Focusing only on what Martin is doing this year is a bit unfair. His injuries are not of the type that are chronic, like knee, or back injuries. For most of his NBA career has been an elite scoring two guard. Landry, for all of the spark he has shown off the bench, is not on his level. The cupboard is not bare at the 4 position for the Rockets, either. Hell, Anderson may be better suited to that position anyway.

The difference that efficient outside scoring makes to the Rockets should not be discounted. Ultimately, Morey is counting on Yao coming back as a force. Martin is the kind of player that would thrive under Yao alongside our speedy point guards. The sheer volume of free throws we could be shooting next year is nothing to sniff at. I think the main beneficiary of this is Ariza. I think he will thrive just by the reduction of his workload on offense (and we will all be thankful for that).

read what aldridge wrote: hill would remain in the package. and the latest before the kings trade broke was that both sides couldn't agree on the protection of the picks. morey wanted all picks unprotected.

so the knicks would offer the kings the same package they offer us, with pick protection.

true. let's hope he resumes his play two years ago. the kmart of this year is definitely not very good, but that could be him being jealous of tyreke evans. so i definitely think he'll play much better with us.

but when morey talked about that superstar playmaker/player, martin wasn't who i had in mind. hopefully he still has his sights on chris bosh this offseason

Hill was always in the package. That BS that Walsh said was him and Morey's staring match.

PHX said "Amar'e is not being traded..." about 5x the past season or so, it means nothing really.

I find it difficult for anyone to love/hate this trade at this point (other than from an emotional standpoint) when
    1) The EXACT details are still unknown
    2) It's IMPOSSIBLE to know for CERTAIN how this new Rockets team will play this year and next year and how good/bad Martin and Landry will be.

Emotionally, I would hate for Landry to be gone because he was young, a hard worker, almost got murdered, had a great attitude, and was a very efficient scorer.

But Kevin Martin IS also an efficient scorer and a better 3 pt shooter than Iguodala and Caron Butler. Among those 3 different talents, KMart was probably the best fit for the Rockets. If Ariza is in the long-term plans as all indications point to, it would be a very difficult limitation to overcome if the other starting wing was not a talented offensive shooter.

BTW offensive efficiency to me means: points per shot, fouls drawn, offensive rebounds, assists/to ratio.

Your right but Landry could have been a prolific player in any run for championships. He was great in the playoffs but Kmart will bring us one step closer to actually being a legit contender. Just one more piece for it to be complete.

Let's see what happens. But Current Rockets + unproven Hill + protected lottery pick in 2012 is not a contender. With Kmart and another MLE player, they might be.

Two things that really piss me off that Morey allowed this trade:

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_y...?slug=ys-kingstrade021710&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

Morey didn’t have an easy time parting with Landry, a rugged, undersized forward who had come to personify the grit of these Rockets. Yet, the chance to secure a young, talented scorer (forgot injury prone) for his offensively challenged roster was too much to pass up.

Martin’s addition comes with a price: He will make $46 million over the next three seasons. Martin, 27, also has missed at least 20 games in each of the past three seasons, including 32 this season because of a broken wrist.

So many deals he passed up and he ended up with this. I think he was desperate to pull something.

Must of had some She-Mac voodoo going on in his head.

Some of yall are looking at this all wrong. Sacramento isnt sending TMac to the Knicks if there is a three way, we are. We currently have an agreement in place in case we cant get a 3way that everyone is happy with. That doesnt mean Sactown already can say this is what we want for TMac fo he doesnt belong to them yet. If NY is still open to talks and wants TMac I would think TMac in NY and Martin in Houston would be the starting point of all talks and everyone else is up in the air.

2 picks actually. imagine morey using those picks and dangling landry out there to the raptors or suns.

obviously if yao comes back 80% of himself, with KMART, that's a 50+ win team. but that's it.

but we will see. if kmart returns to his 25ppg on 45-46% fg, 40% 3s, 10+ fta and stay healthy, then we will see.

i still say the kings are the big winners in all this, coming in the damn last minute and just getting whatever they want from us (and most likely the knicks as it appears).

I wonder if Morey still has a rabbit in his hat, and leverages Kenny Thomas' expiring contract for another player? That might make this a better deal.

Wow. I woke up out of a dead sleep with an ominous feeling. I couldn't go back to sleep, something that rarely happens, so I jumped online.... To find that the rox traded my favorite current rocket, landry. Ugh.

Morey, you'd better have something up your sleeve or kmart had better have some kind of different gear.

The Kings, if they deal She-Mac to the Knicks, in the end are going to end up with:

    1) Landry
    2) Rookie prospect Hill (maybe)
    3) expiring contracts
    4) and draft picks (most likely protected)

Morey really f'ed up his chances of a great deal.

My initial reaction is, I don't like it. I think K-Mart is worth only a little more than Landry. Maybe T-Mac and another asset (Ariza? Battier? Lowry? Hayes? Any 2 of these? Maybe 3?) would have been worth K-Mart.

I feel like NY's offer, even if they were going to offer less, would have been better. I do see two benefits to this deal, though: 1) we aren't taking back any bad contracts, and 2) the Knicks don't get Tracy without paying to get him. If Sac buys him out, though, forget about 2).

I wonder if we can trade Kenny Thomas' contract for Jefferies and the picks? We definitely have stuff we can send out on Thursday, though.

I'll have to sleep on this, but I'm not happy right now.

Man, I can't believe we are getting Kenny Thomas back. He was good when he was with us, but he has been rotting out in Sacramento. Other than his contract, what can he contribute to our squad?

    exactly.

those expiring contracts -> about $15 mil in cap-space for them to sign another impact player.

and they already have a budding perimeter superstar in evans. gotta give props to petrie if he does trade tmac to the knicks for that package.

Well, this guy tweeted giving DM praise:

Jonathan Givony: Shocked Kings couldn't force Houston to take one of their albatross contracts(Nocioni,Udrih,Garcia) for Kevin Martin. All hail Daryl Morey

I Thought players can't be traded the same day their acquired...so how can the Kings trade for TMac tommorow and then trade him again??? It has to be a 3 way deal.
