I know it would be almost impossible to acquire Jalen Rose from Indiana through a sign-and-trade, but I believe he would be perfect on the Rockets. He can do everything that you ask of him and he can play three positions---PG, SG, and SF. He will demand big money, but he would be a good investment if acquireable. Both Houston and Indiana have trade exceptions so maybe something could be worked out if he were to decide he liked Houston's situation. Not likely, but intriguing. ------------------
I like Jalen Rose! I think he could fit here, although I don't know if there would be enough shots for Mobley, Francis & Rose. I like the idea of point forwards and I think that could help Francis mature by taking some of the ball handling skills away from him. I like Rose, but I think he is the cornerstone of Indiana future, so I doubt we could get him w/out giving up Franchise or gut our team of any depth we may have. ------------------
While he is a great player, Jalen basically duplicates what we already have - Shandon Anderson. Frankly, Shandon is younger with more upside (in my humble opinion). As far as ball handling goes, no one other than Fracis will see much time at PG ------------------
B-ball: I think Rose's ceilng is much higher than Shandon. Don't get me wrong I like Shandon. He is a good defender and sometimes an effective offensive player. Rose on the other hand is a stud on offense. Also is Shandon younger than Jalen? If he is he's not much. Jalen left Michigan early and is still new to the NBA. I think Rose is a going to be a perennial all-star for many years, while Shandon will be a great player, I don't see him as having the potential of Rose. ------------------
I also agree that Jalen wouldn't fit because of his offense. The Rockets already have their shooters, adding another would hurt more than help. Shan Shan does resemble Jalen in a lot of aspects though. Especially their ability to play complementary and leadership ball. ------------------ I AM SPARTACUS
Shandon Anderson and Jalen Rose aren't even close to similar. Shandon is a great defender, and a guy who will give you decent shooting and lots of hustle. He also plays within the team concept. Rose, on the other hand, is a star. He plays 1 on 1 basketball a lot, can shoot as well or better than Shandon, dribbles much better, etc. Shandon cannot stare Kobe Bryant in the face, dribble a few steps, crossover, and drain the shot for example. He just doesn't have that natural offensive talent that makes the great players great. Jalen does. Jalen can be a superstar, while Shandon can't. There is no way Shandon has more upside than Rose. ------------------ Cheaters never win. Unless you play for LA that is.
By the way, Jalen Rose is 27 years old and Shandon 26. Not a big difference there. ------------------ Cheaters never win. Unless you play for LA that is.
The Cat What I meant by the fact that they are similar is that they both are athletic, shooters, with strong defensive games. Jalen and Shan also play complementary roles, Rose to Reggie and Shan to Stevie. Jalen basically shares the offense with Reggie now but will always be the second option. Shan is just that of a complementary player to Stevie. Jalens offense is obviously better that Shans. Shandon though can take people off the dribble and shoot. ------------------ I AM SPARTACUS
Jalen Rose? Yea, right. What for? Does Jalen Rose show ANY effort on the defensive side of the ball? Whats the point of staring down Kobe and hitting a shot when Kobe will come and drain it right back in his eye? We already got an older version of Jalen named Walt. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Almu (edited June 14, 2000).]
Almu- I disagree, I think Rose will be great in the next 2 years. He has great skills and the best thing is he isn't afraid to take the tough shot, although it usually still goes to Reggie. Also if we're so concerned with defense does that mean Francis is the next to go? I'm kidding but Francis expends alot more energy on offense than defense as well, as does Mobley. ------------------
Rose IMO is a more reliable option than Miller, and is a better player. I doubt you can say that comparing Shandon to Steve. Rose has decent defense, but offensively he has superstar potential. He is a 6'8 player with the versatility and speed to play 3 positions, not to mention having a great shot, being a great one on one player, etc. I think Rose will be a future superstar, and maybe it's just me but any comparisons to Shandon or Walt are very far off. ------------------ Cheaters never win. Unless you play for LA that is.
Actually, Rose is a very good defensive player. He typically is assigned to guard the oppositions toughest player, with the exception of centers. He has done well with Kobe in the past (as well as anybody can do). ------------------ HOOP-T Hey Shaq, Acme called, and they want their bricks back!
I think you are underestimting Shandon's worth. Rose had to score every game. Shandon did not. Shandon is willing to sacrifice for his team more than most players. Shandon would at least put effort into stopping Kobe. When I said they were similar, I meant that they were similarly sized swing men - small 3's/big 2's. I love Rose but we should concentrate on a big body that can post and bang. Rose has developed steadily and has been a winner but Shandon has also lost in the finals (one more than Rose will) and Mobley is probably the fastest developing player in the league. I think he serves no purpose to us, barring trades that is. ------------------
Plus, I am still angry at Rose for undercutting Elie and breaking his wrist. Elie was never the same after that. ------------------
