The football focus is nutty. They talk college football recruiting during the NBA playoffs. Oh yeah, an hour of high school recruiting talk - that's good radio. I think they rely too much on guest "experts" in general. They could break down and analize a game, this move over that move, this play, etc etc, but they'd rather chat with John Mclain about his airplane ride, or Charlie Casserly about the food in Kansas City, or John Hadley about his moustache, or the Arlan Sports guy about the college football recruit who likes puppies. How about after game 6 and 7 WCF - what do you think they talked about? Yes, Big news - Texans signings.

    Blah.

The best show on 610 is john and lance in the morning they are a very entertaining duo. I could see those two someday being on national radio.

I'm not talking about Dalati the host, but Dalati the reporter. As a host, he's ok. As a reporter, he's very good.

    You got the times wrong...

    6:30-9am - Lance & John
    9am-11am - Mark Vandermeer (Texans play-by-play guy)
11am-2pm - Jim Rome (national feed)
2pm-4pm - Dan Patrick Show (national feed)
    4pm-8pm - Rich and Charlie
    8pm-midnight - Matt Jackson

By the way, the weekends will soon improve. I believe that this weekend is their last with Sporting News Radio. If I am not mistaken, they move to all ESPN starting next week/weekend.

I have to say I've found Mark Vandermeer more than willing to talk Rockets, with a reasonably informed and interested tone. Of course, things are pretty dead now, and he's alone in the booth filling an hour. He needs that interplay with Jeremy right now - the calls don't help carry the load. Hence, topics like, top draft bust OR top 50 tv shows. Summer fun.

Once again you and I are on the same damn road! Rich and Charlie are old farts that are about as negative as they come. They are knowledgeable about sports, but lets just say that basketball isn't their best subject. The morning show blows! (In my opinion) John only knows Astro's baseball and God help your soul if you say anything negative about them. He is so in love with the fact that he knows Bags and Craig that it's make me sick. Lance is good enough to stomach, but nothing to boast on. The only person I like is Matt Jackson and that's because he knows how to be logical. All in all, 610 needs some competition on it's heels. Maybe that will inspire them to be better at their jobs because they suck to me. That's just my opinion!

As long as you can find that nitwit Peter Brown on the radio on 610 on the weekends, Charlie Palillo will still only be the 2nd biggest idiot in all of sports talk radio. The guy may have a lot of sports facts stored in his brain, but that does not make him sports smart. He has no instinct for the city of Houston, no desire to see the home teams do well, and goes out of his way to be rude, negative, and to interrupt callers after they have only said about 3 words of their call. Worse, he think he's clever and funny, but unfortunately there might possibly be nobody one the planet less clever or funny than him. I do thank him for one thing though - he has helped me remember that my car has a CD player and an FM radio in it for when I am driving in the afternoons. When those two guys finally figure out that no one here gives a rat's you-know-what about the Yankees and the hockey teams from the northeast, then maybe they will start to have a sports radio talk show that is actually listenable in Houston TEXAS.

Who hired those clowns anyway? Sheesh.

    A couple things:

    (1) Matt Jackson is 8 - 10pm, not midnight. Could anyone be more incessantly negative about the Rox than him? :)

    (2) I would expect some subtle changes as we get closer to Rockets season. A post-postgame call in show is almost a certainty, as is a Rudy T. coaches show (probably Thursday evenings).

    (3) When baseball season is over, I like Sportsbeat on 740 (7-10pm). Kenny Hand and Carl Dukes are a good team.

Since we have gone from providing info to also spouting opinions, here's mine:

Jim Rome is the WORST personality in the media   !! The guy is a sexist, misogynistic, jock-riding egomaniac!! Give me someone like Dan Patrick every time!! All Rome does is insult his listeners. Imagine being called a "clone" and enjoying it ??? The only thing he does well IMHO is interviews. He demonstrates insight, imagination, and intelligence...until the interview is over and he goes back to being an insulting bore!!

Locally, John Granato apparently thinks as highly of himself as Rome does, and I agree with most of the statements about Charlie and Rich. ALL of these guys are in love with the sound of their own voices! As a P.R. guy who has had to deal with them and their producers, they think WAY TOO MUCH of themselves.

Locally, people like Kenny Hand (who comes from the print side), and Carl Dukes actually have some humility and compassion for the listeners !! (What a concept :) !!)

Your perceptions of Charlie are interesting. Actually, the guy is a BIG fan of the Rockets. He still has a picture of the sign in front of the Summit the day after the game 7 win over the Knicks. He goes to every game and knows quite a lot about the basics of the game. In fact, he is a big Comets fan as well and goes to nearly all their games too!

He is most definitely ascerbic. It is just his personality.

To be honest, Rich is much less of a Rockets fan than Charlie and does not know nearly as much about basketball.

The perceptions of them are valid because they are pretty harsh at times. But, Charlie is who he is. That is just his nature. He isn't a homer - he's not even from here. And the guy is a vault of sports info.

I happen to know both of them and they are good guys. They just get harsh on the radio at times.

That was a while ago, before and during the Rockets championship years. The local Dan Patrick used to own that station with a group of investors before they sold out to Clear Channel(?) I think. It's been off the air for quite a while. 610 is okay but sports talk used to be more competitive in Houston before the stations started getting bought out by larger companies that are now allowed to own multiple stations in one market.

There's also Danny Vere and Rob Costa 8-10 pm Sundays on 610, they have the best show ever since Matt Jackson went solo. It used to be Matt Jackson and Jeremy Foster. Danny and Rob bring "The Ladies Man" on quite often, I think his name is Chris Gardner or something. Anyways, he has a publication called The Houston Round-ball Review and knows a lot about the Rockets, the NBA, and basketball in general.

I forgot about that whole ESPN thing nearing...at least we don't have to hear the "Jimy of the Week" every Thursday.

Ok. I partook in one of those and nominated Dream! Sue me!

610 has its good days and bad days, but here's my view of it.

Morning show with Lance and John.
John is a complete moron, he contradicts himself just about every five minutes.
Lance, when he's not doing ridiculous impressions, has great insight on sports.

Mark Vandermeer is on for two hours after the morning show, he pretty much takes calls, lets the callers talk, and gives very little feedback.

Rome, speaks for himself, the best show on radio.

Dan Patrick show- sucks, they never talk about sports, he and Rob Dibble crack bad jokes and laugh amongst themselves most of the time.

Charlie and Rich- Charlie carries this show, he is a little arrogant, but has keen insight on sports and has great takes. He is always dogging the Rockets, and rides the jock of every championship team. Rich is a freakin' moron. He doesn't know jack about sports, hell I've probably forgotten more about sports than this guy knows. He contributes absolutely nothing to the show, his stupidiest line is,"You wish you were us", uh no moron, I'd like your job, but never in a million years would I want to be a slob like you.

Matt Jackson at night is pessimistic at times, but hell at least he doesn't sugar coat it. He isn't afraid to say things that will ruffle a couple of feathers. He gets a little off topic every now and then, but compared to the rest of the shows, he's decent.

I wish they would get Adam Wexler back, now that guy was hardcore sports.
