Yep, I finally got a .30-30 Winchester 94. The famous lever action that won the West...I don't know why I never did before, but I am so happy that I finally did purchase this firearm to add to my collection. I do a lot of research before I buy (i.e. internet...), and this purchase made sense.

The .30-30 is more popular than all of the other deer cartridges combined. It is a deadly deer and medium game cartridge out to nearly 200 yards...and not too many rifleman can or should shoot farther than that...Many believe the .30-30 is the classic deer cartridge, and still think its the best...

Out of all the rifles I own, this one is the most practical to hunt with in East/South Texas: light recoil, easy carrying, the bullet known to handle brush easily, better ability to fire from a stand than other bolt-action rifles, plus the good, classic looks...

I know a good many of you can't stand firearms and that's o.k., my wife isn't crazy about my firearms collection either, but that doesn't stop me from loving her! :)

In case you are interested in learning about the different cartridges (bullets), what each one can do, the recoil of each caliber, plus other articles,...I strongly recommend www.chuckhawks.com

I've got my dad's old .30-30 that got passed down from my grandfather. It hasn't been fired in years, though, but it definitely is a great looking gun.

    I'm disappointed in you, ROXRAN.

When I read your thread title, I immediately thought of a Sharps. Surely, they killed more buffalo than anything else....and how else was "the west won?"

Here is the pic of the gun, plus info. from the winchester website.......:)

I agree, Sharps was a classic and revolutionary..., however the model 94 is best known as the first smokeless centerfire rifle and played a major role in killing all kinds of western game when it was still a new frontier...The .30-30 bullet has even been known to down Great Brown bears at close range...(I reckon more than one shot)...and I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you want to chance being dead ;) ...

I agree. The West was not considered "won" until we were able to wrestle control away from those damn Bison!!:D
