We don't tank unless it means getting a certain 7 foot tall center that took the Houston Cougars to three consecutive final fours.
....then you simply offload Harris for spare parts. That's like saying that you shouldn't sign LeBron when you already have Ariza and Battier. There's no way any team passes on John Wall - he's a potential franchise saver. And the Nets are a franchise that desperately needs to be saved.
No question about it, Sam. Any team with the top pick will take Wall. Even Portland! (not that they'll have the chance )
Playoff experience is worth more than tanking experience, you want to root for a $#!++y team that will get a lottery pick, become a NETS fan. Now that we have a proven scorer that can create his own shot, this team will fight for every win in the playoffs, even without Yao we could take the Fakers to 7 games if the playoffs started tomorrow. We match up real well with them, and are one of the fewest teams that can mess with their heads and push them to the limit...and newsflash, we are 16 games ahead of Minnesota, even if we tried to tank, there's no possible way we could be as worse as teams that are already out there, aka Clippers, Sacramento, Golden State, oh, and those teams have stars on their teams, and we don't. If anyone was a huge Rockets fan, then you would kill at the chance to take on our biggest rivalry, I know people think our rivalry is Utah, but the Fakers have been our #1 Rivalry since the Rockets came to Houston.
didn't we have this exact same thread a couple of week ago with the guy "rooting for losses?" We get it...there are "fans" here who think it would be better if we didn't make the playoffs. Thank you for your "thoughtful" analysis. We don't need anymore threads about it.
Okay that's fair, from the guys I mentioned Bradley & Henson probably do have the best chance to fall, given how raw those two players are.....However, do we really want to play a game of chance, Heck, I just want to be in the lottery(secured top 14 pick) not actually win it(despite want my signature may say  ) Second, the 16th pick is a little exaggerated, at best case scenerio if we make the playoffs and the east stay's competitive, the pick will be around 19th(also counting that the west doesn't get as competitive as years past), which does make a difference, keep in mind 1 pick separated Dirk Nowitzki from Bonzi Wells in 1996.... Pretty much this is what it boils down to getting a player like,Hassan Whiteside(All-star potential, with 10th-14th pick) vs. a player like Jan Vesely(19th-20th pick), who does have good potential(great role player, better than Bud), but nothing extraordinarily great.... PS. Can we please stop this name calling people("Not True Fans") for wanting to "tank", and vice versa(OP), its just two different perspectives on how to go about building this team and acquiring assets, thats all.... Spoiler peace out! --RB
My reason for not tanking: Playoff experience > regular season experience Tanking mentality had to kick Lottery Picks don't ALWAYS pan out Rockets Organization reason not to tank: Revenue from Playoff games = extra cash in their pockets (especially if we go against a top seed team).
This team already has playoff experience. They've been to the 2nd round.. Not sure why this idea is so prevalent. NBA players are professional athletes who have had competitive natures their whole lives. If the team's goal is to win, I think the players would easily fall in line with that. No, they don't ALWAYS pan out. But unless its an unusually weak draft class, they OFTEN pan out. And the corollary is that having a high draft pick will also increase revenue throughout the course of the season and should enable us to go deeper into the playoffs (which would lead to more playoff revenue).
I was kind of hoping the OP would at least come back in and defend his position to call out 40,000 of the most rabid Rockets fans on the Internet...
Nice, OP, first you say you want your team to quit in order to exploit the draft system to artificially earn a better pick, then you call out all the real fans. You, sir, are full of fail.
You can never have too much playoff experience. I'd like to see that conversation with Scola. RA: So, Luis, what we're going to try to do is not give 100%. LS: No comprende RA: We're basically trying to lose LS: ... RA: Luis, I know you speak English. Stop playing dumb. LS: Maybe English needs work. What I hear is you saying to lose...on purpose? RA: That's it! So we can win later. LS: So we lose to win? RA: Correct! LS: ...still no comprende. RA:
losing on purpose to get a higher pick is loser speak. thats like failing the 5th grade on purpose so that you can be bigger than the other kids next year. YOU FUKIN PLAY TO WIN, PERIOD, NO IF ANDS OR BUTTS! nobody wants to play for a team that loses on purpose. if i was a pro athlete and i even heard that my teams fans want me to stop trying and lose on purpose, i would be counting the days to my free agency so that i can get the *** out of town. you say we aren't real rocket fans because we want our team to play hard every night, and win as many games as they can? you aren't a rockets fan because you want them to fail on purpose. idiot
We already had a tanking thread a few weeks ago. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=180887&page=1&pp=20 Some of the posters that wanted us to tank were: Peleincubus RocketMania1991 Bobby6186 W22_STREAK I wonder if these posters(I can't call them fans) still want us to tank.
i call them fans, they are just mis-guided by the draft light. I am sure most of these forget Harold Miner.
Horrible comparison. They have nothing in common aside from that Bowie played at UK also. I didn't realize that Bowie had a 2 year gap in his college career.
Of course you can. You have to look at the big picture. Look no further than the Detroit Pistons. From 06-08, they continually advanced to the ECF yet failed to make it to the finals. And in professional sports, maintaining the status quo is never good unless you're winning titles. As a result, Dumars tried to retool. Although this turned out to be a failure, he was correct in his assessment that the 2008 team, as assembled, was incapable of winning a title. No need for any conversations. It would be as simple as reducing Scola's minutes and allocating them to Cook.
