Too early to say. It's safe to assume what we saw these past two games is this roster at its worst, and things will only get better as everyone figures out their roles and Lowry returns.

I want to see how this team meshes after, say, five games before making guesses as to their playoff chances. Then again, they may be six or seven games out of the eighth seed by then, and talking playoffs may start looking like a moot point.

i'm surprised so many have given up. plenty of season left, i think once the dust settles we'll play well enough to claw our way into the playoffs.

what our team needs is a player that has a presence on the court and kmartin isnt one that has that superstar aura.Cant wait for YAO to get back though.

But if you've seen the NYK vs OKC game?damn..TMAC despite being a shadow of what he once was and that lucky 26pts performance..i really saw and felt that presence that a superstar was on the court and that really is an x-factor sometimes that could help win games..just that presence...its like watching MJ in a way as a wizard not the same but the presence was there. And Kmartin will never be that type of guy.its like he doesnt even exist.

oh back to the topic..realistically i dont think we'd make the playoffs but i certainly hope so.

i want to believe so badly but to me the team tells me it has given up on this season. it's a throwaway year at this point and everyone is looking forward to next year with Yao.

I never doubted this team all season and never stopped believing, even during our slump to start 2010. that passion came to a screeching halt last week when we lost part of the core that made the team so exciting for the last two or three seasons and to start our season with so much optimism.

but it seems the team is building to secure the future and anything that happens positive from here on out is chalked up to developing our youth...

    Too pessimistic.

It will take a few games for the team to gel but we will be better than we were before the trade. We had a little to no chance to make the play-offs before the trade, we have a little better chance now.

If we can at least play 50 ball the next 8-10 games, we can finish strong and make the play-offs.

I don't think it's completely out of the realm of possibility, but I think it's pretty unlikely that we make the playoffs. Still, I think we're going to do great things next season.

I disagree about the team having given up on the season. Rather, the players, and maybe even the coaching staff, seemed as if they were really caught off guard by the Landry trade and losing their 4Q guy, and they haven't had a chance yet to adjust to the new roster. That plus having Lowry out forced the team and Adelman to improvise big portions of the last few games.

But I think they still see themselves as being in the playoff hunt. They even held an extra practice Monday after the back-to-backs just so that they can get to work on figuring out how to play together. That's not something they'd do if they're just biding time until end of the season.

Whatever happens, I think the drive and desire to make the playoffs is still there.

Not necessarily. What happens if Durant o Nash get injured for 4-5 games? We have to be there just in case.

I wish this question was posed back in October and people's answers were recorded. So we could see how some people's expectations changed after the first month of the season. After we won a few games against Portland and lakers. Coming into this season it was expected to be a deceloikg year for guys like Brooks and Ariza. We knew there would be stretches where they struggled. Now all of a sudden you see so many posts saying Ariza sucks and we should trade him.

I think this team will fight all the way til the end. With a little momentum and help from other teams we can sneak in.

Think about this Rocket fans, how would you feel if we were the spurs? Bring in Jefferson and mcdyess (to go with duncan, Parker, and a healthy Manu) this summer and automatically think title again. Well well, they are barely hanging on to the 7th spot with a bunch of road games yet to come. Now 'THAT' is a let down to me.

So appreciate the effort our guys put forth and give Martin and the new guys a chance to show what they can do. Back in October we all KNEW there were no expectations on this season.

It'd be really tough. I think we'll miss out by a few games.

Will you please reinstate my quote in your sig. that stated that we were a lottery team (aka no playoffs) without McGrady and Yao?

I've never left that position. It's not that the Rockets are bad; it's that they are only pretty good. Pretty good's probably not enough in the West.

They will need a minor miracle to make it now. Lowry and Arzia are down and they face the Magic (lost). In fact, I can see a pro-long losing streak coming.

I would love them to win and prove me wrong. I really do but the reality of the matter is there is not enough firepower to put the Rockets over the top on most teams now. Losing the best 4 qth guy they had really hurt but it needed to be done. I will miss Carl but life goes on.

If by some miracle Kevin Martin starts looking like a allstar and they actually start playing defense again....who knows.

I guess I am in the minority here, I say they make it. Lowry will come back sparking our team once again. We are currently 1-5 without Lowry since he went out again.

    I say we get in

I think its a coin flip at this point, March is an easy month for us and if we can string together 7 or 8 out of 10 we're right back into it. I would be a lot less optimistic if Portland had a full roster. That's my heart. If I was wageing with my money I'd say no, they won't get in.

Don't mean to be picking on you, but it is a question of timing. We have upgraded our overall talent level (including some needed bigs). The problem is that the team doesn't have the necessary time to gel. Combined that with injuries to Ariza and most importantly, Lowry, and we are dealth a 2 and a 3 card while playing 21.

A few more losses and we should just playing all the newcomers and see what they have against real nba competition, instead of waiting for next year.
