The Micheal Jordan being cut from his high school team is always a bit misleading story. He was cut from the varsity team as a sophomore, but still was the leading scorer for the JV team with several 40 point games. He was also only 5'11 at that time.

Not that I disagree with the concept that practice and hard work is important in going from good to great, but talent and physical abilities obviously matter. Chuck Hayes is never going to be better than Tmac in his prime, regardless of how much harder he works or how much he practices.

Is he really that lazy? It's not like any other young player is getting any minutes on that Knicks team. D'Antoni plays his 7-man rotation and kick everyone else out. The Knicks other 1st round pick, Tony Douglas, is also twiddling his fingers on the bench.

It seems to me that more than anything else, no one's teaching Hill how to play in the NBA. They expected more polish out of him. And when he didn't show that, they just told him to take a seat.
