Who followed Hill or knows a lot about him? What are his strengths/weaknesses? I've never seen him play but I was impressed with the few clips they showed of him. He's long, strong and seems to have both an inside game and good shooting touch. Could he end up being one of the best 2 or 3 players out of this draft or is there something about him that I'm unaware of? I'm interested to see what he becomes.
I only saw him play once last year when 'zona took on my Ags in College Station and was very impressed. He has a very nice touch around the rim, quick leaps, long arms, and mobile. He'll probably take a couple of years to find his way though. Weaknesses, I don't think he has much of an outside shot beyond 10 ft and struggles with free throws. The last 6 minutes of the aforementioned game is posted and pretty muchs Jordan Hill. I think you'll like him. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/IuVZ6OErGFg&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/IuVZ6OErGFg&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
^^^ He didn't look very impressive in that clip. From what I saw in the few clips they showed during the draft as well as a workout clip on YouTube, it seemed like he had good shooting form and touch. Apparently, that's not the case. At least, not yet. I was unaware that he is one of those guys that didn't get into basketball until a later age. That means he is behind the development curve but it also means his full potential is somewhat unknown. Guys like Olajuwon and Rodman became superstars despite picking up the game at a late age. Don't get hysterical. I'm not saying he'll reach that level by any means, just that it is possible to have the raw tools and add polish later. He is physically impressive and may be one of those rare players that has enough raw talent/athleticism to develop into a solid player despite being behind the learning curve. He seems to have the tools to be productive at both ends of the court. I don't know anything about his work ethic but that would likely be a huge factor for him given his raw abilities but lack of polish. His range of potential may be wider than with most other picks because of his size/athleticism and room for improvement. My guess is he could end up being anywhere from the biggest bust of the lottery to a very good player, possibly even special.
I'm psyched at the fact that C Bud & J Hill will be reunited once again. Hopefully Chase makes him look as good as he did in Zona when they get more minutes & play more often together.
Saw him here in Houston a few years ago playing against UofH. Hes Big, athletic and can run a bit, but basketball his skills are raw and unpolished. He will need some time to become a solid everyday NBA player, but I like his potential.
Jordan Hill has catlike reflexes and quickness relative to his and in terms of explosiveness is just a notch below a guy like Amare. His biggest strength right now would be on weakside defense where he blocked close to 2 shots/game. He also displayed some nice footwork and a very good touch around the basket. What people outside of Arizona don't know is how MUCH he improved offensively in his 3 years. It was very Carl Landry-esque. People who criticize him based on a couple of highlights are ignorant. If he does stay long term expect him to improve before your eyes too. The Knicks never gave much of a chance, especially since he played behind David Lee
he did improve a lot at UA which is very promising. One thing that i always thought he lacked was a "feel" for the game...or instincts. I think that will just have to come with time though.
He only started organized basketball after his JUNIOR YEAR IN HIGH SCHOOL. That's pretty ridiculous for someone who was drafted top 10. You can ask anyone on the Arizona forum (goazcats.com) and they'll say the same thing. He will INSTANTLY improve our interior defense and rebounding. No more relying on flops on charges by Scola
im really looking forward to him playing. and watching the rockets in general a lot more after this trade. will be watching the knicks for the next few seasons to. would be funny to watch there games and scoreboard watch all year and then have morey give the picks up in a trade. wish i could just ask him so i know if i need to bother.
as long as he can defend the PF's of the west, Dirk, Amare, Boozer, Gasol, Randolph, West, Duncan... i'm satified, we got 2 players with size, and they are a definite luxury to have, i mean we've been playing with a 6'6 hayes at C. that's unheard of.
he will be playing next to Yao and with Brooks and Martin and Shane in the corner he is a prefect fit for this team
Yea, that is a pretty silly statement if you look at it independently from everything else I wrote in that post and try not to get my point. What I was trying to say is that because of him because so raw as a result of picking up the game late, there is a much bigger element of unknown when evaluating his potential. There are some other players that were drafted in the top 10 that I would say certainly won't be full-blown busts. Hill has more potential to be a bust than most of the players drafted around him. His ceiling is also less known because he has so much more room for improvement than a lot of players if he puts in the work. If he was already considered a lottery pick based on his raw physical attributes and the current underdeveloped set of skills he possesses, there is no telling how good he can become. Unfortunately, his work ethic is reportedly an issue. It's hard to turn that kind of weakness into a strength and for someone like Hill, work ethic will probably be the single biggest factor in determining his success at this level.
Sigh.........you're totally wrong man. Like I mentioned before, for those who didn't follow Hill & Arizona closely, they would just assume Hill is an athletic specimen. However, those that DID followed him knows how much he improved between his Sophomore and Junior year. His first two years he was just an athletic 6'11 guy who could block shots. By his Junior year, he surprised everyone with his offensive game, to the point where he was a walking double double machine, with somewhere close to 20 points and 10-11 rebounds a game. That's the reason he blew up towards the end of the year and became a legitimate lottery prospect. So you don't just improve like did without putting in some hard work man.
