By JONATHAN FEIGEN Martin needs time With a timeout late in the first half, Rockets coach Rick Adelman stopped to give Kevin Martin a few words and many pats on the back. Martin had followed his 3-of-16 first game with the Rockets with a 1-of-6 first half. Adelman wanted one adjustment. “He just needs to relax,” Adelman said. “I feel he's really rushing everything. In the first half, when he made his move, everything was in a hurry. When he got his shot, it wasn't a natural shot. And I thought he could have gotten about three or four calls in the game. “He just has to play through it. I thought he relaxed as the game went on. He's going to be OK. When you come into a new team, two games over the weekend, I think the nerves showed a little bit.” He missed two more shots before going 4-for-4 for 10 points in the fourth quarter. “Adelman told me I was rushing a little bit and to just relax,” Martin said. “That's what I did in the second half, just let it come to me in the fourth quarter. I think I just needed a fourth quarter like that to get things moving.” Read more at http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/6878707.html Talks about Jared Jeffries tonight and Hilton Armstrong. My memory may be short but I think that's the first time I've heard a player refer to his coach in a last name, no title business.
Rockets are in a win win position. We lose more games we get a higher draft picks. We make it to the playoffs we get more revenue to continue to do things like buy picks if needed. I hope the Rockets dont ever tank, but if we happen to lose cause we need to see what these guys bring to the table, im ok with it.
What about his defense. Even from the two game sample, it looks like the guy has his feet in cement sometimes on defense.
I think that will just be something we have to accept. He's replacing T-Mac on defense. It shouldn't take too much to impress us there.
He seems like more of a guy that plays the passing lane, which he does pretty well. He can read defenses, but his one on one defense is sub par.
He is 8 of 28 in the in the last 2 games and one of those was a uncontested junk time layup. so it can only go up from here for k-brick
He really did look like he was just rushing everything and got more comfortable in that last quarter. I'm confident that he can start shooting like that and with more consistency with a little more time and practice.
Someone said when he got here that he knew Adelman's offense, but the defensive rotations and schemes that Dunn and Turner have put in are something he will have to pick up. I expect that once he gets a few practices under his belt both his offense and a little of his defense to improve.
The problem is RICK ADELMAN! He is always trying to control to much of the players while trying to seem like he is just "letting them play". The bottom line is that even Tracy who hasn't really played a full game in over a year and a half was able to start for the Knicks and work on getting his mojo back. Landry started right away with the Kings. But nooooooooo..Martin has to play limited minutes and not start with Adelman because he needs to what...learn the system? Get adjusted? Oh wait.....RELAX. Adelman is a control freak! He needs to just start the guy, put Battier on the bench and let this team do what they need to do. His not playing Scola but 20 something minutes is absolutely assinine!
Well you see, learning how to run the plays and knowing the strengths and weaknesses of your teammates as well as the rotations is kind of important. But maybe that's just me. < Good. >
Knicks and Kings don't mind losing as they are already losing bad. Not to mention Landry and Tmac is a huge upgrade over their starters. Rox do mind losing, and Kevin Martin is playing into a rotation that have been working for half a season.
Rotations? You mean you like RA's current rotations of his players? You think this team is running good plays?
Update: The Rockets are losing bad and often at home! You don't play "superstars" into rotations. You insert them and let them find their way. Or is Kevin Martin not considered to be the superstar that this team needed? If not, why did we give up a superstar and 6th man of the Year candidate just to get him? And I thought Martin was also considered to be a huge upgrade over our starters?
Anybody else think Martin's got a really odd looking shot? He has a really slow release. I usually think he's gonna get blocked every time he tries to get a shot off.
Feigan thinks that Martin will start against the Magic. Their 1st practice is tomorrow, according to Jordan Hill. http://blogs.chron.com/nba/2010/02/pacers_125_rockets_115_now_wha.html#c1632421 http://twitter.com/jordanchill43
He shot's from the hip but his release is fast at the top. No one will block his jumper because he gets really high up. His set shot from 3? he could get blocked but he's 6'7 so It would have to be a really long player with good timing.
