That's the point I am asking - because I do believe he has skills, and (particularly when motivated - a new contract seems motivation enough) can and will help a team this season. And longer.
Just his contract is worth something..other then that,nothing... He's not worth a back, shoulder,or knee, that's for dams sure
This is all: <a href="http://photobucket.com/images/bag%20of%20chips" target="_blank"><img src="http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h153/tedandalissa/chips.jpg" border="0" alt="bag of chips Pictures, Images and Photos"/></a>
Cute. He is a player with a storied history of scoring - and fouling his franchise in his latter days thereon. He has a valuable chip of a contract and remaining, if not elite, talent. McGrady has worth. Really. But, how much?
Xiki, The problem is that his contract makes any discussion you are trying to make moot. The contract makes him only worth an expiring contract. In the summer he might be worth a MLE sized deal...MIGHT. DD
I see the team at worst, stock pilling and saving for the future like 2012-2013 season. Dont think i can live with that either. If Haywood pops up in articles you know things don't sound too good.
I disagree with both of you. I suspect his career is, at the least, near over and that he'll never be a force in the league again. However, he still has star power. Teams can still trade for him and sell their casual fans on the idea that the cap space is the worst case scenario and that they actually hope to see McGrady return to form. Judging by the number of votes he received for the all-star game and how many fervent t-mac fan boys there are on this site, McGrady's star power is still very real and that is a commodity. Do I think it's worth a whole lot? Not really. But it's something.

Completely disagree with you. Even IF McGrady was able to play right from pre-season, then that would have barely added to his trade value anyway. All it would've done is said to people 'get your chance to acquire a former star for half a season' - no guarantees that he wouldn't walk at the end of it. So, in the end, ALL it would've done is enable Morey to perhaps break up one big expiring into several smaller ones. That's an option that Morey seems to have already been offered - but makes no sense, since it would involve ditching current contracts to do so anyhow. I fail to see how McGrady having any game at all would've added to his value? In the end he still expires, and which team wants to give up $23million worth of talent to get a player (however hypothetically good) who might just leave anyhow? The value is always in the expiring contract - and because McGrady acted like a baby, he didn't even get the chance to play. Now that's funny.
Honestly, it depends. Knicks could want him for his expiring contract, but they would also love to use his skill set to lead them to the playoffs in a weak conference. They can also use him to attract more players to come to NY. For example, say I am Amare, I would love to go to NY in a great system with McGrady at the 2 or 3 position who is a very willing passer. For Houston, it's all about the contract this year. We would obviously love to make a run in the free agency class following the season. It just depends on which team it is.
I actually personally don't think his worth anything. Its like that contract that the the Blazers had, Lafrantz. Didn't get anything for that contract in the end
Chris Broussard: Houston is now currently weighing whether to trade Tracy McGrady or let him expire and be a player in the free agency market. If Houston renounces the rights to Kyle Lowry and Chuck Hayes, they can offer a max contract. From Coast to Coast just about 10 minutes ago. Not word for word.
