture. i thought them was brooks, landry, and budinge.now, landry had gone,so don't let me lose brooks again, pls.
I honestly feel like a lot of us overrated Brooks. There are a plenty of "small" guards in the league nowadays, and they all can score. What irks me about Aaron is that as a PG, when he's not scoring he's not helping us in any way. I mean I'm watching Darren Collison right now absolutely torch Jason Kidd, but he's looking to get teammates involved and he plays awesome D. If the right offer is there in the offseason, we can't hesitate to pull the trigger.
Hey DD, BucMan, LeeBig... What do you think we can Brooks on the off season.... He just doesn't fit and is capabale of learning or incapable of being a pg in this league...
this brooks guy is terrible? Who the hell does he think he is scoring 22 points in the first half? Doesn't he know PGs aren't supposed to score that much, that how many points you put up on the board don't matter? Jeez, lowry is a traditional PG at least. Brooks is a stupid SG in a PG's body I can't wait till we trade this runt. Most of all Yao can't avg a lot of points next to him b.c he will be taking shots away from him. Lets go back to JVG's days of pass it to Yao and be a 500 team forever.
and a guy that plays PG at a size allowing him to be the quickest player in the league.. His speed breaks the defense down alone.
BTW brooks avg since Feb. 1 is 21.9 PPG Martin is up to 22.2 PPG on the season but he also missed like 25-30 games
He is also doing a lot better on his assists, now that he and Martin are connecting I expect those to keep climbing too. 7 tonight in only 30 minutes, and several more great passes...... I am sure it won't sway anyone's opinion, but it should. DD
Brooks assist numbers are misleading but now with another capable scorer they should be around 7-8 a game and i think that is great if he can continue to score the ball also.
I was hoping Budinger could start at some point, but now......with Kmart, let Budinger stay off the bench. I do still believe we should only be playing one of the Battriza combo.....though. DD
