Turn to a different addiction. World of Warcraft? Sex? Ah yeah, that second one dude.

In all seriousness. Swallow the pride, and call those gambling problem hotlines or groups. You owe it to those you are affecting with your problem. Seek the help not just for yourself, but for those around you as well.

Being embarrassed is better then being broke.

I blew 200 dollars yesterday doing online gambling, but I only started out with 20 bucks. But the thing is I can stop whenever I want. I don't have an addiction like the op has.

It can get worse than getting embarassed.

Think about what can happen if you dig a hole you can not get out even if you work for a year straight? What about 2 years or more?

I know good people turning to crime if they have no way out. Stop before it's too late.

What are you playing? I hate roulette with a passion and never got into blackjack. I wish I knew how to play craps but I stick to what I'm good at and that's hold em.

I played a lot during college and my Asian friends really helped me get better. These guys were beasts and would play all day..online & one of them ran a room.

The MGM is where I usually play cash games at when I go to Vegas. I tend to leave with more cash than what I came with. It's always fun to steal money from the guy that is even more drunk than yourself.

sounds like an issue i had... except replace gambling with hookers...

my remedy was to quickly rub one out, then all urges subside... for a little while anyway

Thanks, I think I will call GA this weekend.

rage: I've been gambling for about 5 years now with major on and off periods. I usually dig a big hole the crawl my way out by not gambling for several months... then dig the hole again. I think part of my problem is that I don't hit rock bottom like some people you read about online. But in the end, I never have any money.

sammy: I usually play blackjack and sometimes hold'em.

Why do you find it embarrassing to go to a Gambler's Anonymous meeting?

People have addictions. Group therapy is often needed due to the group like encouragement aspect you will not find in your state of mind, alone.

understandable. You may have to get over that.

It helps if you can find some friends that you can give full details about what you've been doing and how you've messed up. These might not be the typical friends you'd tell "normal" stuff to because you don't want them to know about the issues. It'd be good to still find people that know you pretty well, that are good listeners, and that will give you their opinion (rather than keeping things to themselves). It might not be easy to find people that fit that description that also aren't in the category of "can't tell them about this stuff"... in which case, a group is probably your best bet.

Things that helped were screwing up...and then telling those people about it to feel slightly more accountable for it. After that, a couple of years off were much easier to deal with

I never understood gambling because inherently, I hate to lose more than I love to win. You work so freaking hard to make money, I don't even like to buy stuff unless it's a great value much less piss it away.

I do gamble a little at golf but it's just sort of a way to keep score. If I win I just put the cash in my wallet and never think about it, but if I lose, I obsess over it and it's about the same the same amount. I'm sure I break even over the long haul.

Just think about how much work you have to do to make the amount you are considering putting down; how much you have at risk just trying to provide for your own life's security.

I dont think you should necessarily quite gambling...you should just play better.

Do you play poker? Blackjack? Craps? Roulette?

Ive won over 23,000 dollars over the last year and a half at casinos and I dont go into it willing to lose more than 500 bucks. Ive gone to a casino maybe 20 times in that time span. There is something wrong with your game. Lets try to figure out what youre doing wrong and correct it. The gambling part is fun, you just need to win your money back.

Jeez dawg, you think that people actually win in the long haul? As a short term anomaly maybe, but they don't build the giant casinos to give away cash.
