If Chicago is offering their 2010 1st round pick, then it really makes the deal attractive because the pick should be around the same area as the rockets pick, giving Morey the ability to package both those picks to a team in the lottery looking for multiple players in this strong draft.
If there is a single (reputable) reporter saying that the Knicks have better than a 50% shot at Lebron (over Cleveland, Chicago, Miami, New Jersey or anywhere else), I'd like to know. You see, the thing about PROBABILITIES (reference to which I made in my opening line) is that they are not known quantities. Sorry I could not look into my crystal ball and tell you the future with absolute certainty.
I dont get it! whats teh fanscination with tyrus thomas? is he even that good? yeah hes a highlight package reel for 30 seconds and the next 40 minutes hes about as good as rafer alston on steroids ;D
You can trade them, you just can't trade them with another player. I'd say that Scola and Battier are the most likely to be traded, followed by prospects and picks.
Go ask the Spurs and Nuggets, both teams want him and I don't know if any of those franchises knows how to evaluate a basketball.
If the Knicks agree to make the picks completely unprotected (not likely), the Knicks deal, hands down. If the Knicks agree to only limited protection on the 2012 pick (and, again, I don't understand how they can get any protection on the 2011 pick SWAP), then most likely the Knicks deal. If the Knicks want an unreasonable amount of protection on the picks, and if Chicago is offering a solid mid-first rounder, then probably Chicago's deal. If the Bulls/Rockets have a third team involved that will give up multiple picks to the Rockets for Thomas, then Chicago's deal.
yes in that sense the chicago pick is very attactive. however we already have our own LOTTERY pick this season which should be already plenty for our needs. We can't develop a Durant and a Oden at the same time lol. new york is giving us their 2010 second rounder too so that would definitely be in the 30-40 range and thats just as good as a late first rounder in a lot of ways. chicago is giving us nothing after this year other than their pick and tahts far too little for mcgrady. new york however is giving us their 2012 picK! thats potentially a top 10 pick. tahts where the money lies. if chicago includes their 2012 pick, then great. we'll take the chicago deal AND take on salmons. miller and thomas are as good as mike james to us right now. its all about the picks
chicago only helps a little in the short term. you really think brad miller and john salmons will help make the playoffs? or that tyrus thomas will earn minutes over scolandry? plus any picks they give us will NOT be lotto picks as they are a young playoff team. at this point i'd rather the rockets get a lotto pick than be knocked out in the first round again. there is more value long term with the knicks offer.
I say we take the chicago deal. The rockets coaches will be able to control Tyrus Thomas. If the the coaches can develop him well like they have with Landry and Scola, I believe they can develop Thomas true potential.
I liked the originally proposed NY deal quite a bit: Hill, Jeffries, 2010 2nd round pick, swapping 2011 first round pick, 2012 first round pick. The Chicago deal will help immediately, and I'm sure Adelman prefers it, but it is less clear what is gained long term. How much does it take to resign Thomas? Both he and Scola are RFA, and it seems unlikely the Rockets would keep both. I don't know how that situation would be resolved. Salmons seems like a nice pickup to me ... 5 million for a solid offensive player that is familiar with Adelman. He may be comparable to Caron Butler, actually. WHat sort of draft pick(s) would we get in the Chicago deal? To me, that's the determining factor.
You make good points but thomas could play small forward from time to time, probably Center, we would be more versatile i believe.
that is my point...NOONE exactly knows...it doesnt even freakin matter if any "reputable" reporter says so..LBJ could well have already made his mind on signing with the knicks and noone but himself would know.. but i'm not the one trying to throw "probabilities" out there as FACT and proof as to why NY will suck next year, am i?
exactly. this chron article makes you think that the ability to sign brad miller for cheap this summer (which we can do anyway since he's a free agent) is more valuable than the knicks lotto picks? gimme a break. making the playoffs this season isn't that important. we're gonna be knocked out of the first round again, and thats IF brad miller, tyrus thomas, and john salmons manage to get us there.
