As lucrative as it sounds could Yao end up in the same situation as Mcgrady currently is in.

Yao will be an expiring contract next year worth a nice chunk of money.
The big deciding question in this factor is can he play or can he not.

If Yao is unable to perform next season would the Rockets possibly think about shipping him off similar to what they are doing with Mcgrady ?

Although the 2011 free agency market isn't anything close to 2010 i'm sure some teams will still be willing to get some salary relief.

I think it's very realistic that the same talks we are hearing involving Iguodala could become a factor this time next year.

So many people say how big of a cash cow is etc, but the Rockets are always looking for whats best for the organization and if they have to ship off a player to improve then so be it.

There is no way in hell Les lets Yao leaves the city of Houston. No ifs ands or buts about it.

    Basic Economics.

NEVER move a man who brings in 100x his salary in revenue no matter the players ability. Yao is he until he retires or dies, whichever comes first.

What's best for the organization is usually making money. So no, I don't think Yao would be in the same situation.

Yao didn't quit on this team and announce to Stephen A Smith that he was getting a surgery that the team had not confirmed yet

This goes beyond being injury prone

The key difference between Yao and McGrady is that Yao is a cash cow.

Even if he can never stay healthy......a trait he shares with McGrady.....he brings alot of money in.

No trades for him unless its for somebody like LeTravel.

the only way this happens is if he seriously re-injures himself. Otherwise he will be a Rocket for the rest of his career, hopefully at a discounted price.

Given the recession and all that crap going on in the economy, sponsorship form u.s. companies is hard to come by these days. At least Les has numerous Chinese sponsorships to help offset that. Not by much, but enough to make an impact... Even if Yao can't play anymore, Les will have him be involved with the Rockets organization one way or the other, just for the Chinese ties... Yao will not be traded... Les won't allow it.

Say goodbye to all those rotating Chinese billboards at the game at ~600K a year.

I can't believe so many people still talk about how Yao's purpose it to bring in money like thats all he does. Honestly, what player's purpose ISN'T to bring in money for the team.

The key difference between Yao and TMac's situations is the attitude - the attitude of play and practice, the attitude to handle the injury and attitude to work hard to rehab.
Why so much people here do not understand this?

If the nets don't get who they think they can get and have all that cap space, i wonder if they would trade us lopez for yao? They could pair up Yao and Yi along with cdr, harris, lee, and the lotto pick this year. Yao and yi would be enough to sell tickets and get to .500 which is good by their standards.

Hopefully the organization doesn't pull another Olajuwon style move late in Yao's career, but yea, he's here to stay.

    The difference:

Tmac situation: the rockets are in control.

Yao situation: Yao will be in control.
