    33pts but 9-24? 1-6?

OK. encouraging and improving, while martin still has a long way to go.
Even better, I think he totally understands this situation.
    I love this guy.

I can live with 9-24 when it comes with 14-14 ft shooting.

his line is equivalent to 16-31 if you include his FT shooting as 7-7 FG shooting. Not bad for a guy still getting accustomed to our offense.

I think the big things T-mac brought to the team was his playmaking abilities particularly in high pressure situations and his height for his position. Kevin Martin is fairly tall too - but I am not sure he is the playmaker t-mac was. But I do think he'll be a more efficient scorer. We'll have to see how it plays out.

Martin can only improve since he will get into shape running the system here compared to what the Kings had become a stand around watch Evans control the ball with no movement and he is still getting over his hand injury.

I think he drew 6 fouls that earned him trips to the foul line (2 of those free throws were technicals, if I'm not mistaken).

So from a true shooting perspective, his percentage (TS%) was .500. For a Trevor Ariza or Rafer Alston, that's not bad, but league average is about .54, and in recent years Martin has been over .600. So I appreciate him openly saying he wasn't satisfied with his effectiveness.

All those fouls he drew did have other advantages -- getting in the penalty faster, keeping the other team from scoring in transition. Overall, I'm encouraged by this performance.

Hey, Mister Debbie Downer, do you actually watch the games, or just the box scores? I find it very difficult to believe you have been watching the games, based on your posts, with all due respect.

    wut! gay????

is always gonna look good as a knee jerk when you've just beat the spurs

but the key stat there is 14-14 FT. shooters will hit their shots or miss their shots but much of Martin's efficiency comes from his ability to get to the line. I've been posting this since before Houston acquired him and seem to be talking to a wall but even in his "bad" games Martin has been displaying what the Rockets need from him.

He's shown his first step and been averaging 9FTA a game with houston at a 91.7% conversion. Last year he averaged 10.3 FTA a game at SAC.

    For comparison:

    - Lowry, who's universally acclaimed for his ability to draw fouls averages 3.8FTA (in 24 min) and converts at about 80%.

    - This year Kobe averages 7.1 FTA

    - 9 FTA is only 1.3 behind Lebron's 10.3 FTA

    - BUT considering FTM for points, Martin in Houston actually leads Lebron. 8.3 FTM versus 8.0 FTM. Martin averages more points per game off free throw opportunities than James does.

You could say Martin's play in Houston is a small sample a few games. True enough. Looking at his numbers from SAC 08-09 his numbers are even better. 10.3 FTA 9.0 FTM. Last year for the season, Martin was .9 FTA 1.7 FTM more than Lebron and 3.4 FTA 4.1 FTM more than Kobe

Considering how much of Cleveland's 4th quarter strategy is to give the ball to Lebron to drive to the hoop to get free points at the stripe from the refs, Morey's intention for Martin is clear. Obviously Martin cannot convert 3 point plays anywhere close to the rate that Lebron does but at 92% conversion fouling either Martin or Yao are basically a guaranteed 2 points late in games. And Martin has shown he can get to the stripe at a clip that's nothing short of extraordinary

Considering the issues that Houston had closing out games or even playing from ahead in the 4th quarter, next year with Yao + Martin out there it's going to be murder for other teams. They cant foul Yao, they can't foul Martin and Martin can score off double teams and drive from anywhere on the court for contact

I took a quick look at stats from Yahoo sports for Lebron and Kobe's numbers. If I've transcribed any errors someone give me a shout. But the numbers are legit.

    For JCDenton,

Tmac doesn't go to the hoop. He does not draw fouls. 4.5 FTA in 08-09. 1.0 FTA lol (7:35 mpg lol) in 2009.

If Martin settles for long jumpers off the dribble with a defender's hand in his face with 1 minute left in the 4th quarter then yeah you'll see people b****ing about Martin's shooting %.

Nice selective cherry picking of a year he needed microfracture and then the few games he has played getting back into shape. Let's look at what they've done in the playoffs.

MPG FG% 3P% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG
    32.7 0.407 0.316 1.000 1.7 3.3 5.0 0.5 0.5 0.3 0.33 1.83 13.2
    42.2 0.430 0.301 0.756 1.5 5.4 6.9 6.2 1.3 1.1 3.21 2.32 28.5

I'll let you guess who averages 29/7/6 and who is exposed as a scrub when it counts. Hell, Tmac in his first four games coming off microfracture surgery is already posting better numbers and scoring more efficiently (46.4% vs 33.3 %). Face it, Morey got clowned. We traded the two best players in the deal and got a 1-dimensional guy who isn't even good at the only thing he can do. I'm going to criticize K-Brick until he plays up to the level of the players we gave up for him. It's just like the people who hate Scrub Battier because we gave up Rudy Gay to get his offensively incompetent azz.

So you are comparing a very young Kevin Martin who was playing along side Bonzi "Spur Killer" Wells and Ron Artest against the Spurs in a single postseason against a T-Mac who had several post seasons with Orlando and Houston with little to no help outside of Yao?

No thanks, I will help you pack your bags for the Knicks forum though. Oh, and the McGrady in your stats link? That's not what we gave up for Martin. We gave up Landry, and comparing a 2 guard's efficiency to a 6th man power forward isnt apples to apples. The McGrady we gave up is a shell of his former self who doesn't know from one night to the next how long if at all he can play.

Considering the only time Martin has been in the playoffs is his second year in the league, nice selective cherry picking!

Knee Jerk Reaction Thread. I'll wait to see if Martin can do this consistently for the next 10 games.

Darn good post! Twenty five years of watching the Rockets, and I cannot remember one player which had the ability to consistently draw fouls as Martin.

Indeed, the Rockets will be a nightmare if Yao comes back healthy next year.

ps. We got to go big in this draft. Praying for the big fella to get well, but it is high time to draft his replacement.
