Up late? Shuttle is about to launch - probably wont due to weather concerns though. Night launches are rad. <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" width="480" height="586" id="utv579744"><param name="flashvars" value="autoplay=false&brand=embed&cid=114136"/><param name="bgcolor" value="#000000"/><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"/><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"/><param name="movie" value="http://www.ustream.tv/flash/mediastream/114136"/><embed flashvars="autoplay=false&brand=embed&cid=114136" width="480" height="586" bgcolor="#000000" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" id="utv579744" name="utv_n_206146" src="http://www.ustream.tv/flash/mediastream/114136" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" /></object><a href="http://www.ustream.tv/" style="padding: 2px 0px 4px; width: 400px; background: #ffffff; display: block; color: #000000; font-weight: normal; font-size: 10px; text-decoration: underline; text-align: center;" target="_blank">Online video chat by Ustream</a>
I saw one of these live at cape canaveral for spring break 08! Shame they had bad weather tonight. These really are awesome to watch... like a fireball rising into the sky, and it lights up the area to at least half as bright as the sun. [/ slight embellishment] I would definitely do this again
I'm in Florida right now just to see the launch, so I was really disappointed when they scrubbed it last night. We had to take a 1.5 hour bus ride to get there, then wait 2.5 hours for launch only to have it canceled 9 minutes before go. Not to mention there's a 2 hour bus ride back to the hotel. Now we get to do it all again tonight. Unfortunately, the same weather obstacles from last night seem to be present again. Looks like a toss up.
Watching this reminded me of Space Shuttle Columbia.... damn what a tragedy that was... but thanks for the link to the launch, watched it early in the morning around 3.
This isn't my camera, but it's from the same viewing area where I was and essentially represents my exact viewpoint of the launch. Although it doesn't track the shuttle very well as it goes up, it's one of the only videos I've found that even begins to accurately represent the sound and feel. It hits you at 0:45 and remember, that's from 4 miles away. You can also hear a car alarm going off toward the end  <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Gg9JrtancNM&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Gg9JrtancNM&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
nice video, thanks for posting it. Couldn't stay away to watch it live. Too bad the video didn't follow the ship going up. Amazing how it lite up the sky so bright, looked like daylight.
Whole bunch of different views in 1 video. <object width="640" height="505"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/uFM-FSVjXDc&hl=en_US&fs=1&hd=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/uFM-FSVjXDc&hl=en_US&fs=1&hd=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="505"></embed></object>
