Meh. I'd give him another season before labeling him a bust. Maybe he wasn't getting coached up well enough in NY.
Does anyone else remember that Carl Landry had a horrible summer league, and didn't especially standout through the first half of his rookie season either?
Craig Ackerman was on SportRadio 610 a little while ago and said he talked to a lot of people and heard Mike D'Antoni, much like the Van Gundy bros., hates playing rookies.
I agree. Just as I believe that even Curry and Jennings would have struggled in NY this season. It's just a bad situation with an overrated Coach (IMO).
Hahaha- NYPEST is sour grapes! I would give the ROOKIE a couple of yrs before I would consider him a bust! They are still upset we beat them in the Finals!!!
I posted this earlier this season, but in the one Knicks game I went to this season he actually played the whole 4th period. He could definitely run and jump and certainly looked the part, but otherwise looked absolutely clueless on the floor. This assessment seems pretty consistent with that.
If he was so terrible why was Walsh so reluctant to let him go? Wasn't Hill one of the sticking points in the original deal with the Knicks?
This could definitely be true. When he was coaching Phoenix, they had that consistent habit of selling off their 1st rounders for next to nothing. It's always been assumed that they did this because the owner didn't want to pay those contracts, but a contributing factor could be that D'Antoni wasn't going to play then anyway, so they may as well trade the picks.
Ding Ding Ding! The New York media have to be the most over hyped and annoying outlet for sports commentary. Wait till McGrady starts limping in a game. They have NO patience with their athletes. Coming out of the draft Hill was know to have the most UPSIDE not the most NBA ready skills. He was touted as a project big man and big maen need time. New York is not the place to expect time.
Unless youre a LBJ, you have a couple of seasons to prove yourself. I think Rick will coach him well.
You know who else saw very little playing time in his rookie season--AND his SECOND season? Drazen Petrovic. Now he's in the Hall of Fame. *dips head in remembrance of a great player taken from us long before his time*
Sounds like David Andersen in his first few games too. Look how well he's been playing as of late. It takes time to adjust to the NBA game speed and system. Give him time. Also, all we gave up for him was a bag of chips so we have nothing to lose and a whole lot to gain.
Yep. I think D'Antoni had a problem developing young guys in Phoenix too. He's more suited for the Euro style slasher/shooter than coaching big men.
Kind of like The GARM. First time he gets in and misses a shot or a rebound there will be 15 new threads that say stuff like "Jordan Hill is trash" and "Landry >>>>>>> Hill" etc.
Maybe that's the reason why they keep sucking LOL. Anyone who looked at Hill's history should know that it will take for him, bust or not-he started playing bball when he was 15! That was just 7 years ago! Now he's supposed to play in the best league in the world. I won't start judging him until after his first summer camp, and he can go one-on-one with CD.
anyone who tries to compare a special 3rd year player like Landry to a young, new to the game rookie like Hill is just someone with an axe to grind. no need to argue with idiots.
But Carl is workhorse, and from what i've heard of Hill it might not be the case. What shocked me the most during Morey's PC was that he talked about Martin, the Picks THEN Hill.
