Seeing all the negative press on VCarter here of late, I'm sure not to many people would rank him high on their list. Still, even an AntiRaptor like me has to marvel at his awe-inspiring, gravity defying moves and his all-round skill. So as I ponder another individual comparison, this of two stars who play north of the border, one is quite possibly the most underrated player in the game, while the other can't hide from the sportlight. So, I ask, who's better?

Shareef, or "The Future", is more of a SF/PF type whereas "Air Carter" is more SF/SG, but they are comparable. Carter is the extension of the Human Highlight Reel, is downright explosive when swooping to the basket, and has improved his outside shot to the point where he is deadly on the offensive end. He proved he could be clutch at the end of games last year, and took the league by storm. He's got the swagger and cockiness that should befitt a 10-year, 5-ring quadruple MVP, but he undoubtedly has a lot to be proud of. Abdur-Rahiim, meanwhile, is quiet, humble and to some, Tim Duncanly boring. Yet, he can beat you in any way. He can post you up, drive by you, out-maneuvre the shorts out of you, drain the jumper over you, or outpower you. Better yet, he looks smooth doing it. How many players last year averaged 20pts and 10 rebs? A Handful? Now, how many of them were small forwards? The guy has game.

Being early in their respective careers, they still have many weaknesses and a lot to improve on. Carter's defense has been questioned many times, and Abdur-Rahiim has to prove he can be a leader and lead his team to even a .500 record.

So, my BBS bretheren, who's better? 'Reef or Vinsanity?

Although Shareef is one of my absolute favorite players in the league, I have to reluctantly say Vince.

Shareef has loads of talent, a great work ethic, and a positive attitude on the court. He never complains, he just goes out and does his job.

Vince, however, just has so much raw ability that it's scary.

So, I'd put Vince ahead, by a fairly comfortable margin.

I'm with fadeaway. I really like Shareef, but Vince has got serious skills.

"Reef" is better in my opinion. Vancouver is so messed up on the offensive end that reef isn't even the first option on offense. Dickerson jacks it up as soon as he touches the ball. Reef would have big numbers if Grizz coaches would get him the ball more.

Carter on the other hand, is the only offense toronto has now. With McGrady gone, defenses can now double and triple team vince. Lets see how he performs this season. Also his defense is terrible.

Eventhough I think Shareef deserve's more credit and is definately the most underrated player in the NBA, I'd have to go with Carter. This guy is amazing. I'm sorry but that's just the way it is.

Francis out top, 9 seconds on the clock, he gives a no look pass to Cuttino Mobley, 4 seconds left, Mobley passes to an open Langhi in the corner with 1 second left! Langhi at the buzzer.......YES!!! How Sweet It Is!!

I would have to go with Shareef. He is a better overall player than Vince. He can pass better, rebound better, play better d, and is just a better team player. Vince is a much better scorer and has much more potential but I hate his ASS!

'Reef would be perfect for the Rockets. His name even means servent of the most merciful one(Rudy T for not cutting Drew).

To all the Vince supporters in this thread, do you not think there's a very fine line between his hype and over-exposure to his actual value to a team? I realize he's got unbelievable talent, and is not just about dunking. But if you compare him to SAR - and their overall contributions to the team - I have to side with 'Reef by a very slim margin. However, I think by the first few months of this upcoming season, when the Grizz are better and Abdur-Rahiim gets some due because of it, more people will favour "The Future". Perhaps I'm biased in that I'm being suffocated here in the heart of the Vince Carterland, and just sick of some of the unwarranted appraisal he's recieved. His actions in the Olympics has just strengthened my disgust of his overhype.
