You have Gortat, who wanted a starting roll, which in my opinion think he deserve. He didn't necessarily decline Houston bc money (even though it probably was a little bit of the reason) but he didn't want to be behind yao next year.
Yeah, sorry, I didn't mean to phrase it in such a way as if it was his choice. Still, being in Orlando is very damaging to his and Bass' careers.
I don't think it matters if Morey would have over offered Gortat. Dallas signed him to MLE offer sheet, but the Magic matched the offer... they would've done the same thing with Morey's offer. Gortat made a good decision by signing with Dallas because Magic matched it anyways and if he signed with Houston for the $3-4 Million Morey offered, then he would have lost an opportunity at making a lot more money (around $5-6 million).
Gortat made alot of sense now and in the future for the rockets. Morey gets the people pumped by showing up with a jersey, but no money. Gortat wouldve given the rockets flexibility concerning Yao. If gortat played for the rockets this year, i think he would be a 13ppg 9 reb,2 blk kinda a guy. That kind of production would really allow them to bring yao back slowly and see where he's at in his career. If he struggles with injury again, he could be phased out and money could be redistributed elswhere. Timing is everything and getting the injury settlement late vs earlier cost the rockets gortat.
Um, not really. There is no way Houston would given more than the MLE to Gortat, and given that Orlando matched with Dallas, they would have done so with Houston. We weren't getting Gortat under really any circumstances in the end. < Good >
I don't understand the OP. In only 13 minutes a game, he's averaging 51% shooting, 4 rebounds, 3.4 points, and 1 block. Extrapolated out to 36 minutes that comes out to 11 rebounds, 9.4 points, and and 2.7 blocks a game on 51% shooting. Looks like MLE value to me.
No one's saying Gortat would not have been awesome to have this season... But at the MLE? That's the question.
He was going to sign with Dallas but since he was a restricted FA, Orlando matched the offer. So again he ended up behind Dwight in the line up. Not on purpose either.
yea man, you give a guy only 13min a game, what's he gonna produce?! try giving him 7min a game, that'll really show people what he can do
wow....worst post of all time? He took the magic to the final last season and right now has one of the best record in the league. Although his personality suck.
No kidding. In every sound bite, SVG literally screams into whatever mic is on him. I have to turn down my TV when he is talking, and then turn it back up when the interviewer finishes.
Done nothing with all that talent. Pat Riley should step in and show him how you use a big man. Deja vu. Its ok you dont understand me yet, im always way ahead in the future. My predicaments are gold.
maybe he is not playing enough minutes, plus if he is averaging those numbers on the magic squad it doesn't mean that he was gonna be averaging the same numbers here, plus if he was here he would at least get 25+ min not 13-14 min.
The Bass signing now looks like a large blunder. He's the only big-bodied PF on the roster so it probably seemed like a no-brainer to the Magic that Bass would crack the rotation and contribute. But they've played smaller lineups with Mickael Pietrus & Matt Barnes and even JJ Redick & Jason Williams snag minutes ahead of Bass. I've heard people here say he and Howard don't play well together but I haven't seen enough of Bass to even have an opinion. There are two reasons the Magic matched and kept Gortat: (1) As trade bait and (2) to have him on the roster against the Lakers' twin towers. As trade assets, both Gortat and Bass are now worth very little. The Magic might dump one or both guys this summer and try to acquire a big man that can actually crack their rotation for 20+ mins/game.
btw, i'd love to have bass here, he can play and he's physical. we just happen to have a similar player in landry.
