If it was just a ghetto party you might be right, but when the information posted suggested it was a ghetto party connected to BLACK HISTORY month, it definitely is racist. Add the noose to the equation, and I don't think it's plain to see there was some racism involved.
They are doing it to "honor" black history month. They are relating ghetto culture to black people, therefore making it racist.
yes, people are racist and need to be called out for it. doing nothing will just tell people that it's okay to be racist. and being openly racist is just appalling. and to those who talk about "white parties" or "white trash parties". the white parties don't really count now do they? because who is the majority in this country? esp. comparing a party racist against blacks to an office party where you just dress up like normal office workers. to all those thinking this isn't a big deal. this really is a case of, "you wouldn't understand" because you really wouldnt unless you lived as a minority somewhere else. e.g. white people in hawaii africa or asia. universities are breeding grounds for racial segregation. and if there were any asians involved in this (which im sure there were) then they need to take a long hard look at themselves in the mirror. most of them are just trying to become "white". "he aint talkin about me" means that you're just being discriminated against atm. google "glass ceiling" or check racial profiling for asians to top universities.
Who cares how who's in the minority or not? Only white people in Hawaii, Africa, or Asia can be discriminated against? What does that have to do with racism? Do you even know what racism is? By becoming "white," you mean trying to become racist? Oh, and you never told us in the other thread why you hate Jews so much. You just b****ed out on the conversation, like you probably will here too. You are very quickly becoming my least favorite poster. Congrats.
Nothing is technically wrong with that. But you have to be realistic and note that in this large group, those in the minority would often get outvoted on certain issues or not get their views expressed as much. For example, at UT it was rare for the school or student body to promote events geared towards minority cultures. If it weren't for these minority groups then these events would rarely happen. That's just one example.
If you read my posts you would know that i dont hate jewish people. I just said that it was ironic that the only family who petitioned against my family moving into the neighborhood were, as you would put it, "JEWS". white people in america have trouble understanding what it is like being a minority. and until they actually ARE a minority they will never fully understand. I am not saying that all white people are racists, but those throwing that party sure as hell fit the bill. and the asians or whatever other race of people were there participating were probably trying to fit in with the majority of white people there. thus, "trying to be white". ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSpelled out for you now? before attacking another poster, try reading more than one of their posts or what another douche copied and pasted in an attempt to take things out of context. you were one of the few dense enough to believe what he posted.
Please help me find the irony in this, because at this point, I'm just not seeing it. You brought up Jews in the other thread, citing them as an example of white suburban Americans who "wouldn't understand" what it's like to be a minority. Think about that for a second... You went on to imply some long-standing feud between Jews and Koreans, but still have not educated us as to what that might be. That's quite the assuming blanket statement, you got there. Racist is racist, it doesn't matter if you're a minority or not. So when Asians are racist, it's due to the white guy's influence? What, Asians can't think for themselves? I read you loud and clear. Who are you talking about? You seem to blame white people for your own racism. It's a shame.
now you're mixing posts together. It was ironic because one would think that they WOULD understand. given the fact that their ancestors survived genocide as well. similar to the Japanese occupation of Korea. What?? seriously? where are you taking this from? do you hear voices in your head? if you are asian-american then imo it is due partially to the television, movies, and just your environment in general. i don't know if youre asian or not but if you are. then take a few asian-american studies classes at your university. like it or not. america is white majority. many minorities struggle to find an identity. Michael Jackson is an extreme example but if he is still an example. once again, it also depends on your environment. but if you are 1 or 2 minorities in any area then you will take on the characteristics of that majority. and in more ways than one, wish to be that majority race. another example. i have a brazilian friend who is racially german. blonde-hair blue-eyed but still grew up wishing he was dark-skinned and brazilian by blood. he was born and raised there. his mentality is that he is brazilian despite the racism he suffered. this is why an asian-american participating in a ghetto party mocking black history month is not thinking at all like a minority. key term is asian-american. if you really do care so much about what i think then take the time to go back and read all my posts in the other thread and this one. that is, without inserting phantom ideas into my posts. Koreans vs. Jewish? seriously? anti-semitism?? seriously? claiming that Jewish people wouldn't understand what it's like to be discriminated against?? you are totally out there man. i still fail to understand where i am being racist. racism: hatred towards a particular race based solely on their race and having the frame of mind that one race is intrinsically inferior/superior to another. that's what it means to me. this includes racist koreans who talk smack about chinese and japanese. japanese vs. chinese and koreans. this also includes racism towards caucasians. like my german-brazilian friend. or even the local white kid who gets jumped by a group of minorities just because he is white. there's a lot of reasons for the way we think today. e.g. Slavery, Anti-Chinese Act, WWI, WWII etc. lots of things that are being slowly phased out but the mentality still exists. thus you have things like the ghetto party mocking black history month. thanks for turning this thread into an attack on me.
I think people dont want this going to "D&D", like its the worst thing. Trying to keep the thread Hangout compliant. Not bad. Its not like they're not doing anything on campus, just not going directly into enemy territory. Its easy to suggest to someone else what you would do, even if its reasonable. Just some real life difficulties in doing it. Have to set up all kinds of logistics and probabilities and worse case scenarios. When they have parties like that, they're usually secluded miles away from the race they're offending. So black people not on campus might have to go out of their way just for a little scene. Plus when there's alcohol involved, things could get touchy. Also the key bad part of it is the school admin themselves seems ineffective in providing any protection. The people counter-mocking the party would be doing it just for themselves, with no external support besides a pro-diversity chain email. I do think thats a step though, just go over there and start taking pics. Post them on Twitter or Facebook or whatever and make the people look even more stupid to the world. I didnt read the letter fully until now. Whats strange about these things is the level of detail they seem to know about the other race. With me people I dont like, I dont pay attention to. So how do they know so much about the "Shenanays" without watching? And why black people, why not any other race?
Because it will socially cluster anyways; the white kids will run everything, and the blacks and hispanics will feel marginalized and either slack off or quit. Like school, work or every other orgainzation in the history of everything ever.
So you're saying in any organization, whites will automatically take over regardless of the talent, dedication and number of the black and hispanic (or asian, jewish, native americans etc but you don't care about them I'm sure, since they're not even worth mentioning to you) participants? Don't you think you're being...unreasonable here?
To quote Patrice O'Neal, this is my favorite "white trick." Feigning support or faith in hypothetical minority advancement so one can attack the means by which we would practically achieve it. I didn't say whites would take charge regardless of the number. But outside of professional sports rosters (since whites actually run the businesses), or a hippity-hop label, or maybe city government in a majority black community, there aren't a lot of majority-black organizations people non-blacks want to be part of. And "talent and dedication," whatever the holy hell that is, generally gives way to confidence and assertiveness (seen in blacks as attitude) and sociability (black laziness), which is easier to pull off if you're part of the majority. So I still stand by my hypothesis. I didn't mention American Jews because they are overwhemingly white, and richer (and therefore indirectly more empowered) on average than every other ethnic group. Asians are too assimilated and Native Americans are too few to be considered threats or burdens to white america. Blacks and Hispanics are the only minority groups we've fought wars, re-aligned our political parties, and completely re-distributed population and resources over (suburbs).
The history of this country suggests that minority groups (whether race or otherwise) tend to have to organize and get attention to get equal rights and equal treatment, or otherwise have their issues addressed. It shouldn't be surprising because it's human nature for people to focus on things that most directly affect them. So the majority (whether white or some other majority group in a specific situation) are going to focus on the things most relevant to them - which generally is not the rights or needs of some other group.
