Absolutely love the trade by DM! I think it sets us up very nicely for next season. Just the fact that DM was so close on dealing for adding Amare as well just blows me away, but moving on.

Which big man comes off the bench to provide scoring for the Rockets? The candidates are as follows with their career stats:

    David Andersen 6'11" 245lbs age 29
    Code:
MP	FG%	3P%	FT%	TRB	AST	STL	BLK	PF	PTS
    14.5	0.432	0.308	0.709	3.2	0.8	0.2	0.2	2	5.9

    Jordan Hill 6'10" 235lbs age 22
    Code:
MP	FG%	3P%	FT%	TRB	AST	STL	BLK	PF	PTS
    10.5	0.446	0	0.714	2.5	0.3	0.4	0.4	1.5	4

    Hilton Armstrong 6'11" 235lbs age 25
    Code:
MP	FG%	3P%	FT%	TRB	AST	STL	BLK	PF	PTS
    12.8	0.509	0	0.608	2.7	0.4	0.3	0.5	2	3.5

    Jarred Jeffries 6'11" 230lbs age 28
    Code:
MP	FG%	3P%	FT%	TRB	AST	STL	BLK	PF	PTS
    23.5	0.433	0.262	0.583	4.4	1.4	0.7	0.5	2.6	5.3

IMO it will be Andersen to begin with just based on his knowledge of RA's system and the fact that he seems to get fouled slightly less than Armstrong or Hill. Andersen has proven that he has the ability to bring offense to the game and has some nice post moves when he chooses to use them. He can be very aggresive on the offensive end but does not provide much in the way of defense. Andersen has the versatility to come in for either Chuck or Scola.

Jeffries is the veteran but he has probably played as much small forward as power forward. He has size and athleticism but is not a banger for sure. Hill sould get the opportunity as he learns the system. I really have no idea what the Rockets will do with him because I just don't see him getting many minutes at the 3 position with due to Ariza, Battier and Chase. He does not offer much rebounding but possibly his defense will get him games when the Chuck gets in foul trouble.

Hill is the wild card IMO. He is young, athletic and a lottery pick. He has all the tools but he is as foul prone as Andersen. I think defense is his key to getting on the floor. If he can prove that he can come in and grab some rebounds, play tough defense and create some scoring opportunities for himself by attacking the offensive glass then I think we will see him as the 1st big man off the bench at some point.

Hilton Armstrong is going to play the role of Brian Cook IMO. We will see him in the game due to injuries or foul trouble. He just has not produced much since he has been in the league. Perhaps he gets a legit shot at backing up Hayes at some point if he proves he can play defense. I wish I knew more about this guy other than his stats.

Overall I think the Rockets are going to be pretty thin in the front court until Yao gets back and Hill develops. I know RA likes a set rotation but he may be forced to just go with whoever is playing will that night or whoever can stay out of foul trouble.

Andersen and Jeffries will be in the rotation first, though against bigger lineups Armstrong may get some minutes.

Adelman isn't going to play a rookie he's hardly seen play anything but garbage time minutes. He's still trying to win games.

This is Adelman we are talking about, he's not going to stray to far from his usual rotation guys in one game and probably after seeing them in barely one practice.

Not to mention, I don't remember if the Pacers have a really physical center on their team or not, so he may not feel the match up is one he needs to gamble on.

jordan hill might get some minutes depends on how he performs in practice.
jefferies has been in the league for many years. he's definitely in the rotation.
probably coming off the bench ahead of david andersen.

Not sure about that. Adelman has thrown Chase out there, it could go either way with him. Some rookies Adelman is hesitant to play (Taylor) and some he just throws out there.

now, anderson. but in 10-15 games, armstrong and hill. i'm telling you, armstrong can play, he's being undervalued here on the board. he's a legit 10-10 guy if given minutes.

Jeffries this year isn't doing too bad defensively STL 1.0, BLK 1.1...still Anderson will be the first big off the bench.

Hilton Armstrong is extremely underrated. This guy can get quality minutes in a system like the Rockets have around these class of players.

Budinger had an entire summer and training camp to show what he's got. And the Rockets lacked depth at the wing position so he had to play.

    I'm no coach or strategist by any means. However, I see the rotational pairings this way: Armstrong paired with Scola; Andersen paired with Hill;
Ariza paired with Martin; Budinger paired with Battier.

Scola gives you offense and defense while Armstrong seals off the opposing big man and stuffs a few putbacks. Andersen wanders everywhere from perimeter to paint allowing Hill to fulfill the Armstrong role in the Scola pairing.

On the other hand, Ariza makes up for the defensive weakness of Kartin (because he will carry the team) whlle Battier does the same for Budinger. Both provide firepower (Ariza incredibly more so than Battier's spot up treys).

Jared Jeffries comes into play when a tall SF like Raschard Lewis or a PF/C like M. Okur is torching us. He's a good defender but we have to put scorers around him.

Many on the board don't like Armstrong, but he is a good character guy and will not make noise for minutes as Yao Ming's backup. Also, he brings a different skill set to complement Yao, more so than Andersen, although Andersen's offense will vastly improve with the reduced pressure from opposing centers and power forwards.

Im going with Jordan Hill, at 6'10 he is our most athletic big and also with the most upside, we need to develop him by giving him as much playing time as we can this year, so when Yao come's back next year he'll be ready for a deep playoff run....this year is about developing our Young talent to get them ready for next year IMO...

Rockets need to find out what Hill can do even if it means force feeding him minutes.

If this truly is a "development season", as long as he isn't killing the team, they definitely need to play this guy.

Andersen is way too weak on defense, need to move him to PF and let him focus on offense. Armstrong is a legit NBA center, him and Hayes are going to a do better job of protecting the paint.

Andersen is actually pretty good offensively, the problem is that he's inconsistent.
