When you get in front of the screener, or at least anticipate the screener and position yourself to force the driver to the outside, you give your big extra time to cut off the lane. Scola and Hayes don't block shots, but they are certainly capable of moving into the paint and drawing a charge.
Hey I'm not saying Brooks is a better defender than Lowry. I'm just saying Lowry's defense doesn't compensate for his incompetence on offense. You might find him somewhat effective this season because this uptempo game we're playing allows him to utilize his speed in transition but when the game is significantly and inevitably slowed down in playoffs, the same guys here would cry for Aaron's all around game desperately. Lowry does little in half court set offensively. Rajon Rondo is on a completely different level. He plays the best defense out of these 3 and he can actually create off the dribble in half court set unlike Lowry.
I understand what you're saying, but if you gamble too much, and get too far in front of the screener, then you are allowing your man to cut it back to the middle of the lane, which you are trying to keep him from going to begin with. It comes down to your big being able to buy you jut a few seconds by cutting off Williams initial penetration, or making him take a longer route. DA/Scola did a horrible job of this tonight, which lead to Williams big night of points/assists. This is why you saw our rotations breaking down time after time. Like DD said, I think Lowry is a much better defender than Brooks, but to me, that had little to do with D-Williams breaking down our defense tonight. Also, sometimes you just have to tip your hat when a team shoots 67 percent, but we sure could have done some things better to cut that down a bit.
Seriously you guys tend to overrate subs on this team. Kyle is just like JR Smith and Barbosa, an energy guy who brings sparkle from the bench. He is best suited as Aaron's back-up.
You're talking out of your ass. Nelson is even a worse defender than Brooks and neither Lewis nor Turkoglu is known for their "tenacious D". So tell me how did they beat Cleveland the best defensive team last year and make it to the finals?
Have you ever seen Kyle creates something in half court set? Have you ever seen him knock down jumpers consistently? Which is exactly why he didn't shine in last season's playoffs.
It was Alston never mind. D-Will always feasted on Alston in the old days. Argh!!! A team will never be a contender when you have a PG with below-average defense!!!
I never said they couldn't have big games like that. I still say had Williams looked for his teammates more it could have been 28/15 or something. Its 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. In other words, I don't think he could have done 37 and 13 tonight. He did what he did in the time that was alotted him.
According to 82games.com, Brooks seemed the most effective when playing as a SG and with Lowry on the court. I know some of the sample size might be small, but here it is: Top Five 5-man lineup to give the best winning % 1) Brooks-Lowry-Battier-Ariza-Landry 68% 2) Brooks-Lowry-Budinger-Landry-Andersen 60% 3) Brooks-Lowry-Battier-Landry-Andersen 55.5% 4) Brooks-Lowry-Ariza-Landry-Andersen 52.9% 5) Brooks-Lowry-Ariza-Landry-Scola 52.6% Top Five 5-man lineup give Brooks the best efg 1) Brooks-Lowry-Battier-Landry-Andersen 53.5% 2) Brooks-Lowry-Battier-Ariza-Landry 48.3% 3) Brooks-Ariza-Budinger-Landry-Scola 47.2% 4) Brooks-Lowry-Budinger-Landry-Andersen 47.1% 5) Brooks-Lowry-Budinger-Landry-Scola 46.2% Only once that Lowry isn't on Brooks' most efficient list, so that should tell you something... Now, the legitimate question to ask is: should we put 1.5x SG (Brooks and Martin) in our starting lineup next year or only 1 SG (Brooks or Martin) in our starting lineup?..
BucMan55, my fellow CC poster, Deron could do this every night if he wanted to. he's THAT good. the end.
Aaron is a SG, NOT a PG. We have a traditional centre Yao, and wing spot up shooters like Ariza, Batier, and CBud, so what we REALLY NEED is a TRUE PG, a PLAYMAKER, who can drive the team !!! Obviously,Aaron is NOT that playmaker at all.
bad news for you brooks lovers he will be traded for a stud pf. we arent trading yao or martin, and you cant get a bosh or boozer or amare by using battier and jeffries and picks, kerr will wake up and want brooks or no deal take your pick, 1.brooks/lowry + scola/jeffries 2.lowry/willie warren(11th pick) + bosh/scola everyone will pick option 2 unless you are brooks girlfriend
i take it back , he wont be traded. I dont think Morey has the guts to redue the entire roster with yao coming back.He traded landry because we have scola starting. He will not trade brooks unless he feels Lowry can start on a consistant basis. More than likely he will keep lowry glued to the bench, keep brooks, and trade some picks for an average shot blocking pf like camby.
But But ...... your unrealistic claim that Derek Fisher is a bad defensive PG is baseless and unfounded. Just because he struggled with Brooks, did not make him a bad defensive PG, and obviously you have NO idea of the concept.
