    Without Yao's paint protection, NO![

QUOTE=somenobody]Simple question! I feel the team lost their defensive nature recently. Although we are short of hands, we did pretty well at the beginning of the season, simply by the signatuer hustling. Now the team can score a lot, but I feel the players lost the energy. And players like Scola who never stop hustling on the court, is always benched at the fourth quarter. What happened to the team?[/QUOTE]

On a team without Deke or Yao, umm... no they wouldn't.

Btw, you know how everyone's thrilled about the "fast and exciting" Rockets team at the beginning of the year? Well, this is the product of that. The defense is going to be porous in this style.

I'm not saying I doubt Adelman. He can only play the hand he's dealt with. And this is the best style for this roster. If and when Yao comes back healthy, this problem will subside.

you sure about that? We may not have been this bad, but we werent good. It got worse because teams the excitement wore off, players got tired, and teams were less scared.

they are more of an offensive team then defensive, if we had good defense we wouldnt be so much of a bubble team but thats pushing it. the energy and running required in our new offense takes a toll on them, so if they played hardcore D i could see the offense dipping a lot. plus we were defensive because we had a big that scared guys from taking it to the rack and right now theres nothing to be afraid of in the pain, hell id try to take it to the rack against this team. eventhough the chuckwagon would stop me but thats besides the point.

Imagine if the rumored trade with the suns had gone through.

Aaron Brooks, Kevin Martin, Amare Stoudemire in the starting lineup. That would be the complete transition from a JVG team to a JVG nightmare, defensively speaking.

Things have certainly changed around here.

No, and it has nothing to do with our guards or wings.

We have no shot blocking presence and teams can pick and roll and get to the rim at will.

We need a center or PF that can block shots or intimidate AT the rim.

Adelman inherited a top five defense when JVG left, which was why we still were tops in the leauge when it was Adelmans first year here, but season by season it has deteriorated into almost nothing especially with Yao not playing this year.

    Just now this is noticed?

Although this does inform us of how important Yao is defensively in deterring the layup drills....perhaps he doesn't block as many shots as more people are unwilling to shoot around the basket with him there. or was that already obvious?

If JVG here, I think he would do this. One man show defensvie team:

    Hayes
    Jeffries
    Battier
    Martin/Brooks
    Temple

This is what Larry Brown did in 76ers with AI. Martin or AB with 40+ attempts.

I still rmb the days when ppl thought we could hv the defensive system of Van Gundy and the princeton offense of Adelman. I guess the only ppl rmbing Van Gundy would be Chuck, Shane, and Yao.

i don't even think that this team has an identity either way..defensive nor offensive.

how can we even call our rockets a high scoring team if they cant outscore the opposing team...

i just hope YAO can come back and be the anchor that will help us get back that Defensive presence as a whole.

oh BTW...how do i change my username? i've been trying but cant.any help pls?
