Today on the local sports station, I heard that Marcus Camby will be attending a "big man camp" up here in Syracuse. Scheduled to show up is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Walton, and top assistant coaches. The point of the 4 week camp is to help Marcus develop low posts moves and one "go to" move. Also, he will be given nutrition advice and a weightlifting regimen. They believe that he needs that to further develop him into a starting center/forward. He will be playing more minutes this upcoming year and will eventually replace Ewing.

Now, doesn't logic suggest that if you make...lets say for the sake of argument...42 million over the next...x amount of years, you should try your best to attend one of these camps to improve yourself?

What's Bill Walton doing there. I thought he retired. Kareem is not going to waste his time teaching anything to Walton.

Please if Cato attends, keep him away from that redheaded dork.

Damn 300 posts!!!! yeah baby! watch out heypartner, dreamer, jeff, cabby here i come.

Camby's already 26. I don't think he's ever going to fill out enough to be a center, much less do it in one off-season.

I think Camby is an adequate center but plays a lot better at the pf spot.

I guess Cato can also work on his game while attending summer school. Remember Jamison went back to school last summer, and he blew up this past season.

I think CD and Hakeem are good enough help for Cato. You don't need to go out and get all these other bums like they're doing for Camby.

Hey, I got my university degree and with some quick mathematics I've figured out that I will have to live to be 217 years old to earn $42 Million.

I know where my priorities are. Dr. Cato, I presume?

I remember that Cato said that he will be working with Hakeem this summer. It was on one of those things where you ask a player questions, and he responds.

I dunno how recent this thing was though, so maybe Cato did not know of Hakeem's travel plans at the time...

I disagree. If Hakeem wants to be a contributing part of this team he sure as hell needs to practice just as much as everyone else, if not harder to set an example!!

Anyway, I remember Shawn Bradley a few years ago hired Lee Haney, the 8 time Mr. Olympia, to help him bulk up and get in better shape. I guess some people really can't change their body type!

Why is that there is a prevailing thought that Big Men come here and: "Carrol and Hakeem whip them into shape" or "Accentuate their game"?

Short of a nice game brought about by one player (Othella) not one Big man has been drafted by Houston or traded to Houston and been a greater force due to Hakeems and Carrol's teachings.

What big man with Cato's potential has been here in Houston and needed Hakeem and CD's teachings?

    Kevin Willis played good here.

    Mark Bryant played good here.

    OT played good here.

    Charles Jones played here.

So tell me, other than Othella, what other young stud have CD and Hakeem had a chance to teach?

Kelvin needs to do something...at least show some token desire. Granted I think given his previous lack of playing time he made a large improvement, and he had some really big games. That being said...he has no post game and needs to practice. CD, or Big man camp......I don't care I want improvement

It is true, but it was Carlos Rogers who asked Hakeem for help, and Hakeem told him he was going to Africa, then to Mecca.

Hakeem, if healthy does not need to practice much.

If not, well that is another story.

"So tell me, other than Othella, what other young stud have CD and Hakeem had a chance to teach?"

Wouldn't this sort of logic work the other way as well? True, there hasn't been much for Dawson and Hakeem to develop, but that just means that their ability to draw out a players potential is unknown. Unknown, therefore IMO, unreliable.

Austin Croshere has really developed into a nice PF, so does anyone assume that he's grown into what he currently is because of the tutelage of Rik Smits or Dale Davis? Please! You may try to give Bird some credit, but Croshere has a lot of heart and I suspect that he would have developed like this somewhere else.

Bottom line: Cato needs to get his butt in gear. I am glad to see that Kelvin is still working towards his degree, but this is not the offseason to be spent hanging out on campus, taking classes, and hitting on co-eds. When you were in school, some summers you took summer school while other summers you worked an internship or a co-op. Why? To improve your work experience and improve your marketability after graduation. That's what Cato needs to do. He needs to focus like he's probably never focused before on getting better at his job.
