Report: Bin Laden alive, preparing attack

    Published 7/30/2002 5:44 AM

BEIRUT, Lebanon, July 30 (UPI) -- Osama bin Laden's al Qaida network will carry out a series of operations
in August and the suspected terrorist mastermind will appear in a taped recording soon after that, the
London-based Ash Sharq al-Awsat newspaper reported Tuesday.

Sources, who the newspaper said were close to bin Laden's supporters, told Ash Sharq al-Awsat al Qaida
had completed plans for its operation. Targets were not mentioned, however.

"Preparations are under way and what remains is only the execution," the sources said via e-mail.

They also said bin Laden was well.

"Sheikh bin Laden is alive and will appear in a videotape after carrying out this operation to confirm that he
is still alive and will continue fighting the United States," they said.

Bin Laden has been missing since the United States and its allies ousted Afghanistan's Taliban regime,
which gave al Qaida shelter in the country.

The sources said bin Laden would shed light on "the success of al Qaida in containing attacks launched by
the United States, on rebuilding and reorganizing its ranks ... and carrying out attacks in various countries
of the world against U.S. interests."

Ash-Sharq al-Awsat also referred to reports that al Qaida had been planning an attack on U.S. interests to
coincide with the first anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on New York and Washington.

On Monday, the Saudi newspaper said bin Laden's eldest son, Saad, had taken over as leader of al Qaida.

Feds Arrest Al Qaeda Suspects With Plans to Poison Water Supplies

WASHINGTON — Federal officials have arrested two Al Qaeda terror
suspects in the U.S. with documents in their possession
about how to poison the country's water supplies, Fox
    News has learned.

The first case involves James Ujaama, 36, who surrendered to the FBI last week in
Denver. Sources say they found documents about water poisoning among several
other terrorism-related documents in his Denver residence.

Sources say the government has additional evidence that prior to Sept. 11 James
Ujaama acted as a courier delivering laptop computers to the Taliban. Federal agents
seized two computers and two floppy disks from the house where James Ujaama had
been staying when he was arrested as a material witness to terrorist activity, his
    brother said.

James Ujaama's brother is Mustafa Ujaama, the founder of the now-closed
Dar-us-Salaam mosque in Seattle. The FBI has been investigating activities and officials
from the former mosque for several months.

Investigators believe officials and members of the mosque were trying to establish a
terrorist training camp in Bly, Ore., Fox News has confirmed. Investigators say there is
evidence that Mustafa Ujaama visited Bly to check it out as a possible facility location.

The Ujaama brothers are also known to have helped establish several Web sites for
    radical Islamic clerics worldwide.

Another former member of the mosque is also now in custody and suspected of
plotting terrorist attacks. His name is Semi Osman and he too is accused of having
documents about poisoning water supplies in his possession when he was arrested.

Sources say the Ujaama brothers and Osman are all tied to a prominent radical Muslim
cleric in London named Sheikh Abu Hamza Al-Masri. Al-Masri is a one-eyed mullah
who is often seen preaching at Finsbury Park's North London Central Mosque and is
wanted in Yemen on terrorism charges.

Investigators say they have evidence indicating that Al-Masri supplied the information
about poisoning water supplies to both James Ujaama and Semi Osman.

I will bet my family and my bank account that Bin Laden is dead.

There is nothing in this world that would discredit Bush and his administration more than a VHS tape of Bin Laden holding up this week's New York Times. Bin Laden would LOVE to tell the world how America failed to harm Al Queda, but he can't. He is dead.

I know you folks who love to discredit America want Bin Laden to be alive. You want to thumb your nose at "American aggression" and scoff at the last remaining superpower. Unfortunately, you will have to pick another battle. Bin Laden is worm food.

I agree tbagain. There's no reason for him not to show himself now, if he's alive.

who are you (tbagain) referring to when you say "you folks"??

I hope you're not referring to me! The last thing I want is for that b*stard to be alive! I'm just posting news stories I have found.

I've been out of the loop, so what makes you think Bin Laden is dead? I hope he is, but he seemed like a resilient guy.

Can it be Bin Laden wants to keep US guessing, which is strategically more costly to US than letting the world know he is definitely alive? Why wouldn't US government set the tone that he is most definitely worm food? BTW, don't tell your family that you bet them on a BBS ;)

Oops, sorry for that. I did not mean you personally, and I can see where my post left that impression.

I dont buy it. If Bin Laden was dead and the Bush administration could confirm it they would be shouting it from the highest mountain top. Bush could show the world how the USA stomped out the deadliest terrortist of our era. If he was dead I believe we would know it, since you cannot do anything in this world anymore without the press knowing about it 5 seconds after the fact. I wish and hope the guy is dead, but I sure wouldnt bet on it.

If he were dead, say by a bomb strike

it would be in al Qaida's best interest to hide his death, again *if he's dead*

that way the United States can't claim "victory"

If he isn't dead, I am curious to know why that newspaper is reporting that his eldest son has taken over Al Qaeda?!

    Interesting...

But as often as he'd been putting out video tapes earlier on in the war, and with the arrogance he displayed, why is he now silent?

As much as we all would hope, the guy is not stupid. A nutcase, yes. Stupid? no. If he comes out with a tape of himself right now, that just renews everyone's support for the war here in the US. Whatever little fading there might have been goes away - that just hurts him. If he stays private, and only does it after another disaster, he strengthens his own position. This is a power game for him, unfortunately, and he's probably going to try to taunt the US if he really is alive.

Is he dead? Hopefully. But the fact that he hasn't shown himself isn't an indication either way, in my opinion.

LOL, have you been living under a rock? There have been two tapes of Bin Laden released since the war , and they both look like fakes.

What nobody has seen is a tape of Bin Laden that proves he is alive.

I read either in CNN or MSNBC that we believe him to be dead b/c we are holding many of his bodygaurds captive. I'm not sure when the bodyguards were captured though.

If there is another massive attack, I would not advise going to the Middle East thereafter.

I recall a press conference late last year...

Rumsfeld: The President is committed to using the full resources of the military to fight terrorists.

Reporter: Has the President ruled out the use of nuclear weapons?

Rumsfeld: The President has ruled out nothing.

    This is really scary.

My side was picked from the beginning. I am an American through and through. Terrorists would be well advised to stay out of Texas, where we hand out weapons permits like party favors. If the chips fall, I'm ready to defend myself and my family.

For the record...if there is another major strike, I will then be in favor of unleashing the nukes.

If Bin Laden was weakened and not dead, he may not want to appear on tape and show everyone how sick, wounded, or weak he is...

Either way he's no longer as effective a terrorist leader as he was. He won't be able to have a govt. host him like the Taliban did, and thus his life is has been pretty much delegated to hiding and running... if he's still alive.

If we didn't already get Bin Laden, hopefully we will get him soon.

As far as using nukes, it makes no sense. Where do you drop the nukes? It's not a country that's attacking us but terrorist organizations spread around the world. Surgical strikes, informants, and targeted missions seems way more effective than dropping nukes.

Apparently they have a camp being established in Oregan. Should we nuke Oregan along with sixty other countries where the Al Qaeda has terrorist cells?

No offense but using nukes seems like poor tactics, poor diplomacy, immoral, and rotten strategy.

They know where the main strongholds of terrorist organizations are. They know which countries sponsor terrorism. If they did not then Bush and Rumsfeld would have taken nukes off the table. We know for a fact that Iraq has been paying the families of suicide bombers. The governement knows these things...they're just not tipping their hand. Bush is not going to do anything brazen. If he cannot identify those countries which harbor and sponsor terrorism, then not even grenade 1 will be thrown...much less a nuke.
