Yeah Right! Lebron wants to be a Billionaire & he's gonna get there by giving away at least 30 million & in this scenario starting @ 11mill (instead of the max) about 60 mill to play in New York? Wow! This guy is smoking SOME POWERFUL CRAP!

I will never understand that argument of endorsements. You are one of the most recognizable athletes in the world. Everyone and anyone that wants a piece of you has tried to give you money to represent their product. How and why does that all of a sudden change if he's in New York? We Are All Witness.....but if you play for the Knicks, We Are All just now taking notice. That's bologna.

That may be true for Bosh, maybe even a littl for Wade, but not for LeBron. If Nike wanted to give him more money to play for anyone, shoudln;t it be for the backyard team? Portland.

The only 3 players NY even has a chance at signing are Bosh, Joe Johnson, and Stoudemire.

Besides that they're lost with millions to spend on scrubs and Rudy Gay.

How did I validate your point? Your point is that Lebron will make more money in NY especially when he teams up with another superstart or two. My point is that, yes, Lebron playing in NY will increase his endorsements but not if other superstars are there.

I disagree if they actually win. They will be getting a ton more media exposure b/c ESPN is in love with all things New York and he will get even more exposure than he does already. Sure Nike isn't going to pay him more, but you better believe that the media would be jamming that Knicks team down our throats and more companies, especially local ones headquartered in NY, will sign him to deals.

My point about other superstars just meant that the Knicks probably wouldn't suck and would get tons of coverage.

You are 100% correct. He's already the best player on the planet and everyone knows it! Whatever high dollar pitch that was out there has probably already been made. People need to stop swallowing all that mysterious big money endorsement B.S.! Besides He may actually win the title THIS YEAR! Without leaving Cleveland!

So Lebron, Wade and Bosh would all have to take contracts starting at $11 million?

No way in hell that is happening.

What's more, and is part of the beauty of the Rockets trade, is that going from fairly bad to really good, really quickly, in the NBA, is virtually impossible. But wait, you say, didn't Boston do it? Yes, as the rare outlier. They did it by already having one of the big three, by having a solid young player to bey the centerpiece of a trade for the second of the trio, and by trading a high high draft pick for the third piece of the trio.

New York has none of those. What they do have is David Lee, who himself is a FA at the end of the season.

So, in their never going to happen best case scenario, you do have a team with those three...AND, nothing else.

Which would certainly be better, and playoff team in the East, but not much more. The team would literally be those three, Curry, Gallinari and Wilson Chandler. They'd have no money, other than veteran minimums, to sign anyone else. They'd have no draft picks before 2014 (their next first round pick they can trade) to entice anyone other team to improve. They wouldn't be able to add any players with exceptions (since they start the offseason under the cap) and they have only 1 decent draft pick over the next three seasons (which itself will be made worse by the Rockets being able to swap for it).

That Knicks team would be ok. The following offseason they would improve, though not a lot. Curry's salary comes off the books, with increases on their big 3, that would have them around $43 million of salary, leaving them some money to sign an average player or two or 1 above average player, and they would have a draft pick, though likely not lottery.

It just doesn't make sense. Players taking massive pay-cuts, and then being subject to much higher taxes. Playing for a team that would be okay, but incredible thin, highly subject to injury concerns and with minimal to no ability to improve drastically.

Well I do think Lebron will get more endorsement money in NY. And even more if he becomes the lead dog for a dynasty team. Imagine if he was the leading player on the team that just won their 6th championship in a row after a 75-7 season.
All of Tiger's money endorsement would now be Lebron's...

Really hope that doesn't happen tho... Ans I do think the chance of that happening is slim, but the point is this would be NY's sales pitch... And they only needs 3 guys to believe it.

I'm not saying he SHOULD go to NY. He should stay in Cleveland...an org that will spend and trade whatever they have to in order to contend.

I was just talking about if he took a lower contract amount, it could be offset by increasing endorsement dollars.

So let me get this right,
Bosh is going to turn down at least $30 million from the Raptors,
D-wade is going to give up at least $30 million(& South Beach)
so LEBRON can get more endorsments in New York?

In the espn article's scenario (starting at $11 million) it'll be more like $50-60 million scarificed by Wade & Bosh over the life of a MAX contract to go to New York for 5 years and turn down their current team's MAX offer for 6 years.

GOOD LUCK WITH THAT! THEIR AGENTS WOULD HAVE A HEART ATTACK TO SUGGEST SUCH A THING! Nevermind the Knicks have no shot at a sign & trade since Morey has depleted their assets. Stop dreaming! The Fantasy endorsement deals have satisfy more than just Lebron they would have to make up Bosh's & Wade's deal also.

Well, I view it as a possibility. People don't understand the power of endorsements in sports. Most of Tiger's money came from endorsements. Jordan made a TON of money from his shoe line, gatorade, etc. I can go on forever about endorsement money. Their agent's wouldn't be THAT upset about leaving 60 mil over 4 or 5 years on the table if they make over 100 mil in a 6 or 7 year span in endorsements. It's all about advertising your brand. Don't just write this off as impossible. Look, I DON'T WANT TO SEE THIS HAPPEN. I am from NY, and I know how disgusting a media lovefest can be. Hell, just look at the Jets last year.

Please expound on what endorsements are waiting in New York for Lebron that he just doesn't have access to now? He's the face of the league already. These "endorsements opportunities" are going to be available to Bosh & D-wade as well as Lebron. This is D-Wade's LAST big money contract! He's 28 years old. He's not leaving ($50 -$60 million ) or any money on the table! Believe it! NBA contracts are guaranteed! Get a DUI (or freakin Cheat on your wife) and your endorsement money could be gone in blink of an eye.

The NBA system isn't designed for the very top guys to change teams (via Free Agency) unless they are signed and traded by their current teams. They just have to leave too much "GUARANTEED" money on the table. Like I said good luck with that.

You just named two of the most endorsed athletes in the history of marketing coupled with that they are often recognized as the best player EVER to play their respective sports.

Out of the 3 Lebron,Wade, and Bosh only Lebron could approach that sort of stratosphere.

Wade and Bosh will get more endorsment money than they do now but nothing is guaranteed at all. Every NY company is going to want LeBron on all their stuff they are going to go to LeBron first and then Wade and then Bosh.

So you have to ask yourself is wade going to leave an extra 40 million (figure 60 from his MAX deal - 20million EXTRA from what he already gets) of guaranteed money on the table?

then will Bosh leave an extra 50 million (60-10 EXTRA) on the table?

all so LeBron can get an extra 100 million in endorsments? I doubt it

I know most of the endorsment figures I am throwing out there is arbitrary but the pecking order will be LeBron, Wade, Bosh in terms of how much money will be thrown at them. If I was a company and was told I have 10 million to throw as endorsement money to an athlete I am going throw all 10 at LeBron if I cant get him then I go to Wade and so forth. LeBron has already said that he wants to be a billionaire athlete so unless its a competing shoe/drink/clothing etc brand thats also asking for an endorsment LeBron is going to ink any unique opportunity thrown at his away. The rest will go to Bosh and Wade.

The NBA contract is GUARANTEED MONEY and its a lot of it.

I can see lebron taking less from the Knicks to play there because HE will more than make up for it in endorsment deals, but the other two guys? It will probably be hard for them to do so.

Well, if Lebron would make merely 95 million through endorsements over the same 6 or 7 just by staying in Cleveland, then yes, the agent would be pissed. Bottom line, the NY crap is just a pipe dream spouted by those dogs in New York who just want their city to be relevant again basketball wise. Lebron's more likely to go to Houston than New York, and he isn't coming here.

So... what endorsement deals did Pau Gasol get out of playing with Kobe?

    What about Odom or Artest?

Even Chuck Hayes probably got more money from Chinese endorsements than Gasol, Artest and Odom.
