... sign with the Nets this offseason. They clearly are offering the best overall package for him.

    - Owner with a gigantic wallet.
    - His choice of head coach. Seriously, they will sign anyone who's willing.
    - Jay Z is his bud and an owner (though I'm not sure if he was bought out?).
    - He is right across the river.
    - New arena coming up.

That's the money part. Now for the team part:

Brook Lopez (awesome young big man)
Yi Jianlian (5th best starter, entry into Chinese market)
    LEBRON JAMES
Courtney Lee (great young guard, handle defensive duties, score some)
Devin Harris (PG just hitting his prime, young, great experience)

On top of all this, they will have one of the top 4 picks and cap space.

This means they can sign him outright. If Cleveland say no, they can ship that pick for the sign and trade. Other decent assets they can use in a trade: Chris Douglas Roberts, Terrence Williams. If another FA wants to join, they can make that happen as well (throwing in the pick and the starter that will be replaced, eg. throw in Courtney Lee if Wade comes).

That's the whole package. Championship, money, choice of head coach, everything.

Is Madison Square Garden that much of a big deal?

I have to say, I see him staying in Cleveland because it's his team. But if he does leave, he would be silly to turn down New Jersey for New York or Chicago. Those teams don't have the same package to offer.

New York - basically, no one under contract except Eddy Curry. Super risky.
Chicago - Derek Rose, Luol Deng (can't play the 2), Joakim Noah, Taj Gibson.
New Jersey - Devin Harris, Brooke Lopez, Courtney Lee, top 4 pick.

    What are your thoughts?

why play for the nets when you can play at MSG? that's great he's friends with Jay-Z but that won't change, he won't go anywhere. cleveland is his home, he wants a title there IMO. and they'll probably get it this year, with the addition of Jamison. a great trade, just as good as us netting Martin and Dallas getting Butler and Haywood.

    Dallas got the best deal
    Cleveland got the second
and we got the third best (but if our picks and Hill turn out to be something, then obviously this is like the hershel walker deal) with us being the cowgirls.

LA Clippers have a very good chance as well. Has the cap room, and a nice up coming list..
Will have a top 10 pick, Blake Griffen, Eric Gorden, B-Diddy, Kaman, D Jordon.

    You're wrong about New York...

They have Gallinari, Chandler, and maybe a cheap T-Mac.

If LeBron went to New York, a star would follow him... guaranteed.

So it'd be LeBron, a star, Gallinari, Chandler, cheap T-Mac. That could be a nice team.

I have to admit, Brook Lopez & Devin Harris + LeBron and Wade would be freakin monstrous. On the other hand, it's the New Jersey Nets. I mean what does it say for a team that has Lopez and Harris and they're still that bad? If they get the worst record in NBA history, there's 0% chance in LeBron going there. He won't lower himself that far because it puts doubt in his mind at the team's championship guarantee.

As for the other teams, Chicago has Jordan's legacy and New York has the fame. LeBron wants both. His basketball legacy will probably be bigger if he goes with Chicago but in NY, he'll get the maximum amount of attention. Of course, everything is contingent on Cleveland not getting to the finals. And even then, if they get there but don't win, I could still easily see LeBron leaving. He wants as many rings as possible, he doesn't just want one.

if they get the worse record in history, that sets him up more. They have a solid core, they need a coach and a star to fill in the need and that could be the difference to a winning squad. So now imagine the hype lebron gets saying he took the record worst losing team in the nba, and bought them to winning by himself. When they move to the NY Nets in a year or two, hes the king of ny in the nicest new stadium in a perfect market with a willing owner and your practically set in the two most important positions (pg, center) and you have access to the best upcoming market(china) with Yi. It makes the most sense, and if they set the worst record, it makes even more sense because it will be more glorious and savior media headlines for Lebron

You don't have a solid core with only 6 wins on the season. Hell you have no core.

I don't see any way Lebron goes to New Jersey.

I think he will stay with the Cavaliers, but if he does go any where it's to the New York Knicks.

Nets is a team that only looks good on paper. The team right now is a complete mess, and will need much time of tuning and signing for it to even be a good playoff team. Adding lebron would be a good start, but I doubt lebron wants to join a team thats in the middle of mixing.

    I think he'll stay.

I think he is a good guy, so I think if he was leaving he would have given the Cavs a hint so they could sort out their future without him.

If they have moved Heaven and Earth to build him a contender, build this entire team around him, traded for players he liked and he still walks out on them.....it would make him look really bad.

This is a Rockets forum. Why do we care about what Lebron does?

This is NBA dish, where we talk about everything in the NBA that is not specifically about the Rockets.

    Or is it?

I still think he stays in cleveland, but if not, it is NY for sure

C: Brad Miller (Part of MLE)
    PF: Chris Bosh (Max Contract)
    SF: Lebron James (Max Contract)
    SG: Danillo Gallinari (under contract)
PG: TJ Ford (Part of MLE)

a team like that would be possible in new york

Yes, that would be nice, if all you needed was SF's and SG's.

Think about it this way. If he signs outright:

    Brook Lopez
    Yi Jianlin
    Lebron James
    Courtney Lee
    Devin Harris

... and possibly John Wall or..
    ... Evan Turner or..
    ... Demarcus Cousins or ..
... Dwayne Wade (acquired by trading #1 pick plus Courtney Lee) or..
... Chris Bosh (acquired by trading #1 pick plus Yi) or..
... Amare Stoudemire (acquired by trading #1 pick plus whoever)...

    You see?

That team will go as far above the luxury tax as New York is willing to go. Will hire ANY coach (rather than sticking to D'Antoni). Will have the biggest turnaround in wins of ANY team in history probably. PLUS, (and supposedly most important) will have a legit shot at winning the championship for the next 5 years.

There is absolutely no guarantee that Wade or Bosh will give up $30m to follow Lebron James. Knicks do not have the assets to complete a sign and trade, and Miami sure as hell won't help New York. Bosh doesn't put them in the same position.

The Nets are built perfectly for Lebron James. The reason they are losing is because they are just the frame of a machine with the engine yet to be inserted. Once Lebron joins, that team will immediately become the favorite, even over the Lakers.

Scorers from all positions. Swingman defender. Star PG. Star big man. All they need is Lebron. They don't even NEED the second star to join. They just need to deal their pick for depth - and any team losing a big star would love to have that pick to start rebuilding.

Teams under the cap do not have an MLE to use. New York will not have an MLE or a first rounder. In your scenario, Bosh and Lebron both basically gave up $30m each to sign for a New York team which LITERALLY only has two other players (Eddy Curry and Wilson Chandler) on the bench.

This is actually a good place too.

    Kaman/D Jordon
    Griffin
    xxxxx
    Gordon
    BDiddy

Plus a pick. It's in Los Angeles. It has the whole "team could never win until King James the savior came" feel to it. Makes sense too. Would only be worried about the owner being willing to pay. Somehow, I don't believe what he says pubilcly, and I would be worried about going to a team that has been mismanaged for ages.

Maybe I'm in the minority here but I'm really hoping the Cavs win this this year and LBJ becomes convinced to stay in cleveland. LBJ going to either NY, LA or the Nets is bad news for the entire league.

If you look at the Cavs' roster right now, LBJ is the only person holding them up. Old Shaq, Sideshow Bob, Old Z, Mo Williams, none of these can guys can create for themselves and as far as talent goes I have my doubts about an LBJ less Cav team beating the Nets. Yet somehow with LBJ they have the best record in the league. LBJ staying with the Cavs keeps the power balance in check. If he joins any of the other teams who have decent pieces then a six-peat like the Jordan years is very possible.

Beating Kobe from Kobe's backyard. Beating the Lakers as the CLIPPERS. That would be a nice story

    six-peat?

Are you implying that the Bulls at some point won 6 consecutive championships?

    Please explain.
