Frankly, I'm kind of surprised how many people here seem to be experts on Kevin Martin's game. We have tons of people running their mouths about how stupid Morey is for giving up Landry for "a guy with no playmaking skills," "is nothing but a scorer," and "is one dimensional." On the other hand, we've got a smaller amount of people that seem to think it's a great deal for the Rockets. I tend to think that most people on here are merely looking at his statline and running their mouths because it makes them feel important. I will admit that I'm disappointed we're giving up Landry. Martin's injury history is also a bit alarming. On the other hand, I admit that I wanted Big Baby over Landry, thought Aaron Brooks was too short, and wanted to know why we traded for a PG that couldn't start in Memphis. I also know that Sacramento has had very few national television appearances over the past few years. Which is why I'm so surprised that there are this many apparent Kevin Martin experts. Between the injuries and lack of national television exposure, I can't say I'm familiar with the Martin's game at all. Furthermore, even if you have league pass, are that many people tuning in to see the Sacramento Kings? So, how much have you seen Kevin Martin play?
I've watched him light up teams for years. He pisses teams off because he finds a way to get contact and get the whistle. He'll drop 40 5 times a year at least.
I live in California so I have actually seen a few of his games. Though I'll admit I'm no expert on him, since I'm not that into the Kings. Will KMart play Saturday????
Not nearly enough to feel 100% comfortable yet. Gotta see him suit up in a Rox uniform before I can fully decide on how I feel about the whole thing. Will def miss Landry's toughness out there.
I personally think Kevin is a good player. Very efficient and definitely will make the motion offense look better since he actually moves well without the ball. However, I hate the deal because Martin's injury history is alarming. He hasn't stayed healthy the past couple of seasons and considering the build of his body it just doesn't seem like he will stay healthy the following seasons. I personally hate giving up Carl, but being the realistic person that I am, we have to give up talent to get talent. This was definitely our one chance to get a good swingman that would help the Rockets a lot since realistically we aren't going to get one through free agency or a trade in the summer. I definitely like the trade, but at the same time I hate it. Perhaps this has to do with me loving Carl as a person as a player and disliking Martin's fragileness. Oh well, it definitely will help the Rockets and give us some much needed help in that starting line up, and most importantly the end of BATTRIZA!!!
Alot Although I like the trade because of all of the expirings that the Rox have on their roster next year and how Martin will fit with yao next year. The Brooks/Martin backcourt may be the worst backcourt defensively in the NBA. The good thing is the Rox added a true scorer and shooter that should avg 20ppg almost immediately.
I'll admit I do hate to see Mandry leave but I don't hate the trade that we currently have in place. I know this could become a 3 or even 4 team deal before the deadline but I do like the fact that we'll be getting a relatively young (not the youngest but not the oldest) SG to play in Rick Adelman's perfect for Martin's abilities motion offense. I have not seen Martin play many games besides the games against us but I do like the fact that he is a true SG with a small frame but pretty good size for his position. I do also love the fact that this guy can get to the line, as you stated. He is a pure scorer that can play well with Yao in my eyes with spreading the floor and hitting the open shot. Something for him to work on from what I've seen is his D, but if you're dropping 25+ a game on teams I've seen that we've given passes to Tracy and others that haven't played a lick of D at times. So why not Martin? Overall, I like this trade but don't see it being over. If we keep Sergio he would be a sleeper steal in my mind, at least on this team. How exciting.
I've seen him play some. But like it was said here, I'm no expert on his game. Unless we watch games daily with players that who aren't Rockets, we really don't know a ton. I know this much: he draws contact like bounty paper towels absorbs liquid. Dead eye shooter from mid range and the 3. Gets to the free throw line a ton. It was a game vs. Golden St. where he shot only 9-20 and still scored 40, because he got to the line so much. I like this deal a ton. Hate to lose Landry, but Martin is an awesome get.
I also have a love/hate relationship with the proposed trade, for much the same reason... As far as KMart goes, I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination. I have watched him a handful of times and it seems like he can be a top 10 talent offensively. He can shoot the 3 as a spot-up shooter, or off a screen, and I think he can improve his percentage to a steady 40-43%. He also likes driving it into the lane and, for someone with such a thin frame, can absorb contact pretty well. He gets to the line a sizable chunk of the time, and hits it at a great clip. I think he can be a better passer than he was in Sacto; I think he just wasn't surrounded by teammates he trusted and when they finally got a team around him, he was ... unused to them or unwilling to give up the reins as the lead dog (don't think that'll be a problem here). However, he is a defensive liability. BUT one thing about him that I think is overlooked is he's pretty good at playing the passing lanes. With Yao in the paint, I think his defensive deficiencies will diminish (hopefully) and he'll be more active in trying for steals. He's actually a decent on-ball defender, but he can get posted up fairly easily. He also seems lackadaisical on the defensive side and doesn't keep his eye on his man when he doesn't have the ball. But, hopefully, instilling a new attitude in him here in Houston will boost his defensive awareness. Overall, I think Martin is a good player and a potential top 20-25 player in the league today IF healthy. Unfortunately, it's the IF I'm worried about...
you've got it wrong. right: his team wins 5 of the 40 games he's playing each year. or: he plays 40 games and has 5 major inuries each year.
No, Your just being a smart ass. Is it his fault his GM doesn't surround him with good players. This is not Allen Iverson.

Never seen too much of him (except for the occasional ESPN mention) but alls I know is that the guy has already missed 32 games this year. Missed an average of 26 games the two seasons prior.
I've seen quite a few Kings' games this season and last so a lot of my knowledge comes from last year. I LOVE the trade but Martin's injury issues do concern me which is why I was torn before the deal. The guy can score no doubt and will be an ideal fit with Yao, much better the Iggy or Butler would have been. He plays little to no "D" and isn't the playmaker TMAC was in his day but the guy can SCORE better then Tiger lol.
This guy has mid range, and 3 point. He can also post up since he is 6.7. He is great free throw shooter. He has no d, only reason i know this is because i thought this guy had one of the weirdest shooting form since marion. But he is efficient for sure
