As a spot up shooter he's proven himself and he's great on D. <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4fqDqY0bPrE&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4fqDqY0bPrE&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
If the guy we want is there after pick three and we offer our current lottery pick plus either 2011 or 2012 (likely to be lottery picks) would you think we could trade up to a top 5 pick?
This statement is false. Really stop reading last years off season scouting reports. I have watched almost every game this season and one of the biggest suprises about Chase is that he CAN defend. One of the reasons the Rockets coaching staff allow him on the floor is because he CAN defend. He is not Ron Artest but his defense is solid... especially for a rookie.
I am talking about this year when he gets crossed, blown by, caught on screens and leave his man pen on the wing. He needs a lot of work.
False, false and false again. Every NBA player gets crossed over from time to time. Chase most definitely does not get crossed over or blown by the way you make it sound. Both Shane Battier and Ron Artest get crossed over. Chase is rarely out of position on defense, he knows how to switch and get back to his man plus he challenges his man on the perimeter. His defense has been one of the best surprises this season. I've watched almost every game this season and Chase is most definitely not an Achilles heal on defense or a liability.
dude, just admit you are wrong. It aint that hard. Chase has the tools and the smarts, and regardless of what some of you think of Battier he is a great teacher. He has been working with Chase since pre-season on his defense. I've seen marked improvement in Budinger's D this year.
QUESTION: Who is rebounding in this line up? Chase? If Yao is at the elbow and your Stretch PF is. . well Stretching the defense Who is under the goal getting rebounds? Rocket River
I didn't say he CAN'T learn how to defend. I'm saying he needs work. Of course he has the tools and yes Battier can teach him but as of now?
It sucks that part of Shane's training will require him to break both of Budinger's legs this offseason so he can start over and also learn toughness. Its for the good though.
Even though we only got to see limited minutes from Hill last night, I'm very excited to see what this kid can do. I saw him take one shot during the game (he missed), but his shot/release looked very natural. I think for the time being, he can be somewhat of a strech for aswell. He's got potential thats for sure.
YEEESSS! I love it. Premature, but this summer has been talked about for such a long time. Hard to believe its so close. Summer 2010: Rockets get Chris Bosh in a Sign & Trade, and TEAM USA WINS THE WORLD CUP AHHHHHHH! USA
The worst defensive team of all time??? No way that team ever wins a ring... Defense wins chapionships...
If that's how you feel, DD, why have you never mentioned it until now? Apart from the bazillion other times, that is.
I addressed that with the last line of my post. HE started out unsure of what to do on rotations and I think the speed of perimeter NBA players caught him off-guard to start, but he has made the adjustment and now does a MUCH better job of staying in front and/or forcing them into where help *should* come from. Am I saying he is in any danger to win All-D team? no. but he is doing much better than the initial scouting report said he would and, like I said before, has made marked improvements so far. Given that he *is* still a rookie(and a second round one to boot) I have no complaints about his defense, and defense is something I pay much attention to.
Chase is gifted player, once he gets more experience i can see him start in nba. i think our line up is fine, only problem i have is brooks, I love brooks as a instant offense guy but as a point guard, he should contriute more. This is why i love lowry, because he maks things for other. As much as i love brooks, but would not hesitate to trade him when the offers such as cp3, deron, and any top nba point guard.
I think it would be foolish to start Budinger next year. Not necessarily because I have no confidence in Chase's D, but because it would leave the Rockets will little to no offense off the bench. If you want to contend, you need to have firepower coming off the bench. It is a better ALLOCATION OF RESOURCES for the Rockets to start Ariza (who has proven to be a quality "fifth starter" and is a better defender than Chase will likely ever become) and to bring Chase off the bench for scoring. If the Rockets just start their five best offensive players, be prepared for a LOT of scoring droughts in the late first/early second quarter and then again in the late third/early fourth quarter of Rockets games next year. Personally, I'd rather have a more balanced attack. I love Chase and want his playing time to increase. But it should be in a key bench role, not as a starter.
