Thats funny, I recorded the game, and as I was watching I noticed Brooks was dribbling and shooting way to much and this isnt the first game where he totally passes up on a wide open Martin. The job of the point guard is to get other shooters involved FIRST. I'm thinking he feels threatened by our aquisition of a great scoring shooting guard, when his job on the team used to be he was a shooting guard first, point gguard second. He needs to change real fast, or he's on his way to being hated by a lot of fans. He's slowly becoming the next francis or rafer...
Watched AB's post-game Q&A. AB has the look of fear in his eyes that says he knows his time is up, especially after he saw how Landry got traded. Ignoring Martin and committing turnovers in the 4th is not doing you any favors.
I hope you don't say "AB outplays other PG almost every night" anymore. It's pretty much the other way around nowadays. Maybe we had Lowry to make them look bad on offense was the bigger reason.
i haven't yet read this thread, but as soon as i saw the title, i had to post - i lucked into two suite tickets for tonight's game 30 minutes before tipoff, so i was able to attend the match-up. ALL NIGHT i was screaming for them to give K-Mart the ball. people were looking at me like i was crazy. it almost felt like Brooks was freezing (iso'ing?) out K-Mart. then, lo and behold, the times K-Mart actually got the ball and decided to take it upon himself to make something happen, something productive would happen. Just a disgusting game, in terms of our offense. K-Mart is our best player; you'd think they'd be running ish through him.
i've`been saying this... TWO SG in the starting lineup won't work. and i said 2 SG. cause thats what brooks is
still cant believe you guys are trying to blame brooks for martins poor play... i guess it was tyreke evans fault he was shooting just as bad in SAC right ?
Did Kevin Martin tongue kiss your mom or what? You have been all over him tonight? Or are you secretly jealous that he did not tongue kiss you?
Just look Martins 25 PPG days in Sac. i know bibby only averaged 5 assist a game but that team was great passing team from all positions. Bibby would get the hockey assist which doesnt give him credit, but he gave up the ball. MOVE THE BALL AB!!
i would imagine that tyreke evans is a score first PG/SG. therefore it might be his fault. look at how udrih distributed the ball the first 6 games of the season. Martin avg 31 ppg. udrih gets the ball in the right hands.
I agree. Martin should be the one taking 20+ shots a game, not Aaron. It looks like he takes a while to heat up, but when he gets started, Aaron stops passing the ball. Martin has only shot the ball 42 times over the past few games. He is the type of player who needs to shoot the ball alot in order to be effective. He needs 20+ shots a game. Period.
Tonight I actually got pretty pissed off. This needs to be the time where Brooks needs to learn to dish the ball off. The trade for Martin makes perfect sense. We need a shooting guard... Brooks had Martin open a few times tonight and did not pass the ball. (I saw the stats Martin didn't shoot great) Brooks is our point guard of the "future." Point guards are suppose to make plays happen. Not jack up shots everytime they get a look they think is good. Brooks is somewhat starting to remind me of Steve Francis. Obviously we made the trade for Martin to be our top scorer. (If you do not like Martin, seriously tough, he will be here for a while, probably longer) Martin has not clearly fit in yet but of course it takes time. We obviously need someone to play post. Jefferies and Armstong will not cut it. (Who cares if we are tanking, they suck). Stop giving. They could not make the lineup on garbage teams this year. Overall, we still need something big to happen this summer. Whether it be Bosh, or other impact players. BUT do not doubt Kevin Martin yet. He is still young with great all star potential. Also, Lowry hurry up and get better... Craft
It's so obvious that Brooks had something going on with Martin, there were at least 5 times that he purposely refuse to pass to Martin... However, I think Martin's style is pretty selfish as well, that could be the side effects from his Sacramento days..
First rule in bb for a point guard is to ride the hot hand. Martin got hot. It should have been incumbent on Brooks to feed Martin until does not work. To ignore a hot hand... I don't know what to think about Brooks.
Dwight Howard becomes the first player since Wilt Chamberlain to go 30+ pts/15+ reb and perfect from the field and the majority of the threads and complaints are about Brooks? I am not deceived by Brooks' stat line. He made tons of horrible decisions from failed bounce passes early to ignoring teammates late to bad shot selection and over dribbling. Having said all that, the defensive rotations by just about everybody (not just Brooks) were HORRIBLE throughout the game. Dwight Howard ate all of our bigs alive. Why are there zero threads slamming any player other than Brooks? He deserved some criticism but why is he getting seemingly the ENTIRE focus of blame around here?
because dwight howard wrecks every team. we cant do anything about that but we can do something about aaron brooks and his atrocious play tonight.
Honestly thats the way I see. Andersen can't guard Dwight, it really is pointless to argue about it. No one on the team can, so it's more like meh. They doubled Dwight and the Magic start to miss shots...so now it's on us to make a run and capitalize on that and Martin just went off for 16 or so points to put us back in the game for the 4th qtr...only to never get the ball again. It's very frustrating.
That's absurd that Brooks should be expected to play better but not the rest of the players on the team. As dominant as Howard is, it's all about the degree of his dominance and limiting him. He's going to usually get his but that doesn't mean he should do something that only 3 players in NBA history have done, the last being Wilt Chamberlain. I also mentioned the failed defensive rotations by pretty much every player on the team at one point or another. It was more than just the inability to stop Howard or Brooks not passing to Martin enough that did us in last night. And why can we do something about Brooks but not the atrocious defensive rotations by multiple other players? That makes zero sense. Why should Brooks be held to different standards? His mistakes were just different than the mistakes of other players. Why can we do something about Brooks but do nothing about stopping Howard from not just wrecking our frontcourt but doing so in a way that hasn't been done since Wilt Chamberlain? Why should Brooks have to make better plays and decisions, offensively and defensively, but not the rest of the team? The PG isn't the only position on the court. I agree that Brooks made a ton of horrible decisions and absolutely should have looked for Martin more among several other things. There are a lot of ongoing problems with Brooks. Maybe he'll be gone next season and Lowry will get his turn to step up. I'm not questioning any of those things. I'm simply saying that Brooks shouldn't get multiple threads and 10+ pages of criticism while the other players who failed on multiple levels get off relatively clean. There were so many examples of horrible play that had little to nothing to do with Brooks: Budinger and Andersen getting simultaneously picked off by a Vince Carter screen, leaving Howard all alone under the basket... Battier getting schooled by just about every player he defended... Battier making his share of horrible passes... Scola being useless at both ends of the court... tons of other missed rotations not involving Brooks... Andersen continuing to give up And1s under the basket at an alarming rate, etc... etc... etc... It's ridiculous to suggest we can/should do something about Brooks but not about the other players and correctable issues. There is too much finger pointing at one player going on around here recently.
