Do you give up 2010 first round pick to complete NY deal?

?

You choice?

  1. Not giving up a potential lottery pick. Keep McGrady.

  2. If that's what it takes, trade him. Jordan Hill was a lottery pick anyway.

It looks like the Knicks have decided to play hardball and insist on the Rockets giving up their first round pick in return for Jordan Hill.

    The trade is:

    Houston Gets:

    Jeffries (6.9 million next year)
    Harrington/Hughes (expiring)
    Jordan Hill
    2012 Knick 1st round pick
right to swapp 2011 1st round pick
    2010 Knicks 2nd round pick
    get under luxury tax line

    NY Gets:
    McGrady
    Cook
    Dorsey
    Rockets 2010 first round pick
enough salary cap room this offseason to offer a second max contract

If the choice is holding on to McGrady or doing this deal, which do you take?

    No.

I want to keep that pick.

As much as I would love to make the playoffs, I think we will fall short and that pick will be very valuable.

Nah I probably wouldn't. McGrady, Cook, Dorsey and chance to sign or offer 2 max contract, and us taking on Jefferies, that should be good enough. If the Knicks are confident their other picks offered aren't going to be lotto picks and are confident they're gonna get 2 star players, no need for us to give up a first.

    No way.

There are too many good lottery guys this year.

I don't think we're gonna make the playoffs to be perfectly honest, and to "throw in" a pick that could translate into a Demarcus Cousins, Cole Aldrich, or an Evan Turner or John Wall for that matter (won't happen, but if we trade the pick, it would somehow find a way to happen), is just ludicrous.

It's still a good deal, though this is a disappointment. We can still make a couple more deals before Thursday PM.

If we give up a pick to get Hill, they keep Jeffries and give up another expiring instead.

I'm still not sure I'd even do THAT deal. Maybe if it's Lee, Hill + expirings...

A plain and simple no. This years pick is too valuable

I divide this into two trades:

    Trade 1
McGrady, Dorsey for expiring contracts and Hill

    Trade 2
take on Jefferies unwanted contract for a first round pick in 2012 (and the rights to swap a pick in 2011).

If we were also giving them a first round pick this year that nullifies getting their pick in 2012. So why exactly would we be taking on Jefferies contract? Just to have the option of switching picks with them next year?

    This is an easy NO.

Exactly. Only way I'm giving up our first round pick is if they're giving up Lee or Danillo.

I wouldn't, but then again I don't like any of the names the Knicks are giving. Jordan Hill to me would be the most potential. Top ten pick, who knows, could develop into a very good player. If a deal like this does go down though, a bit of a reuniting.

The most I'd do is trade them our second to move up in the second round. No way I'd give up a DM lottery pick for Hill.

Can we even trade our pick? Didn't we trade our 2009 pick already?

Only if they add David Lee instead of Harrington to the deal.

    Houston:

    David Lee
    Jordan Hill
    Jared Jeffries
    2011 Knicks 1st round pick
    2012 Knicks 1st round pick

    Knicks:

    Tracy McGrady
    Brian Cook
    Joey Dorsey
    2010 Houston 1st round pick
    2011 Houston 1st round pick

With Lee, Jeffries and Hill coming up we'll easily make the playoffs this year and they can get a late 1st rounder this season.

So many people not understanding how this works.

The only thing you're not allowed to do is trade two consecutive future first round picks. You can trade your upcoming first round pick each and every year if you want. You just can't trade two in a row in one season.
