I think Toney Douglas would have been a better pick up, but maybe Hill can show another leap and bounds improvement next season like he did in college.

So you would rather have a 2 round pick instead of the 8 pick.

Of course Toney Douglas would have been a better pickup. But they didn't offer Douglas. They didn't offer Chandler. They didn't offer Galinari. They offered Hill. He may have a future in this league but his past and present sucked and they wanted him gone. I think the deal was as much prevalent on dumping him as it was Jeffries.

Make no mistake about it Morey would have done the deal without picking him up and Walsh probably wasn't. The Jury is still out on Hill. He is a big that can jump but is weaker than Lowry.

Good Point. But there is also still a move that could be made to land a rich man's Bosh, that being Bosh himself. A solid nucleus of role players behind Yao and Martin will likely entice him, even if it's only consideration, via sign-and-trade during the Draft.

If Knicks got Lebron and became an elite team, won't their first round picks be always in the 30s? that will be very bad!

Why would we want a poor man's Bosh when we can have the real Bosh
AND keep the real Lowry?

I have this cautiously optimistic feeling that Morey's #1 target this summer is Bosh. This is why:

    1) Morey mentioned in his conference that it is rare for star players to just up-and-go in a free agency situation. Partly because a)the star can get up to $30 million more with a s&t; and b)because the teams don't want to lose their franchise player for nothing.
By all accounts, if Bosh wants to leave, then he and the Raptors would probably agree that this is the best option where Bosh can get the max deal and not leave Toronto empty-handed.

    2) I'm not sure about other teams' situations, but I think that the Rockets can offer a lucrative package for a S&T. Houston has A LOT of positive things going for them. a) they can give a player like Bosh the keys to the team. He would be the clear #1 option (Bosh has said something like, "I don't want to go to another team to be with player X. I feel like they should build around ME"). Most teams have opted to clear cap space in hopes of alluring top tier free agents. Their plans is to acquire the franchise player and build around them. That is risky + takes time. Morey approaches this unconventionally in that he builds a team tailor fitted to you and says that you are the missing link to an immediate championship contending team. If you were a ball player, which team would you choose? I would choose the team that gives me more money AND is ready to win NOW. Oh, and did I mention that Bosh is a Texas native and no state income tax?

So what kind of package can we offer?
How about something along the lines of
Brooks, Battier, Jeffries, and Hill + the 2 NY draft picks
    for
    Bosh and filler

Toronto might not like it but if Bosh wants to leave, then they will probably have to take an offer. Brooks is the borderline young and upcoming all star, Battier is the veteran, Hill is the youth with potential and on top of that, Toronto gets to sabotage NY's plans of pairing Bosh with a LeBron or Wade. That way, Raps would get the best value for NY's draft picks. All of the aforementioned contracts are also expirings. Raps also probably wants to trade Bosh to a western team instead of east.

For us? Plain and simple. Morey has said that Les is 100% willing to pay next year. and that they are going to resign Scola and Lowry. The 2010-11 Houston Rockets would look something like this.

Starting 5: Yao, Bosh, Ariza, Martin, Lowry.
Subs: Scola, Budinger, Andersen, Taylor, Lull, draft picks.

Bosh was just one scenario. Many people have also mentioned Chris Paul.
With either, the Rockets become a top 3 team in the NBA for multiple years.

We should keep this quiet because we don't want to reveal Morey's true intentions. Actually, forget that cuz even if we show Morey's hand, I believe that he would still prevail...

(I realize that this might be the wrong thread for this, but I can't make new ones since I'm rookie status)

All great points. Continuing with your "Bosh craves Alpha-status" argument, I can't see Bosh following 'Bron AT ALL. Nor can I see him following Wade. But I can visualize him playing here due to:

    A) It being too risky for Yao to be the alpha dog from this point forward, therefore allowing Bosh to wear that crown
    B) our success finishing out this season with just Martin as the lead dog
    &
    C) all of what you stated above

It is difficult for me to see the Rockets as not being huge factors this summer, with Morey's prowess, and the wealth of bargaining chips we have on the table already.

Yeah, and I forgot to mention that I think the city of Houston and Rockets fans are also a great selling point. As a player, you want to go where people like you/court you.
    +
The Yao effect: Global basketball icon and incredible marketing opportunities far outweighing any NY deals
    +
A willing to spend owner, top 5 head coach, and #1 GM.

With all these positives and hardly any negatives, why on earth would
someone like Bosh, Paul, or any other free agent NOT want to come?

I'm not sure if it's been brought up yet... but the Rockets got a lot taller and more athletic with this trade, two areas which the Rockets have lacked for a long time... Kevin Martin (6'7" SG), Jared Jeffries (6'11" SF), Jordan Hill (6'10" PF), Hilton Armstrong (6'11" C), plus all these players have long wingspans...

...this is a far cry from the Rocket teams of David Wesley, Juwan Howard, Ryan Bowen, etc. ...this further shows the magic of Morey

I suppose the happiest thing to come out of our trade is that Rick Adelman gets to have a reunion with both of his sons. ;)

I hope Jordan Hill or Hilton Armstrong can provide shotblocking and paint defense for the Rockets. We've always needed a defensive C since Mutumbo retired. Chuck Hayes is very good at guarding centers but he cannot stop the other teams' guards from penetrating our lane. A lot of times the game looks like a layup drill for the other team.

There is only 1st round pick in the 30s. Picks 31-39 are in the 2nd round. They would have to have the best record every year to make their 1st round pick 30th every year. The Celtics, Lakers, Spurs can't even do that 2 years in a row.

i still think that we should have done this deal with bulls.
we could have gotten brad miller tyrus thomas and larry hughes for mcgrady and dorsey and draft picks or whatsoever. than we would have more option this year, better chance to improve in off-season, and most importantly we would still have by far 6th man of the year

    - Brad Miller would most likely be a 1 yr rental. He would prolly want to sign witha real contender.

    - If we kept Landry.. There's no real need for Tyrus Thomas.

-Hughes would def be a rental

They weren't offering any picks. They were looking for a 3rd team which would be willing to add some. When it couldn't be done, they dropped out.
