Both are excellent cases for my point. Both KG and Gasol moved on to new teams in much reduced roles. That was when they had success. Neither guy could be the workhorse. If you bring in Butler and he is happy to be a team guy and average 10 or 12 ppg, you probably have a good outcome. If you pound the ball to him for 15 or 20 per game, you are going to be average at best. Someone made a point about the Pistons teams. You know what made those Pistons winners? It had nothing to do with who they added. They traded away Adrian Dantley (a scoring champion) who had a Barkley-esque ability to kill the flow of an offense and was never a winner. Professional flake Mark Aguirre who replaced him had very little to do with the success of that team. Butler is fine as part of a orchestra. But he isn't the soloist that I keep reading about. Again, it is probably more an issue with the fan-boys who gush about what a stud player he will be more than an actual critique of the trade. The same effect was present when people gushed about T-Mac "replacement" Trevor Ariza this summer.
Tmac's contract isn't going to land Rox a high lottery pick unless Morey takes back ugly contracts. And that is something Morey won't do unless it's the sure #1 overall pick.
Exactly. Nobody should count on Butler coming in and being a legit #2 guy next to Yao. We're still going to have work to do after this, clearly...just like we knew after we signed Ariza. Both are role players and shouldn't be top scoring options, but in the right mix they can both flourish (though I'm starting to doubt Ariza without the triangle offense). At the risk of repeating myself and sounding like DD, Butler and Battier would be valuable assets/expiring contracts to package and try to get that 2nd star we need in the offseason or at the next trade deadline. Maybe we trade one of them, Landry, and our pick for a promising top 5 pick? Something like that. I think it's been so long since we've turned to the draft for a star that we forgot that is an option.
I should probably answer this tomorrow but I for one didn't gush... I looked at it like... ok.. trevor ariza. Woop-ti-do we're almost at a rebuilding period with tmac out and yao out for the year after. I'm sure the majority thought the same. Ok we got ariza your first thought.. he is younger than Artest. Is he productive in a smaller role yes. What did we get him for? Someone to replace Battier when he is no longer able to wave his hand in front of Kobe's face. Yes a role player anything more is a plus. I personally was wondering why we didn't go after an athletic SG. Dahntay Jones maybe. Why must you bash someone who is trying to support Morey? Where are these fan boys anyways?? With that said the Rockets need as much offensive help as possible. Turn a negative into a positive. It's as simple as that. A scorer in Butler for someone who won't be seen in a Rocket's uniform. You're probably going to come back and kick my as$ but.. What do you think the Rocket's should do? Who says we're planning to pounding the ball to him when Yao gets back? Have you seen the Rockets at all this season? What kind of scoring output will we have if we keep this up? Lottery Team? How do we get the number two you are suggesting? He definitely is not a number 2 he can be a piece.
id like to get jokim noaha...if we could somehow make that work...if not the next best thing sounds like the butler/haywood deal..only if we dont have to give up anyone but tmac...i dont wanna break up anyone from our core,,without recieving a superstar...ariza needs a playmaker to feed off of..maybe butler will help that out..we have to keep brooks/landry/bud...nomatter what...they are the future,,everyone else could be dealt for upgrades imo...besides yao..
Meh, at the rate were building brick houses, I think the concept of "team chemistry" is overrated right now.
if we let mcgrady expire,..do you think we could make a run at joe johnson this summer?..maybe snag a ronnie brewer also?..
I think one of our point guards is going to be packaged with T-mac. Either way, our bench will be #1 again.
I dont think we have enough capspace to sign joe johnson unless we someone pull out a s&t? I'd love Brewer, but with Ariza + Battier + Budinger, do we still need a wing player?
