Or maybe the organization is trying to show Dorsey he is an integral part of this team. Delegate responsibilities to him, he discovers self-worth and shakes off that "lack of drive" issue
Of course Les/Morey would send the most inexperienced player on the team... Remember they are for the Owners side not the players.. Big heated battle between the Owners and Union.. Owners are wanting to lessen the amount of money and years given out to max player!!
Suppose he goes there and doesn't report proper information back to the team, I'm pretty sure the league will send out a e-mail to all the team executives telling them what was said/decided at the meeting? The information being passed around on doesn't depend on that one individual who is sent.
I think Dorsey is the only one on the team who can intimidate with his size, so he's going to 'negotiate'.
So when you guys say "the Rockets" sent him... that makes it sound like Les, or someone in the higher ups decided who goes. Who exactly decides who goes? The players or the Organization? Either way I would have no problem if the players take a pay cut. It's ridiculous how much some of them are making that are borderline role players, skill-wise.
You don't have to buy it, but i can tell you guys really don't care as much as they should. They would rather play madden or call of duty vs talk about 401k and long term financial planning and you can take that one o the bank. Guys in the league live in the moment and don't worry about future stuff after basketball. You look at a team like the rockets and shane o yao should be the rep just as derek fisher is the president if i'm not mistaken. The info is brought back from meeting to the other players via union rep.
Not a 100% on any of this, but isn't Dorsey going to just be there representing the Rockets while someone else actually argues and discusses the what the NBA player union as whole wants? It's not as if the guy is being made lead negotiator, he is just there to show face and if the Rockets had any legit concerns, they will hand him papers to give to the overall union reps or send it in themselves.
Use your common sense. It will help you avoid making mistakes like assuming guys like Shane Battier, Chuck Hayes and Yao Ming don't care about their future or the future of the player's union and would prefer to play Madden.
I'd be afraid our boy Yao would take it too seriously. Get all depressed. Run a "I let da team down"-themed press conference. We'd have to bring in Hakeem and Deke to cheer him back up. Upside: Hakeem & Deke & Yao subsequently all star together in a new C&D Scrap Metal commercial !!
Ha Ha . This is obviously the Rox attempt to have no part of anything that could hamper progress of the league. You put Battier in there and he'll debate every point to where it would take forever to get anything done. With Dorsey, you just hope no one hears him snoring at the meetings.
