Understood. Though I didnt try to make it like there's some league propoganda machine involved in it. Just that the fan's decisions and league's decisions arent as drastically far apart in credibility as they might appear.

Fans for their own purpose want a hometown choice a certain year.
League for their own purpose wants a hometown a certain year. But its like the fans are "idiots" and the league "knows better". I'm just asking how far apart are those 2 approaches really.

My initial reaction is that I don't care, the AS game is a joke and making the AS team has no effect on the success of the Rockets season.

Then I realized the effect of being passed over has on Brooks or Landry. These guys are not locks to be on the team next year, they are not merely waiting their turn. They are in consideration for such a spot because of unique circumstances (injuries to top players, successful record, individual achievements) that may not be repeatable. In other words, this might be their best chance of making the AS game.

Think about the difference of being able to say,"I'm an NBA all star" vs. "I'm an NBA player". That is a significant honor for Brooks or Landry when their career is done. To rob them of this title in favor of a washed up has been that doesn't deserve it and doesn't need it for his legacy is just appalling.

Yeah, Kidd's is having one of his best all-around seasons, but he's also asked to do far less than he ever has before.

I know that if you put Kidd on the Rockets we would be significantly worse. Kidd is a facilitator, whereas Brooks is an offensive/scoring centerpiece. He averages 10 points more per game, which makes Kidd's leading by .4 in block and .4 less turnovers completely insignificant.

As for FG% Kidd pretty much has the luxury of only shooting wide open threes when team's double up on Dirk, so using that to imply Kidd is a better shooter is disengenous. Brooks absolutely destroys Kidd in any part of the game that involves putting the ball in the basket. He's also significantly better at losing his man.

Another big stat is that Brooks gets to the free throw line 4 times more than Kidd, which really demonstrates how little Kidd even bothers to wander inside the three point line nowadays. 62% of his field goals are 3-pointers, whereas with Brooks only 39% of his field goals are threes.

With Kidd being required to do so little, I have a tough time saying he's better than Brooks. He has one of the easiest jobs in the league right now. Brooks on the other hand is a sub-six-foot offensive centerpiece on an under-manned team who has a mid-season record above 500. He's much more valuable to the Rockets than Kidd is to the Mavs.

I do think that Kidd's strong assist and rebound numbers make it difficult though.

I almost fell over in my chair! LAWL!!!

Too much crying on this page.....too much homerism.

Look, another thing you all didnt look at was the fact that Jason isnt required to do as much on the ponies surrounded by other players that can score more willingly.

The only problem is they are not robbed. There are more deserving players out there, AB/Landry are not all star yet.

Kidd plays 36 min/g for the home team, there's a good chance he's eventually headed to the HOF, and he's still pretty productive (amongst the leaders in assists and steals, and he's having his most efficient season in his career). I don't have a problem with it, considering they were looking for a guard and none of the other candidates jump out as clearly more worthy.

I think Ellis deserves it over Kidd. He's having such a great season.

Booooo. If the game is played anywhere else but Dallas, AB is definitely in. A shame too because this might be the only year he ever gets a shot. Not to say that he won't have a wonderful, successful career, but how many more chances will he get to be the focal point of an offense? Let's be honest, he wouldn't be averaging as many points if he were playing with better offensive players than Hayes, Battier, and Ariza.
