While I do think Lowry can run up and down the court and give us energy, I do believe that if he were to start it will begin to fade. That's only my opinion. Lowry hasn't looked like he shot the ball too well and someone on here did mention how they could leave Lowry wide open and double Yao. But the beauty of our team is that we can choose between Brooks and Lowry to compliment with martin or vice-versa when needed. I still think with Brooks shooting, driving, and 3 pointers, that will make Yao's job a whole lot easier not getting pounded every night. We did see this during this season. Our only two scoring options were Brooks and Carl and once the team was able to cut them off. We were just stagnant.
I believe it's doing layups at 52% for the year, 49% for his career. check out his shot chart http://www.nba.com/hotspots/ 365 of his shots are at the basket, pretty much his only red spot. lowry.....very similar except he takes a lower percentage of his shots at the basket and at a lower percentage. if he continues to do that he'll be fine.
there are a couple roles of a pg. The biggest role IMO is to get the ball safely down the court, which ab does as good as the best pg in the league. Any of thr 4 players are capable of getting the ball to Yao. One of the biggest qualities needed for the guards and sf is to be able to hit the open 3 when Yao gets doubled, which lowry cannot. Plus, with Martin and Yao on the court, ab doesn't need to be the next cp3. Either the team doubles Yao or not. If they do, we need shooters out there, if not Yao will make them pay.
Are you drunk? The PG does not often pass the ball into the post. They bring the ball to the centre, and distribute it to the wings. The wings are the ones who initiate the 'entry' pass into the post. Lowry is a better 'passer' than Brooks in that he can pass in the more traditional PG sense (rather than kicks off drives). HOWEVER that isn't what we want with Yao on the court. We want a PG who brings the ball over the halfway line, passes it to the wing, and finds the spacing around the 3pt line to wait for the ball to be kicked out. Lowry's inability to shoot would just mean that his man can collapse on Ming and take the ball away. We're much better served having Lowry come off the bench to drive the ball at the hoop, look to pick up fouls, get to the line, and run the offense with no Ming on the floor. My personal opinion is that a lot of people are upset about having Brooks on the floor at the same time as Ming because it might result in someone else scoring instead of Ming - and they don't like that... odd.
Oh by the way - I forgot to add that the poll is completely useless. 'Who should run PG next year' - aren't we hoping that both Brooks and Lowry 'run PG' next year? Your question should've been something about who runs it with Ming on the court? Or who starts (because we haven't had those polls before)
I can actually see that. People keep saying there are not enough balls to go around. If the tmac/yao era taught us ANYTHING, it taught us that you have to have more than 2 scorers on the floor at the same time. At the end of the day, the rockets would have the same problem they have had over the past 5-6 seasons, they will not be able to put up enough points to win games.
NO walking the ball past half court does NOT make a pg. And it involves more than just throwing the ball to some guy. There is a reason why there's the Nash and CPs and then there's the Brooks and Mo Williams.
CP3 or Rubio. Yes I trust in Morey, he brought us Kevin Martin and lucrative trade pieces ( Jordan Hill, Armstrong, and NY Picks)
I'm going to say Kyle should start and here is why. I think he would be a better fit with Martin and Yao (first team). Our second team (with current roster) has lost it's scoring punch with Landry gone and Budinger inconsistent so far. AB could come off the bench similar to Terry in Dallas. He might not take it well at first but that might also light a fire under him. He would still get his minutes though and the fourth quarter would be whoever has been playing well that night.
I love AB to death, but he is kind of a Cancer to our team. Shoots to much for a point guard. I would go with Kyle. If AB can calm down next year when Yao and Kevin are in the lineup then I can be ok with that, but with the way AB plays now. He is more of a 6 man.
If we get a pure pg that can play d, Im sure we would be better off. Always wanted to emrge Brooks into Lowry
With Yao back, I do believe we need a good shooter while Yao is in the paint. I really like Lowry for running to the paint, drawing fouls, and getting layups but I really do wonder how there will be enough room for all of that.
Wrong. We will not have the same problem when the team only has Tmac/Yao to score. We had 2 great scoerers with Yao/Hayes/Tmac/Battier/Alston, but next season we already have more than 2 scoerers without AB. Yao/Martin are great to real good scoerers, Scola is way better than Hayes at scoring, Ariza is a better scoerer than Battier. There are only so many possesions. For example, if this season there are 53 shots availabe for starting lineup, AB would take 16 shots, Ariza 14, Scola 12,Hayes 5, Battier 6, which is fine. (AB/Scola should take some of Ariza's shots here), but next season once Yao back, what would happen to those 53 shots? consider career scoring efficiency, Yao need 12 shots at least, Martin needs 15 shots, Scola should have 10, Ariza 8 shots should be fine, that only leaves 8 more shots for AB. So what happens on offense? AB needs to score to be effective, but there isn't enough shots for him to score a lot because we have 2 or 3 more efficient scoerers in the lineup already. In other words, he won't be as effective as this year. If we start Lowry, he doesn't need a lot shots to be effective for his all around game, and he can make other starters shoot a little better. The entire team's offense could be better instead of worse. Now come to the defense. That's more or equally important as offense. Our defense would definitely suffer with AB/Martin, maybe one of the worst in NBA. Lowry again can make that better. Now, 2nd unit. We lost Landry, Cbud and Lowry may not be enough to provide the firepower we needed off the bench, replace Lowry with AB, it might be enough. Assuming no big changes in the summer and AB/Lowry improve the same amount, a Yao/Scola/Ariza/Martin/Lowry starting lineup should be better than a Yao/Scola/Ariza/Martin/AB lineup for the team.
Wrong. Scola can score but has not outside jumper and Ariza is a terrible offensive player. At least shane can hit an open 3, Trevor cant hit a shot or drive, he is easily the worst offensive player they have in the lineup. They need as much versatility and shooting from the outside with Yao.
Wrong again. We are talking about scorer. Scola's midrange jumper is quite consistent, that's one of the big reason we beat Portland in playoffs. And Scola has a good post up game too. He's a scorer, 10 times better than Hayes, who misses layups routinely. Ariza may not be as good a 3 point shooter than Battier, but he is a better scorer. Battier can't beat anybody off the dribble and shooting open 3s is his only weapon. Ariza can do a lot more as a 4th or 5th option. Shooting is not everything comes to scoring, otherwise Martin would be a better Scorer than Kobe.
I don't know if someone has already said this but,... The reason Lowry has better +/- stats is because he plays the other team's bench while Brooks plays the starters...
At the end of the day, they need a 3rd guy who can create a shot for himself. Scola, Ariza, and Lowry cannot do that. Brooks makes the defense honest, he can hit the mid-range shot and the outside shot and break down the D. None of those other 3 do any combination of that.
