Why don't you just download any free picture viewer... it's not hard.

Ya, I'm still running the RC7....

Also, I have a copy of Ultimate on my desk that I'll install if my I7 build parts make it here tomorrow....

Ya, I just checked again, it was loading it with IE. And with the picture viewer it isn't animated. never noticed, weird.

yeah it's not hard but you're missing the point.

why do we need to download a program for it now when it was available since windows 95?

Yup. The Slideshow feature is slow at coldstart, too.

That's what bothered me since day 1 I started to use Windows 7 Ultimate. The Windows Photo Viewer won't animate gif files as you stated, I was wondering that if any of updates that could mend this problem? It's Windows 7 man, that's gotta be a glitch in the system.

Don't really understand what the problem is. You can easily open it with Firefox, Chrome, or IE. Just set the GIF file to one of the default browser. Picasa doesn't play GIF file either. My ACDsee will play the GIF file. I think they did it on purpose since it's a photos viewer and not an animated viewer. That way if some people who use photos for their presentation doesn't run across some crazy ass GIF file that start morphing into something that's embarrassing.

    Ahh, it's a feature, not a bug.

It's not a glitch - it's a photo viewer (photo pics are usually not animated)... not a true image viewer. As far as I know, it didn't support it in Vista, either. Get something like irfanView if you want a good image viewer. That thing is awesome.

Yup Windows Picture and Fax Viewer in XP did. That program no longer exists as far as I know. The Photo Viewer has never supported it to my knowledge.

Is there anyway to bring in the XP photo/fax viewer to w7? It was instant, while this new viewer stutters half a second, even on my ssd.

Why would you want to do that? Just use the free irfanView.
