Oh, yeah. Forgot to mention. As long as that is AFTER the 2011-12, I could give a crap! Lotto!!! Lotto!!!
If the Rox take on a player that doesn't expire this year, aside from Hill, who has a cheap contract, they will not be under the cap in the near future. If they take Salmons or Jefferies, then renounce Scola, they still really don't have any cap space. They may as well just get used to using the MLE to get one good FA per year. Of course, this depends on future moves... Jefferies and Salmons expire one year from now, though the best use of their contracts will probably be in deals a year from now, not to trade them now for contracts that expire this summer.
Chicago is a playoff team this year and will continue to be one for the next few years. Maybe not a championship contender (though you never know with their nucleus of Rose/Deng/Noah), but with that team you have consider them at least a No. 4-6 EC team for the next few years. New York is bad this year, will have only 4-5 signed players going into this off-season (if this deal goes through), all of whom are really young and "potentially" good players. I really think people are overselling how much Wade, Bosh, or Lebron would want to go there to those 4-5 players. Even if they get one of them, they have to sign a lot more players to fill out the roster with limited cap space left which means scrubs. More than likely they will not get one of the big stars, but get some 3rd-4th Tier stars/starters like maybe Rudy Gay, Boozer, Jermaine O'neal, or Hakim Warrick. Even with one of those players they would likely be fighting to get a playoff spot rather in the playoff seeding discussion.
Tyrus Thomas, yes is > than hill..but he's also expiring after this season. Miller as you said is expiring. At most they're only going to help this season..its like short short term. Doesn't even help us in 2011 when we're in "win now" mode with yao. The 1st rounder is besides the point. people are only picking the chicago trade because of the help the rockets will be recieving THIS season. If you took out the 1st rounder....they would probably still choose chicago's.
The best answer is, he turned a crappy cap space problem into one where he will almost have enough to sign two max FAs, in very few years.
I would not do the deal AT ALL if that 1st round pick is excluded. Thomas could potentially net us a better player in a sign and trade this off-season (Bosh). Thomas might even re-sign with us straight up.
I mean they're .500 right now. Add wade and boozer and thats a mid 50 win team with good health. Get rid of vinny and it might go up even higher. I like the way they have kept their good players like deng, noah, drafted rose, and will be able to go after wade. If they could've traded kirk, they would really be in business. Notonly that, the ablity to absorb a contract is underrated.
I like this deal with draft picks scattered around somehow. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yjymerh
At this point I'm really hoping for this trade by the end of today... Tyrus Thomas Brad Miller Jerome James CHI 2010 1st rd pick leaving us enough time to trade Battier..... --RB
im the only one that doesnt like both deals. we are taking back MORE salary in salmons or jefferies(both whom suck) we need to SHED salary not add more. package either ariza or battier to clear space and send them to someplace and add OUR draft pick and get back some good players. for example: since we cant sign wade or lebron, cap space is useless, however its good to resign our players. 2012 draft picks wont blossum till yrs after. Most rookies take yrs to develop. yao will be done by then. i understand rebuilding for the future, but damn, that means rocket org has given up on yao. why not bring in amare and richardson before yao is retired? your deals you are seeing are USELESS. a 2012 pick and hill is a joke. You cant win a championship with role players. You need atleast 2 allstars. last time I checked amare/yao = 2 allstars
if some of you have a hard-on for the NY or bulls deal, how bout this tmac/cook/dorsey for hill ny's 2011 swap ,2012,2010 2nd rounder then package landry, battier, filler for amare. Suns seem desperate to get beasley for amare, how many of you think beasley> landry? I thought so. We all know landry is better than beasley surely kerr cant be that dumb to take beasley over landry+ battier
You confuse me. If we get Jeffries or Salmons/Thomas, we can still re-sign Lowry/Scola and be under the LT. They don't really hurt that situation. We won't be able to clear enough cap space for a high-profile free agent unless we have a fire sale (like, EVERYONE), which we never will. So... what's the point in clearing up more cap space? If we're over the cap, but under the LT, we'll have an MLE to play with but that's about how much we'd have if we just let McGrady expire anyway.
No offense to Stevierebel, however I highly doubt he is privvy to Amare S's true intentions. Kindly note that besides Amare S and his agent Mr. Happy, nobody likely holds that particular insight.
If we take that Knicks deal we better be doing something else that we don't even know is being talked about yet. Possibly trading the picks and Hill/Jeffries for Amar'e, Al Jefferson, Ellis, etc.
