I’ll be auditioning tomorrow to be on Wheel of Fortune. Over one million people apply to be on the show every year and only a handful get picked to audition. I was selected, so now I need to make sure I get picked to be on the actual show. A little history…my mom is an avid fan of the show (the downstairs TV is hers and hers only from 6:30-7 six days a week), so I’ve been applying to be a contestant every 6-7 months for the past couple of years. Two weeks ago I received an invitation to audition so I RSVP’d, booked my ticket and reserved a hotel room as soon as I got my invite. As for the audition, I’ll be asked to take a couple tests and then I’ll play a bunch of simulated games. I’ll be rated based on how I perform in the games (puzzle solving ability, TV-friendliness). --- Now where does CF come in? I'm not great at searching obscure queries on Google, so I would really, really appreciate it if you guys could help me find links where people describe their WOF audition. I really want this (my mom would be ecstatic), so a leg up based off real audition experiences would definitely be a huge plus. Additionally, I'll be in Culver City until Tuesday afternoon. I'd like to hit up the Clippers game (Lakers will be out of town) on Monday night, so please let me know if you are interested via email. Thanks everyone.

Good luck man, are they paying for your ticket and hotel? It would suck if it's all coming out of your pocket and it's only for the chance to audition.
Not my personal experience, but based on what I've heard from friends and google-ees who've been on game shows: Interview: Be yourself, but more so. That's about all you can control. Mock game: Be sure to be supportive of your fellow contestants -- you've seen enough WoF to know how the contestants act. Pretend like the three of you are all playing against the house. Basically, do what they tell you to do. (You probably know all that, but it's important.) A couple of message board threads from the obscure wheel of fortune audition tips search on Google: http://gameshow.ipbhost.com/lofiversion/index.php/t11193-0.html http://boards.sonypictures.com/boards/showthread.php?t=8990 Good luck!
I don't have much experience in watching these shows, but I have been given the same advice by my mentor in terms of making a lasting impression. Have a catch phrase, or have your own little dance after you making a winning statement. Everyone will remember you. People will like you. You will be king.
I need something unique (G rated obviously) to say for my introductory speech tomorrow. Any ideas? 24/m/engineer
Say you are a virgin, and will be using your winnings to buy the #1 hooker in America. Everyone loves a feel good story.
First off, good luck on the audition! Why not say you're going to donate all the winnings to the victims in Haiti? Or maybe use some CF references. Like if someone wins something, say "damn he a straight up Mandry" or if you get something wrong "I just Ariza'd that guess"
Got the audition tips down. Kimble14, thanks for the sonypictures link, I just went through about 20-30 threads in that forum. Now for the 30 second speech....
my friend got on the show when it came to houston a while ago.. i think he got picked because he was overly enthusiastic about everything and LOUD. be loud.
Aren't you cool, writing an old internet meme that was popular 6 months ago. You're just about cool as the guy who still posts cat pictures.
i actually audtioned for the show maybe 2 years ago so if they have the same set up as they did for me this is what happened: you go into a room at a hotel with about 40-50 other people most likely at the radisson hotel off the 405. You will fill out a basic question form asking stuff like if you are selected for a college week (if you are a student), favorite athlete for those athelete/constestant show etc and other things about yourself then you will play a mini-WOF game where a puzzle will be projected onto the screen and you basically get 3 turns to pick a letter...after the third consonant is picked the person in charge of "spinning the wheel" (they have a fake wheel up in front that they spin and choose where you land) will purposefully land on a lose a turn/bankrupt spot to move on. "buying" a vowel didnt cost you a turn, at least it didnt when I auditioned. When you hear your name you stand up and announce your letters and if you are lucky enough to solve the puzzle you win either a WOF hat or t-shirt. basically this exercise is to see how well you are able to project yourself and how you would be like talking etc. when I did this I was actually given a new puzzle (the person before me solved their puzzle) and I was able to solve my puzzle in 3 rounds and 2 vowel (presidential historian) and i got a hat. Everyone was sort of shocked since I was the only one who basically solved a brand new puzzle in one turn. After that mini-game was played we were given a sheet of paper with various word games and word puzzles on it and given about 10 or 15 minutes to finish as many as possible. If I remember correctly there were 6 different types of word games and 5 questions per type so a total of 30 questions. I got 26 out of the 30 done and turned in my paper. There was a little break then as the sony studios ppl discussed who to take onto the next round. During this time i was talking to the people around me, many of whom were avid watchers and they were talking WOF episodes etc and asked how many questions they had gotten done on the paper...most of them finished around 15-18 so I was kind of happy I got more then. A lot of them thought I would be advanced since I gotten many of the questions done and that I had solved an entire puzzle on my own earlier. Then they announced the 8-10 people they would advance to the next stage of auditions/call back...sadly I wasnt asked to come back. I was disappointed but I wasnt that down, the people around me were more shocked I wasnt asked to move on since I did so well. I looked at the people who were asked to move on and disregarding the 4 people who were advancing primarily due to their looks the other people seemed like pretty average people. I remember when they stood up to give their answers during the mini-game and nothing stood out to me. Of course there weren't sitting by me so I dont know how well they did with the other word puzzles on the sheet. After everyone was dismissed I was talking to the guy next to me in the room as we were getting some water and he was telling me not to be down (not sure why everyone thought I was down i was hoping to go further but at least I got a hat) and one of the sony ppl pulled me aside and asked if I was upset that I didnt advance. I told her I wasnt upset but I was a bit surprised i thought i did pretty well in both of the games. And she said I did do extremely well in both and then she added...a bit too well. She said that while they want to make people's dream of appearing on the show true they also need to make the show entertaining and that if they put someone on that is too good they will dominate the show more often than not and that doesnt make for good television and it makes the other contestants look like fools on national tv which is not something they want. sometimes it happens of course but they try their best for it to not happen. I laughed and I said that makes sense because there are times at home when I did watch the show that I didnt understand why some of these people just couldnt get what I thought were solvable puzzles. she said sorry and I left I've gotten the email one more time since I first auditioned but I didnt go this time. My advice is to be yourself, on the mini-game make sure to be nice and loud and clear they are looking for that. DO NOT mumble and words or letters. try to be as animated/full of personality as possible. From my experience it doesnt help to stand out from the rest of the people in terms of being able to solve all the puzzles correctly but they are looking for people who would be better suited for tv. if you are a blond with a nice rack that would help as well and I would be down for a clippers game tomorrow night send me an email through the board not sure if you bought tickets yet or what your plan was. I live near downtown culver city
