The Cavaliers reportedly have a deal in place for Troy Murphy, should they fail to land Amare Stoudemire.

The Pacers have agreed to take back Zydrunas Ilgauskas and J.J. Hickson, the same package they are dangling for Amare. There is still chatter about Antawn Jamison being traded, and the bottom line is that Cleveland will have a new PF before the Feb. 18 deadline. If you own Anderson Varejao, start scrambling.

I don't get why the Cavs would give up JJ Hickson for Troy Murphy. Indiana has everything to gain by losing Murphy and the Cavs have to throw in sweetener?

Doubt that would be the deal if it happens. I think Z alone would net Murphy.

So Troy Murphy has the same value as Amare Stoudemire?

Cavs to trade for Stoudemire, Murphy, Jamison, or Maggette. Think they got their fallback options? ;)

Amare's value is low since he has a player option for next year that scares off a lot of suiters, nobody wants to give up assets to rent a player for half a season. Add that on top of his ridiculous extension demands (3 years 60 million lol) and you have a player that's not that desirable.

A good deal for Cleveland. Big Z will likely get bought out, then resign with the Cavaliers in time for the playoffs. During the month off, he'll get to rest and be fresh for the playoff run. So, it'll be essentially Hickson for Troy Murphy. And if you think that's remotely fair, then you haven't watched either play. Hickson is a poor man's Carl Landry. Similarly undersized, pretty athletic, but not as skilled in the low and high post. He's averaged 7.6 points off of dunks pretty much.

What Murphy brings to the table is a double double player with 3 point range. Sure, it might mess with chemistry first. But, this has been Cleveland's identity since they acquired Shaq: Start off the game by feeding the ball into Shaq. Try to get the other team into early foul trouble. Once Shaq goes for a breather, it's Lebron and Big Z pick and roll time.

And the reason why Murphy is conducive to Cleveland's identity is because he spaces out the floor for Shaq to operate in the paint. Also, Murphy can take over Big Z's role and run Pick n Pop game with Lebron as the Cavs await Big Z to be bought out and the temporary hiatus period prior to resigning back with the team.

The move hurts them financially I think. But, in the short run for a run at the championship, every owner not named Donald Sterling would pay that price if it meant securing a championship in the near future.

The Cavs are looking at anyone that will get them a championship this season, which will in all likelyhood also get them LBJ long term. That's the ultimate WIN NOW mode!

Wojo: Cavs talks with Wash for Antawn Jamison have intensified today, sources say. Cleve needed to relent on some pieces for possible deal there.

Jamison needs to be their focus, and they need to whatever they can to get him. He is a do everything player that is perfectly content taking a back seat to LeBron and Shaq.

Troy Murphy has a killer contract and plays like Landry with a bit more range: no defense, and whatever rebounding he has is negated by inability to bang with the big boys. More importantly he's made out of tissue paper, and almost all newsbites I read of him are composed of injury reports. He's certainly not an upgrade over side show bob, and that's saying something. If Cleveland can't get Antawn it'll probably be better for them to just stay put. With their expirings they should get some good personnel to play with the King, rather than betting it all on this season then having LBJ leave afterwards.

When he was with GS a reporter brought up how in one particular game he had to pad some kind of stat for a contract bonus to kick in. It just so happened to get that stat he also had the opportunity to do something else that would've won the game for the Warriors. Instead he chose what got him his contract bonus.

That's not really all that surprising. I remember Ricky D intentionally missed and got a reb at his own team's basket to get his first Triple D.

We need athletes, T-mac is done here in Houston. Trade him and get some real athletes in return. Watching that game last night against Utah reminded me how limited the rockets are when it comes to finishing at the basket. ONLY Ariza is capable of Dunking the basketball and Laundry being the other but when he's well defended ( fronted ) the guy can't do anything and most of his dunk attempts get blocked. I love Scola though he can't dunk either, this guy finds ways to score. If it takes Laundry, Cook and T-Mac to get an Amare and Barbosa and some combination of lottery picks go for it Morey but this team can no longer keep playing with slow, short, heavy on the feet players and expect to win... Hayes, Shane, Scola and Brooks 4 Starters playing below the Rim. Don't you wish we had never traded for Battier and just picked Rudy "SuperAthletic" Gay, this kid is only getting better..
