Furthermore, the guy has career averages of

    45% FG
    39% 3P
    85% FT

How is this just potential? He's been 7th in the league in scoring the past two seasons.

85% and the guy gets to the line nearly as well as anyone in the league. How is that not a positive when you add Yao?

With Yao won't we be similar? Yao, Martin and Brooks are better offensively. Battier/Ariza will be our version of Prince. We have Lowry of the bench who's better than Lindsey Hunter.

with no money cap space and our free agents, morey will have to turn water into wine to get a 4 but what will he do for back-up 5. ilgauskus just got his contract bought out. martin is soft but i don't see him as a quiter.

exactly. some people just don't understand this. What you have here is a lot of people who are trashing Martin because he's been off for his first couple of games with us this season. They've either forgotten or never knew that this guy is a legit scorer. Something we need desperately.

If someone knows of a better deal than the one Morey got I would LOVE to see it. The guy is coming off an wrist injury and his shot is off. Give it a chance. I'm interested to see what the future holds with Yao returning and a another Morey draft & offseason.

I think K-mart is not a very good defensive player but you can't call the guy SOFT. The guy goes the line a lot so that means he's penetrating and going to the basket; soft players settle for just jumpers. By the way, even though Landry was very good and the rockets will miss him a lot; go back to the game the rockets lost to Utah and just remember how bad Millsap made him look in that game. Millsap fronted Landry and he completely shut the guy down. I think that gave the rockets more of an indicative of what they really get from Landry; a solid player but at the end of the day not an All-Star caliber player like K-mart can be ( with all of the Votes from China Of course ) ;) ..

If you are implying that this thread is stupid then you would be right. If you are implying that because this thread is stupid and that you need not reply intellegently to this thread, then that that is your choice. If you are implying that Rocketbeliever started this thread then you are indeed not intelligent.

    Good point.

Too many knee-jerkers, panty bunchers don't understand that K Mart has an
exceptional ability to get to the line.

Thats why he is a SCORER, and much more than a shooter.

Umm, you can't compare just these shooting percentages since the balance of 2 point shots, 3 point shots, and free throws isn't taken into account. For instance, I'd rather have a guy that only shot 3's and shot them at 40% than a guy that only shot 2's and shot them at 50%. True shooting percentage takes into account the number of field goals and free throws attempted.

If you compare all the best shooting guards on their TRUE SHOOTING PERCENTAGE for the 08-09 season, Kevin Martin ranks very highly. He's #3 of the 13 guards I listed in True Shooting Percentage. And #3 in points per game.

    TS% = PTS / 2 * (FGA + 0.44 * FTA)

    #1
    Ray Allen (08-09): 62.3 TS%, 79 games
    18.2 PTS, 13.2 FGA, 3.2 FTA, 48.0 FG%, 40.9 3P%, 95.2 FT%

#2 (note, I used the 07-08 season since Manu only played 44 games in 08-09)
    Manu Ginobili (07-08): 61.2 TS%, 74 games
    19.5 PTS, 13.3 FGA, 6.0 FTA, 46.0 FG%, 40.1 3P%, 86.0 FT%
    [Manu Ginobili (08-09): 59.2 TS%, 44 games]

    #3
    Kevin Martin (08-09): 60.2 TS%, 51 games
    24.6 PTS, 15.9 FGA, 10.3 FTA, 42.0 FG%, 41.5 3P%, 86.7 FT%
    [Kevin Martin (09-10): 52.5 TS%]

#4 (note, I used the 07-08 season since Ellis only played 25 games in 08-09)
    Monta Ellis (07-08): 58.2 TS%, 81 games
    20.2 PTS, 15.1 FGA, 5.1 FTA, 53.1 FG%, 23.1 3P%, 76.7 FT%
    [Monta Ellis (08-09): 50.3 TS%, 25 games]

    #5
    Dwayne Wade (08-09): 57.4 TS%, 79 games
    30.2 PTS, 22 FGA, 9.8 FTA, 49.1 FG%, 31.7 3P%, 76.5 FT%

    #6
    Jason Terry (08-09): 57.2 TS%, 74 games
    19.6 PTS, 15.8 FGA, 3.0 FTA, 46.3 FG%, 36.6 3P%, 88.0 FT%

    #7
    Brandon Roy (08-09): 56.2 TS%, 78 games
    22.6 PTS, 16.9 FGA, 6.5 FTA, 48.0 FG%, 37.7 3P%, 82.4 FT%

    #8
    Kobe Bryant (08-09): 56.0 TS%, 82 games
    26.8 PTS, 20.9 FGA, 6.9 FTA, 46.7 FG%, 35.1 3P%, 85.6 FT%

    #9
    Andre Iguodala (08-09): 55.9 TS%, 82 games
    18.8 PTS, 14.0 FGA, 6.4 FTA, 47.3 FG%, 30.7 3P%, 72.4 FT%

#10 (used 07-08 season since he was traded in 08-09)
    Jason Richardson (07-08): 55.4 TS%, 82 games
    21.8 PTS, 17.9 FGA, 4.0 FTA, 44.1 FG%, 40.6 3P%, 75.2 FT%

    #11
    Vince Carter (08-09): 54.6 TS%, 80 games
    20.8 PTS, 16.8 FGA, 5.1 FTA, 43.7 FG%, 38.5 3P%, 81.7 FT%

    #12
    OJ Mayo (08-09): 54.1 TS%, 82 games
    18.5 PTS, 15.6 FGA, 3.4 FTA, 43.8 FG%, 38.4 3P%, 87.9 FT%

    #13
    Joe Johnson (08-09): 53.4 TS%, 79 games
    21.4 PTS, 18.0 FGA, 4.6 FTA, 43.7 FG%, 36.0 3P%, 82.6 FT%

And for reference, I put in Trevor's True Shooting Percentage. It's terrible!
    Trevor Ariza (09-10): 47.4 TS%

At least we won tonight, or the Tmac fans would have been out in full force tonight.

Are we really having this conversation?

This guy is weights in at 185, very small frame. He's willingly taking contact from bigs and getting to the line 8+ times each night. What exactly makes him soft?

Your thread title is comparing Tmac to Kevin Martin, but in your first post you compare Kevin Martin with Landry, and not even a mention of Tmac in your first post. so which one is misleading: the thread title of the first post?

Tmac had 9 in less then 3 QUARTERS TONIGHT. had he played in the 4th, i'm sure he would have got 14 or more. he was really getting the wizards into foul trouble.

NO Kevin Martin is not softer than Knee Mac.

T-Mac is that special kinda soft where he's not only physically weak and breaking down. He's been mentally breaking down for years now. It takes a special kind of player to give up on his team and just quit whenever he wants to. If he gets 25 pts in a Knicks game, who cares. They're a garbage team and they all just iso and jack up stupid shots. He'll be out of the league before you know it. He will never have the mental or intestinal fortitude to get back to T-Mac.

Also on the plus side, Kevin Martin can look in one direction with both eyes. An improvement over T-Mac.

    Martin in Houston: 145 min. 41 FTs. 0.29 fts/min
    T-Mac in New York: 115 min. 22 FTs. 0.19 fts/min

Basically, Martin get to the line 50% better than T-Mac in the past 4 games.

If you want to compare the past few years, Martin absolutely DESTROYS T-Mac in this regards. T-Mac hasn't been drawing fouls consistently since his early days on this team.
