Maybe this is a move at this summer's free-agency. I think packaging Martin with Battier could be a good idea to clear up cap space and sign a free-agent while getting a 2010 lottery pick in the mean time.

    Thoughts?

We can still use Shane for one more season. We still need the guy to shed wisdom on Budinger, direct our defense, and share the role of scapegoat with Ariza.

    you're half right.

Martin is a reason we will trade Shane.

Martin's contract is Cheap and not worth trading. He will be our #2 option and a building block.

Shane will now have to go to the bench because Ariza will start at SF.

Shane will be moved more than likely. I say we trade him to a contender for a Pick and expiring.

that will shed salary and get us an asset.

We shall not trade Shane. We shall keep him and re-sign him for a long-term, cheap contract after next season (flat amount, kind of like Landry's).

i say since cook wasnt involved in the trade and the deadline is at 3 i think we still hae a chance to trade cook+shane+thomas for a pf or a center......ill even take dalembert....the we can sign von and mike james wih free spots

Kevin Martin is not a building block....See the last 4 years with TMAC as an example.

I would have Hoped Battier was in this deal for Nocioni, who at least can play effective minutes at PF. Now we are shorter than before.

Now is the time to trade Trevor Ariza for Marcin Gortat.

You have to build around talent and Martin has talent.

who else on this team can efficiently score 48?

I think Martin is considered a building block for the next few years.

We now have 3 good guards, plus Budinger, Ariza, Battier. We can easily trade Ariza or Battier for the right deal.

I mostly agree. Getting Martin means we could trade Shane. My preference would be in a package for a new power forward who can play. But, I'll be happy to keep him too.

But, Martin ain't cheap at $10-$12 million.

You guys are crazy if you think we should trade Battier. Glad you're not the GM. Battier is sorely needed to guard someone like Kobe and Lebron.

Now i know you're just trying to justify this trade because our own GM did it. If this had been any other team, you would've laughed at them. For impartial opinions i like to find out what the other teams think and for the most part its not pretty. Now to what your saying..

Building around talent? Tracy Mcgrady had talent. Tracy Mcgrady could efficiently score 48. Your point?

Yeah I don't think Martin was acquired with the idea of trading him, I mean sure it could happen but it would have to be some unpassupable (strangely not in Webster's dictionary but it is in the Urban dictionary, I guess that's the kind of word those urban kids are using nowadays...foshizzle) deal. If he was acquired with the idea of trading him they probably would have traded Landry for that person, but I could be wrong...

    Key word: "had"

Are people mad b/c this takes our chance to get a Bosh/DWade? I guess we could've waited until we drafted a potential LeBron? Morey and Adelman coveted Kevin Martin. This is exactly what they wanted.
