Morey hasn't played any highschool ball. Why would Les Alexander hire Morey instead of somebody who has played high school basketball and has so much basketball knowledge? It should have been you.

Im clueless on why some of you have so much faith in morey. Hill is NOT a impact player at this point. we already have scola/landry and hayes for rebounding & defensive purposes. do we really need ANOTHER hustle player who cant score? We need OFFENSE!!! If we gotta give up one of our core players then so be it

to be fair he only plays for 20 minutes today. Chuck Hayes played 19 minutes today and got 6 points. Besides we get a couple of picks for the trade. I think it is a fair trade at the very least.

The fact is you cant really tell from this rookie season if he is or not. Plus the main part of that deal IMO is that two first rounders.

Thank you. That is my point. I love the team as already assembled, but we need a real offensive threat night in and night out. I mean 25 per game +.We also need size at Center. And dont say Yao since we have NO idea how much of an impact he will have once he gets back....

So, to those talking about how Jordan Hill will be a bust:

You don't know that for certain, and even if he is, what do we lose? We lose...
    McGrady -LOL

Dorsey - Say what you want about Hill, but he gets minutes (and if you're complaining 'But Hill can't good minutes on a bad team like the Knicks,' the exact same complaint was made about obtaining Lowry) and was a lottery pick. There is zero reason to think Dorsey will be a better prospect.

We take back Jeffries's contract - Bima, if I'm correct, has shown that this isn't a big problem for us and he can be an asset long-term when he becomes an expiring (one problem is that people think Jeffries is a scrub and he's not - he's like a somewhat worst Chuck Hayes. Not remotely worth 7 million, but not Brian Cook.)

So yeah, maybe Hill becomes no one, maybe he doesn't. But as we don't lose anything significant, who cares?

I have been coming to this board for about 8 years, I used to have another username but I don't post alot. I lurk for at least 2-3 hours a day, but with what is going on now, I felt the need to post.

Im not really appreciating this potential trade as much as some of you, I am not being negative but I really don't understand how this helps us within the next 2 years?

    A. Picking up Jarred Jeffries contract next year, undoubtedly take us out of picking up anything other than maybe a minor role player in the offseason this year after signing Scola/Lowry

    B. We are stock piled on big men and either they are "in our future plans" or do not have much trade value- Yao/Landry/Hayes/Hill- "in our plans"/ Scola-FA or added to the glut of big men, where Hill will end up with absolutely no playing time/ or Andersen/Jeffries- negative value

    C. The 2012 pick (which isn't even a sure deal yet) is going to be late to be part of a ______ + Yao tandem because Yao will either be gone or already in his decline. Also, if NY gets to build the team Walsh wants to build that pick is going to end up being at least 22nd or higher, Luther Head type value?

    D. The rights to swap 2011 pick, with the direction we are heading in, our pick is going to be better than theirs.

    E. Letting T-Mac, expire and then allowing him a buyout just makes so much more sense. You don't make yourself look bad by , screwing Mac . The only reason this matter is for targeting future FA's. You also, allow yourself salary cap flexibility in the offseason

    F. FINANCIAL! This pisses me off that the Rox, are making a move based on finances, after all year they told us they would be "buyers" and the economy has not effected us the way other franchises have been effected. The Rockets are making money this season with a lack-luster crew out there. We are currently 2 and some change over the LT. So we are looking at roughly 5 million in total money over the salary cap. T-Macs contract is covered 80% by the insurance correct (due to missing 41 consecutive games, and not playing in 41 consecutive games in his brief comeback) 23,0000 x 80% = 18,400,000 in money covered by insurance. So realistically the team is actually paying around 13 million less than the LT. (AND have already collected around 9m from insurance on McGradys contract (( 18,400,000 / 82 x 52 games played ))

So with this deal we save around 5 million in actual cold hard salary this year

We save 2.5m in LT $$

We save 4 m in tax shares paid to teams under the cap.

So we are talking about this deal saving the team @ 11.5 m this year, while costing us @ 6.9m in Jeffries contract this year...
As opposed to just holding onto T-Mac, buying him out (still owed @ 8m for remainder of season ) for around 6m. Paying the 2.5 m in LT, which with T-Macs buyout only puts you about .5 million more than the salary cap in actual $$ spent. And not paying Jeffries 6.9m in salary next year. And being able to obtain some decent FA's in the offseason, probably not All Stars, but the pieces it might take to build around an All Star, which you could later acquire when Yao's contract expires, or in a deadline deal next year with Shanes expiring contract + fillers.

I really am not trying to be negative, I just don't see how adding some picks that have VERY uncertain value + Jordan Hill who has shown me absolutely no reason why he should be the center piece of ANY trade so far. Helps this team, especially while Yao is in his prime.

    ---pfft, Frustration is setting in.

    We need DEFENSE!

Look at the 1st half, it's absolutely pathetic, all baskets are down the rim. Sheldon Cooper is more intimidating than our big men. That's why Hill will be a great plus, and that's why I would trade NOW any of a our PF's only to get him. Yep. Oh, and that's why he's an 8th pick, while Scola-Landry are 2nd rounders. But you'll understand that in a few years... Fortunately Morey already does.

Give him time with the Vipers.. let him get his feet wet.. let his hair down.. he's been on the end of the bench doing nothing.. you expect him to be amazing when Knicks aren't even nurturing him as a player.. Knicks never want to do the work.. they just expect high draft picks to be great.. that isn't always the case..

If he doesn't have an attitude and a hard worker I fully expect the rockets to un-earth a gem.

It's not just about his shooting, he hasn't learned fundamentals. He looked like a deer in headlights out there. It's a stretch to see him as an NBA starter so do you really take a chance on him and jepordize your chances in FA this off season, that number 1 is nice but it's in 2012. I hope Morey had a chance to see the game, might want to call it off if he's like most of us.

Good post. You should post more. Even though I do disagree with most of it. Still, better than most posters on here when they disagree with something.

Umm....I question your ability to understand the difference between the subject of 'statistics' and the subject of 'basketball'.

Which in turn makes me just question your knowledge, period.

I don't think you can compare Dorsey to Hill. Dorsey reminds me of a young Ben Wallace type who rebounds and blocks shots while Hill reminds me of Mikki Moore, and I'm not saying that just because of the dreadlocks either. Ive seen him play in the preseason and all he does is shoot jumpers, he doesn't seem to have a post game at all. He looks hinda frail if you ask me.

Of course you can. The problem is people are trying to claim the issue decided. I mean, if that is the case, then maybe we should forfeit all future draft picks, on the grounds that they could be busts. And maybe we shouldn't allow Yao Ming back on the floor next year, since there's a chance that he could hurt is foot again.

Hill has the natural tools required of a good player. He also appears to be coachable and has displayed a good work ethic. In a world where nothing is certain, Hill seems to be pretty well aligned to develop a game as part of normal rookie progression.

But absolutely he could be a bust. So could any other player we trade for. Jamison is getting old. We could end up paying him $15 mil for Glen Rice type production. Iguodala relies on athleticism. Maybe he tears his ACL and is never any good again. Any of these things could happen. The only difference is that in the case of Hill, we won't be on the hook for a cap-killing contract if the worst case scenario happens.
