I believe the key to our future is Cato. Not because he could be the center of the future but because he has taken so much cap room that if he does not pan out we are stuck with the contract. If he plays well, he can be the key in acquiring "star" talent but he will never be better than just a good player.(no heart) Championships these days will go thru L.A. We need a big man or a superstar guard. I would gather a bunch of good players. Find out if anybody on this team can be a third option, the third "star" on this team(Cat or Shandon might be.) Next year will be the year when we get that star by trading a bunch good players for a "star." Until then we really do not have enough to negotiate. I just hope that Cato does not ruin the future. These are the possible options. I) Play it safe and get rid of Cato's contract by trading him for a good player or some sort of draft pick. or II) Gamble on CD's ability to teach and hope Cato gets better and then trade him next year. **** assumption that Cato has no heart and he will never be better than a good player. Next, I) Gather a bunch of "good" players via exemptions, trades, or draft picks. II) Find out which will be good complimentary players. These players are more valuable because of their personalities and not their physical skills.(Mario Elie types- lionhearts that have killer instincts.) Keep these guys. Francis has potential to be a "star." We have a third option but we need to figure out who it is. We trade the remaining players for a "star". (CATO or whoever we trade for, Cat or Shandon, Walt, KT, and free agents that we acquire for a "star" that I have posted in the title.) Allow the team to gel together and add the final pieces via FA or drafts. It is not immediate results but we will have a contender within two years. This is assuming the team does not move and Francis does not get any serious injuries. ------------------ Fuggetabout it
