The Rockets already have, just not for any contract as big as Dampier's.

    Joey Dorsey's 2010-11 salary (~$947k) is non-guaranteed.

    Both Jermaine Taylor's and Chase Budinger's 2011-12 salaries (~$884k each) are non-guaranteed.

David Andersen's 2011-12 salary ($2,685,185) is partially guaranteed for only $185,185 (actually making him a nice trade asset in the summer of 2011).

One of the few downsides in Morey being able to acquire so much cheap talent is that there are no large contracts to make partially or non-guaranteed.

Trading is overrated IMO and everyone is overreacting because the rockets couldn't get them...I still don't see the Mavericks improving by much, let alone being a title contender with this trade...but thats just me

    Haywood / Dampier
    Nowitzki / Thomas / Najera
    Butler / Marion
    Terry / Carroll
    Kidd / JJ / Beaubois

that's a pretty deep lineup. they have players who can bang inside, versatile forwards, and guards who can shoot and create for others. not sure, but they might be the 2nd or the 3rd best team in the west as of now.

Man has there been good news this whole season?

Except when we beat the Pau-less Lakers and the Coach-less Cavs. Then got crushed by each afterwards.

No doubt the Mavs would improve by getting a tougher, more reliable smarter/savvier player with a nasty streak like Butler in place of an injury-prone, air-headed, unreliable flake like Josh Howard. Howard has basically been a piece of garbage this season. Adding Butler may not make the Mavs better than the Lakers, but it could elevate them pass the Nuggets and give them a legit shot at beating the Lakers in a 7-game series.

As they stand now, the Mavs just don't have enough and it seems like the players know it. They may not even wins 50 games with their current roster. This trade is just what the doctor ordered. Butler has nerves of steel and he would give Dirk some help down the stretch in close games instead of Dirk having to do it every single solitary game.

Stevenson is a good defender and would be valuable as a starter, which would allow Terry to come off the bench with Marion and Haywood.

This doesnt improve the Mavs. They still arent going win unless they get a low post presence.

...sucks. I really wanted Caron. Looks like we are sitting on Tmac's contract.

I'm still a little confused. Aren't all of those guys Dallas is sending to Washington in the last year of their deals? Is it possible Washington ends up with nothing in a few months?

that is the point, they don't want long contracts if they are just gonna continue to lose. They want to rebuild

Howard did very little for the Mavs this season, so I don't see how losing him would make them any worse. Time will only tell how much an affect this trade will have. Haywood is a nice defensive piece they needed at the C position and Butler provides a consistent scoring threat other than Dirk.

I don't know if it's enough to get them over the Lakers, but there is no denying this trade bring them closer to accomplishing it.

Josh Howard is not healthly. Because when he is he is a deadly scorer.

Now, is Butler an update over Howard? I don't think so. I'd put = between them.

Wow! This is simply amazing for the Mavs. Haywood and Butler and really good pieces, Haywood gives Dirk a real center instead of "2nd best center" soft man Dampier. Butler, of course, would be great because he can post down low. Dirk and Kidd should be ecstatic, having Butler, Haywood and Marion in the lineup gives them enough talent to go toe to toe with the Lakers.

He's not just injured, he's also a pothead and has a myriad of issues. Butler has a post game which JHo doesn't have, he just as good a defender, and he can rebound better as well. Definitely an upgrade IMHO

You have to look at what Howard has brought to the table THIS year. He was inconsistent all year, look at his game logs, there were plenty of games where he just didn't show up at all. Compare this to Butler's game logs, there is a vast difference, he's had huge games, plus he's brought it day in-day out. The Mavs have to win for the now, they can't wait for Howard to get his crap together. Howard might be equal to Butler in terms of skills, but one of them is providing a return while the other is not. So its a good deal for the Mavs, plus they also got Haywood, who is someone that will bring an ingredient they were missing, post defense. How can this not be a good deal?

    DONE DEAL

    http://voices.washingtonpost.com/wizardsinsider/2010/02/wizards-and-mavericks-agree-to.html

Butler, Haywood, Stevenson for Howard, Gooden, Ross & Singleton

Bottom line is Washington took on no salary but Ross (1.1 million) for 2010-2011 and took both Butler & Stevenson (15 mil) off next yrs books
Could pick up Howard's extension for next yr (10.8 mil).

Hopefully Philly decides to move Iggy or the longshot that Golden State just dumps everybody and Rox can pry some of their wasted talent (randolph, maggette, ellis, etc)

    Wrong section.

Sucks for us Rockets fans though, but only if Morey doesn't make a trade (which is looking more likely that he won't trade).
